Nice and helpful. When I visited Berlin last October I took the FEX into the city, then changed to the U-Bahn to get to my destination. No problems. Heading back to the airport, I walked to a station to get the S9 instead of the U-Bahn so I wouldn't have to transfer. That morning, however, the S-Bahn trains weren't running for some reason! I panicked a little but walked on to a bigger station where, fortunately, I was able to get on a Regional train to BER (and got there faster than if I'd managed to get on the S9 as planned).

Trying to find the train to the city center was an incredibly difficult task. I can't believe they make it so darn confusing. The signs are impossible to figure out. Even the airport employees can't give decent directions.

I'm so sorry you had problems! There are signs above you with a little train icon, but I agree, they could definitely make them bigger and more obvious. Hopefully you found it eventually!

Correct, your ABC ticket is valid for all forms of public transport in Berlin: Sbahn, regional trains while within zones ABC, Ubahn, trams, buses. So from the airport, even if you have to switch a few times to other forms of transport, your ticket is valid.

Thanks dear. Great video, if i may request information to get from Berlin airport to Hotel de Rome, a Rocco Forte hotel Behrenstraße 37 D-10117 Berlin. As per search it shows me to take RE8 train but shows its closed due to construction etc So will this be open until 20th December?
@BerlinTravelTips2 ай бұрын
What I'm seeing right now is that the RE8 is running until around dinner time. When I change the date to December 20th, it shows me a note that there will be a schedule update on December 15th. So if your flight was today, I'd say it depends on what time you're arriving. Not sure about later in December. The RB23 is another good option, it has the same route while going from the airport through the city (once it leaves Berlin the route is different) and it also runs once an hour, like the RE8. Then there's also the S9 sbahn, it's just a little slower because it makes more stops. There will be some option, probably more than one option, for you to get into the city. I think you might have to just check a little closer to your travel day and see what it tells you. And even better if you will have data on your phone and you can check the routes on the app after you land. Hope this helps!

Hi again 😊 Kindly could you suggest is it enough or more. I am planning to stay in Berlin for 5 nights Friday to Wednesday. Me, wife & 6 year old son. So we as a family what do you suggest for Christmas markets and sight seeing in Berlin. Basically we will be getting Weekend ( Saturday & Sunday ) So should we stay in Berlin or move out to another village near by Berlin for Saturday & Sunday and Monday & Tuesday are enough for Berlin? What do you advise as local, 5 day itinerary for Berlin or including Berlin & another nearby cities etc. If 4 days are good for Berlin, I will stay in Berlin rather than moving around. Please as a local could you suggest shopping & restaurants too. Do not want Tourist places 😇 because quality is not good etc. Thanks for your time in advance 😊
@BerlinTravelTips2 ай бұрын
@@ssaszlonely In general, I think 3 days is a good amount of time for Berlin, 4 days if you want a day trip. And with Christmas markets, you can easily fill 5 days. Here's my suggested itinerary for Christmas markets plus sightseeing: berlintraveltips.com/berlin-christmas-markets-itinerary/ Here's my 4 day itinerary for non-Christmas time, and it involves time for a day trip: berlintraveltips.com/4-days-in-berlin-perfect-berlin-itinerary-to-experience-the-city/ Potsdam makes for a good day trip to see the palaces and the Potsdam old town has a Christmas market. But if you want to go inside any of the palaces, don't go to Potsdam on a Monday, they will be closed. But you can still see them from the outside. Between those two itineraries, you should have plenty of things to do/see to fill 5 days, especially if you decide to go to Potsdam. I also have lots of different types of tours you can take here: berlintraveltips.com/best-sightseeing-tours-in-berlin/ You need a ticket that covers zones ABC to go to Potsdam. For food, here is my food & drink section: berlintraveltips.com/what-to-eat-drink-in-berlin/ You'll find restaurants in Mitte (central district), restaurants in Friedrichshain (district where East Side Gallery is, but it's also the district where I live), German restaurants, craft beer, and more. Also, keep in mind that if you want to go to any museums, most museums are closed on Mondays, so you need to plan around that. Here's what you can do on a Monday: berlintraveltips.com/what-to-do-in-berlin-on-monday/ And here is a list of ideas for things to do with kids, keeping in mind that some of these will be for kids who are older but some are for younger kids: berlintraveltips.com/berlin-with-kids-family-activities-in-berlin/ One last thing: A 24 hour ticket for transport also covers up to 3 kids aged 6-14, so you don't need a ticket for your kid if you're buying a 24 hour ticket.

Also please, is it possible to buy an extension ticket from ticket machines, am thinking if I have AB ticket and need to travel to airport last day
@BerlinTravelTips7 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely possible to buy an extension ticket. In the app, I have to click on "single tickets" and then there's an option for extension tickets. I think the ticket machine is similar. The machines will switch to English, but sometimes there's still a German word here and there, so you might see it as "Anschlussfahrausweise" rather than extension or connecting ticket.

Can you buy tickets online or mobile app?
@BerlinTravelTips2 ай бұрын
You can buy tickets through the BVG Fahrinfo app. I have another video about the app here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIC8gIeVjaqfpsU
@cmartin_ok8 ай бұрын
There are no escalators down to the platforms at the airport, only up, so be prepared to use a lift/elevator if you have luggage. This also seems to be the same at some U-bahn and S-bahn stations. There are 3 travel zones for cost purposes and the airport is in the outer C zone; be aware of this when travelling back to the airport. Also the public transport system is barrier-free so you don't have to worry about negotiating turnstiles or barrier gates whilst pulling your luggage. Just make sure you have a valid ticket to show the inspectors if they ask..... and of course the fares have risen since this video was made :-(
@BerlinTravelTips8 ай бұрын
Yeah I really don’t understand why they don’t have down escalators to the train platforms. One of many problems with the airport. And yes, the BVG ticket prices go up every year. But the process is the same. I’ll update the notes when I get to my laptop.

hi ali we are visiting berlin in march and just wanted to ask you something. excuse me if this sounds silly lol. i want to buy a 48hr ticket from the app you included in the video, can i still validate it if it is on my phone?
@BerlinTravelTips Жыл бұрын
Hi, not silly at all! When you buy tickets in the app, they are valid immediately. For certain types of tickets, like the 24 hour ticket (there is no 48 hour ticket, so you'll need two 24 hour ones) you can change the time/date by clicking on where it says "valid from" and changing it.
@davidboard2410 Жыл бұрын
@@BerlinTravelTips ok that's great thanks. So once it's on my phone how do I validate each journey. Sorry if I sound thick
@BerlinTravelTips Жыл бұрын
@@davidboard2410 As soon as you purchase the ticket, it will be validated. If you purchase it for a different time, it will automatically be validated at that time. You don't have to do anything else besides buy the ticket on the app. If ticket checkers come onto the train/tram/bus, go to the tickets section of the app, scroll to the bottom where you'll see "ticket history" and click on that. Your current ticket will be in the "tickets" column, and any expired tickets are in the "history" column.

First, your code words are cracking me up, love it! Unfortunately I don’t have any helpful advice. I think Google Maps is a far efficient tool for this
@BerlinTravelTips8 ай бұрын
Google Maps isn't always right though. I've seen it say to take a bus from one side of the airport to the other and then go back inside the building to go downstairs to the train platform. I've also seen way too many tram stops that list trams that do not go to those stops. You also can't buy tickets on Google Maps.
