Enjoyed what you had to say about your Beretta Centurion. I have an Italian made, civilian 96 Centurion I purchased from a friend in 1994, a few months after he bought it new. He was experiencing temporary money issues at the time and I told him I would sell it back to him if things changed for him. Things did improve for him but I'm grateful to say he didn't take me up on my offer. 26 years later, we are still great friends and I still have this wonderful gun.

That's great that you held on to the gun for all those years.. I really like mine too, and I get comments on how good looking it is whenever I bring it to the public range..

I agree with your habit of not dropping the slide on an empty chamber. Bill Wilson and Ken Hackathorn would be pleased!

Glad I found your channel. I just subscribed. I acquired a 1993 Centurion a few years ago. I believe it might be a civilian model because I don't see any markings that you mentioned in the review. It came with 10 rd. magazines and I have obtained a couple of 11 rd. mags since I originally bought the pistol.

Thanks for the sub and congrats on finding one of these nice guns. I did the same thing with my .40 Centurion getting the 11 round mags, especially the ones from around that time, 1994-2004 with the "For Government Use Only" markings on them, pretty cool.

I had a Beretta Centurian and I traded in for a Springfield XD 40cal. BIG MISTAKE! I should have kept that Centurian because it was a great gun 🔫 🙂 👍 👌 🙃. All I did was put Hogue grips on it and it was great to shoot.

XD's are nice too, I've had many and actually like the triggers, so smooth and light, and handle the recoil of the 40 very well. Yeah the Berettas are great, they just feel different on recoil impulse with the slide / lockup mechanics.. the Centurions still show up, great guns.

I have a 90s 92 Centurion. 9mm DA/SA still in the box. Its a shame I haven't shot it much. I took it to the range and forgot how nice it shoots.

Yes, so fun to shoot, it feels diff from other autos. Congrats on having this configuration. It took me about 20 yrs to find one.. I've seen about 50 DA .40 centurions ex police ones.. and have owned many DA/SA .40 centurions, and lots of 9mm 92 Compacts, but I never found the DA/SA Centurion 9mm until last year found one 100 miles from home in a local gun shop. It's from the 90's as well, I made a video of it here on my channel.

I just got one of these. My first beretta was a full size 96. Went to the 92 after the 1994 AWB ended. Sold the 96 to a friend who needed a gun and preferred the .40. This my first centurion though. Forgot how much more stout the recoil is compared to the 92 lol. Lok thin grips. Langdon trigger bar, short reach trigger, and G conversion kit are on the way. Not sure what rear sight I want yet. Probably a Novak or an Aristocrat. They also have Mec Gar 13rd mags that fit flush now. These are all things that make the 96 a better pistol than when I originally had one. Thanks for making this video man. Glad you found one after parting with an earlier 96.

Your welcome... Sounds like a nice Beretta you're putting together. With the upgrades I'm assuming you put a new recoil spring.. which is a good idea. I bought a used stainless .40 96 and it actually stung the web of my hand when I fist shot it and realized it had a old recoil spring or someone put one in.. I put a new spring in it and it was so much better, i also had an extra power spring only a 1 or 2 lbs over stock whick worked better for the 40 since the springs are normally the same for 40 and 9.
@jodylivengood406110 ай бұрын
@ClassicGunReviews the came new in box condition. But not legally allowed to be sold that way. Someone just bought it and kept it in the safe. Which is one reason I'm willing to sink a little cash into it. But I like the chrome silicon recoil spring and what weight I drop from the hammer spring for that better DA pull I add to the recoil spring as well. So I never got the sting in my hand from that previous 96. Usually got that with. 357 revolvers. But it did have a lot of muzzle rise and really torqued to the right. I thought it was because I was amateur but my gunsmith who is really good with powerful handguns, shoots silhouette alot, tried it and had the same issue. .40 is a strange cartridge. At first it's advertised as the solution to .45 low mag capacity and 9mm failures. AWB ends and for about 5 years after that people still got .40. For the most part it delivered on promises. I knew several police officers who were maybe not a fan of the .40 but trusted it. Compared favorably with .357. In statistics. Then for some reason everyone decided that .40 isn't cool anymore. I thought .357 sig was maybe the reason. But it's hated more than. .40 now. Then there became more 10mm pistols. But .40 people aren't going to that. I love 9mm, but I think that the movement to say .40 has no place is not a very well thought out move. Because it's being said by people who know a great amount on this subject. 9mm is usually more than adequate for self defense. I had a glock 23 2ndGen. That gun sucked to shoot it would sting the web of my hand. I switched to a Walther P99AS. They discontinued the .40 by the time I got one. But I mainly like the gun more and that's why. Someone called me Fuddy Buddy because I showed him my new Beretta. So maybe I'm just old and trying to justify .40 because that's what you do when you're old I guess.

Shield with a P in it on the trigger guard is the American proof mark. Not police special. PS Shielded marked slides like the original location you pointed out were police issue and sold to police and came with 3 mags, but were also sold to the public. The only way to know if it's police issue is that it has a badge number or department markings. I've seen 96 centurions that say BCSO on them engraved over the finish. For Brevard County Sheriffs office.

Hi.. thanks for the great info, I've had some Beretta 92's in the past that had the PS Shield marked slides I figured it was another form of that. Good to know it's a proof mark... I looked it up I guess it's the mark for passing the high pressure test. Thanks again for the comment and information.

Nice review. Could a police trade in 40 SW slide be used on a 92FS frame?

Are the slide and barrel compatible with the regular centurion frame, both bring the same caliber

I have one of those except it is a G model. It was a police issue also from back in the '90s. I have had the gun for probably 15 years or more. I wonder if the Centurion 92G is very rare? I am not sure if I would prefer it to have the decock/safety or not. If I travel with the gun in the car I do not normally have a round in the chamber anyhow. I do appreciate that it at least has the de-cocker. BTW, this is a very nice video and very informative. Thank you for posting it.

Thank you! I appreciate the comment. Through the years the Centurions I see the most of are DAO in .40, next would be the DA/SA in 40, after that 9mm in DA/SA. I don't think I"ve ever seen a G model centurion because they were special order for certain police departments so I think they are pretty rare! In 2002 or so my EDC was a Beretta 92 compact G model, those are hard to find too.. all great guns!

I too have a 92G Centurian :) I love the safety delete because the safetey/decocker is slide mounted. The fact that it always springs back up means even if I grab the decocker when reloading it's still ready to fire.

Classic Gun Reviews I own a Centurion 96G .40cal. Made in 1999 and inherited from my father upon his death. It was work-issued for him and lightly used (if much at all) as his department went back to Glocks. I like the Beretta a little better.

Where is the best place to buy parts for these?
@ClassicGunReviews3 ай бұрын
It uses standard Beretta 92FS parts so best places are ebay, Beretta website, Midwest Gun works.. specialty parts or upgrade parts can be found at Midwest Gun Works, Langdon tactical, Wilson Combat.

It took me almost seven years of scouring the auction sites, frequenting local, and not so local, to find the centurion I was able to get again. The double single isn’t exactly simple to get ahold of. Great review, but question. Have you tried the hogue rap around grip? It’ll change your life 😂probably not, but it’s a hugely different and better feel that the plastic they outfitted these with.

Congrats on finding one! As I mentioned in the video, I worked in 4 gun stores and was manager of one of the, plus I lived near what I think is the largest gun store in the US and I never saw one there in 10 yrs! Only the full size, and tons of Centurion DAO in 40, sometimes DA/SA in 40 and I owned about 4 of those.. I couldn't believe it when I walked into my fav pawn shop/gun store to buy silver and that was sitting there. I like the pachmyer and Hogue grips on revolvers but not autos.. I try to go for the slimmest grip possible since the grips I just right size for me for my large hands. I really want the Wilson Ultra slim grips for it but I can't find them cheaper than $82 so haven't pulled the trigger on one. The factory plastics are slim enough but a little slippery. The Hogue Piranha grips are great, I've had those. Some are a little too aggressive though. Luckily the Centurion in this video came with almost all steel parts before they switched to plastic for the trigger, safety, guide rod, and main spring cup/lanyard ring. Only the trigger was plastic coated steel on this one so I found one and installed it. Also the main spring housing is aluminum like the older ones. Mine was a police issue one, it has the shield on the trigger guard and when I put the serial number in on the Beretta website the details showed the manuf date of 97 and that it's police issue because from 94 - 2004 the mag ban was in place and this was shipped with 2 x 15 round magazines so it went to the police. If you haven't put your serial number lookup try it it's fun to see the configuration your gun was when shipped. cheers
