The Beretta Tomcat 30X in 32 ACP is an upgraded version of the original 3032 Tomcat with a lot of needed changes. Soft to shoot and no rack, tip-up barrel loading makes this a great choice for those with weaker hand strength. Thanks to Beretta USA for providing the Tomcat 30X for this review. ‪@berettavideos‬ ‪@BerettaCommunity‬

Love Beretta. It's STILL privately owned! The inaugural product in 1526 was the arquebus barrel; by all accounts Beretta-made barrels equipped the Venetian fleet at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. Beretta has supplied weapons for every major European war since 1650.

The tip-up barrel loading system is a game-changer, especially for those of us who value ease of use and reliability in our firearms. Plus, the soft shooting experience is a dream. Beretta continues to impress with their innovations in the handgun market.

I own several Berettas. (Bobcats, Cheetahs, etc.) Consider that even with the tip-up system if you don't have the grip strength to rack the slide you may not be able to quickly clear a malfunction or reload the gun in a hurry. Hopefully these don't crack like the 3032 model. It appears they smoothed the rear of the slide. The previous version would cut you easily if your hand went too high. The recoil "bars" are NOT leaf springs! Take the grips off and you will find there is a coil spring for each bar. One per side. They are replaceable and superior to leaf springs. I love the big sights. I liked the mag release on the previous version. But not a big deal. I want to like it but guns this size fall into a weird category: very small for a belt gun, too big for a pocket gun. Another potential bonus for the tip-up Berettas: the barrel can be pushed into a target and fired and it won't cause a malfunction like other autos. Love .32 acp. It's superior to .380 in blow-back guns like this. I'd like to see 500 rds put through one with a suppressor and see if the slide or frame crack. Honestly the best .32 right now is buying an older Beretta Cheetah or new 80X and getting a threaded .32 barrel from Allegheny Arms! (As I did)

I have the older model that I bought about 7 years ago. My wife and I will be 75 in a few months, and I thought it would be a great piece for her. She and I are in good health, thank God. Our hands are still strong and have no problems racking a slide. I originally bought it for her for easy carry, see we live in a non-friendly gun state, and concealment is a must. However, she feels better with her 40cal full-size, so I carry the 32 50% of the time. The 32 with the pop-up barrel is great for anyone with weak or small hands.

@@hepburn118 I was thinking the same. It hasn't been possible to carry here in Sweden for more than 50 years. Once upon a time before people here accepted gun laws .32 caliber pistols were pretty common. I'm not sure it's even possible to own a new one here, because self-defence isn't a "legitimate reason" to own a gun(!!!)

@@hepburn118 The worst thing is that people are cowards pretending that this isn't absurd. Many countries even disarmed their citizens as "thanks" for them taking part in wars. The UK did it as early as after the Napoleonic Wars, but most countries in Europe did it after WWI and WWII. The Soviet Union even deported war veterans to Siberia or (it isn't 100% sure but very likely) murdered them. You can even point out to people that they're not allowed to carry pepper spray (like here in Sweden), while the state can have hydrogen bombs if it wants. Still these sheeple don't get upset about this. If anything, they get upset on the person that dares to speak up about it.

I've got an original Tomcat that my dad bought me back in the early 90s' . This one is one of the ones that people were complaining of regarding the frame cracking . Well , I've probably shot over a thousand rounds through it since I've had it , and I can say that not only has the frame held-up well , I've never ever had a malfunction either . It's probably the most reliable auto I've ever owned , and it's definitely the most comfortable pocket gun I've carried . I love it and recommend it .

Yes, I too stay away from high performance ammo . I only use std.fmj rounds , and that's also 'cause I heard of a condition called "rim lock" that occurs if the ammo is too short in length like those 60gr. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones. They seem to be a hit-or-miss in quality. I had one that I barely put 100 rounds through. Cracked frame, busted firing pin, spring problems, basically a piece of junk. Beretta basically told me to go pound salt. I wouldn't use anything from them now if they gave it to me for free.

They're fine until they're not. Just because yours hasn't cracked the frame yet means nothing, there are too many which have cracked to deny. Mine included. It's when, not if it's going to happen. This new version appears to have fixed that design flaw from the little I could see from this video which totally skipped over that known problem afaik

Honest? He talked-up it being chunky, yet conveniently overlooked the impact that has on concealability. He was more than happy to spew Beretta's marketing spiel about a lighter trigger, yet despite having both guns _and_ a trigger scale on-hand, did he test it? Did he mention the Tomcat's 130 ft-lb muzzle energy limit? When he said the gun was made of stainless, did he say anything about the frame being aluminum? He stated .32 ACP has 125 ft-lbs muzzle energy, yet the ammo he showed is rated 162 and 157 ft-lbs, respectively. Honest indeed.

I have the 3032 Tomcat and I regret buying it. Extremely finicky with ammo. You can't get through a magazine without failure to eject, failure to feed. The barrel release lever is not only stiff and unmovable, it is positioned so close to the grip that you can't get your thumb in there to push it forward. When the barrel is tipped up it takes a two handed downward pressure just to close it. The KZbin videos make it look so smooth and easy. Buyer beware! You might get a lemon. Customer service ignored all my emails and phone calls until my warranty expired. Beretta finally redesigned the barrel release lever on the 30X. Great! Maybe they really are listening to their customers complaints.

Good video. New pistol looks great. I carried a Tomcat for years was a great firearm, that is until the frame cracked. Beretta told me it was my fault and wouldn't warranty the pistol. Thanks Beretta.

They thickened the area where they cracked quite a few years ago. One problem they still have is firing pins breaking if you dry fire them. I winced watching him not using a snap cap...

Didn't you read the love note Beretta included in the box about using ammo with less than 130 ft-lbs muzzle energy? It's only a small minority of .32 available on the market, and doesn't even meet CIP specs. Beretta themselves, who own multiple ammo companies, don't even make .32 with such low energy, so you have no excuse! I think you owe Beretta an apology.

I understand that the Tomcat 32 ACP manual limits the ammunition to 130 ft-lbs muzzle energy. The hotter ammunition breaks the frame.

I have a bobcat, 2x tomcats, cheetah 81fs, cheetah 80x, m9, m9a3, and m9a4. The 30x does rectify all the glaring tomcat problems (sights, trigger, heel catch, mags), but if 30x still comes with a WARNING about standard pressure ammo cracking my frame and VOIDING warranty.... they can keep it.

I was hoping to see you review this - love all your Beretta/pocket pistol vids! One thing to note about “don’t have to rack the slide”: I have a Tomcat and have had to clear a stovepipe or two, in which case you do have to manipulate the slide and that short, stiff recoil spring would be a bear for someone with low hand strength.

I have a Bobcat. I never thought of myself as having low hand strength until I got that Bobcat. I've never struggled to rack any handgun before that. If I cock the hammer, the slide comes back easily, but racking it with the hammer down is absurd.

@@chrissmalley83Yep. I live on a farm and am constantly turning wrenches (my hands aren’t weak), and even I struggle sometimes to rack the slide with the hammer down. It’s pretty darn stiff.

@chrissmalley83
@chrissmalley83 3 ай бұрын
@@jackjohnson291 Since this conversation, I couldn't stop thinking about *why* the Bobcat is so hard to rack. I removed the firing pin and using a file and a polishing wheel on a Dremel, I increased the radius where the slide contacts the hammer. I mangled the spring pin that retains the firing pin during removal, so I have to order a replacement, but I can rack it now from a hammer down condition without issue. Now the question is whether the modification I made will hurt the function, because the blowback now has less initial resistance. I'll have to wait until I get the replacement roll pin to find out. I'll make a trip to the range once it's all back together, and report back.

My mother carries the previous model, and she really likes it. The updated mag release is welcomed, but I’m not sure about the push button barrel catch. There’s little real estate, so I can see it accidentally getting pushed. But maybe it’s stiff enough to not be a problem? I’m not too wild about a mag extension for the extra round. There seems to be plenty of room in the grip to have done something different.

Yes, I'd prefer they'd kept it a lever.
@ItsMrAssholeToYou
@ItsMrAssholeToYou 3 ай бұрын
The lever-arm recoil springs would mean a major redesign of the frame to accommodate a fatter mag. This looks to be barely a refresh, with the mag eject button and trigger guard being the only meaningful frame differences. I don't consider the barrel release to be 'meaningful'.

Almost bought a 3032 today, but decided to wait. Glad I did - I'm waiting for one of these. I normally carry a 9mm, but this would be good to have (I think, anyway). The 80X Cheetah and 92GTS have my attention, too. Great reviews, as always. Thanks!

My EDC was a cherry P-64 with French walnut grips, but it was in too good a condition to be living in my pocket all the time. I picked up a 3032 Covert that fits the bill nicely. Had my smith slick it up a bit. Spare mag in my other pocket. I carry mine cocked and locked in a DeSantis pocket holster. As Paul Harrell mentioned (as he gestured with his hand in a circular motion around his head) "Shot placement is key."

@@burtonkephart6239 I'm a huge FEG fan! My first pistol was a PA-63. I let it go to a friend who needed a piece and am always looking for another one with a matching mag to replace it. I have other variants and other FEG models, but I would carry the PA-63 in a heartbeat. 9x18 Makarov is way more persuasive than .32 ACP.
