Please my fellow followers of the great kenenisa bekele,help me come to terms with the fact that there's coming a time when bekeles age will one day catch up with him. How will the world of athletics be without him? One might argue that there will be other best athletes still to come who would supersede the achievements of the man in question, but in my opinion his records might stand for decades before being broken. How l wish I could have an opportunity to at least shake his hand! Long live the 10000 and 5000 meters king , long live the Ethiopian tiger. We lobe yoi

favourite people I don't think his 5000 and 10.000 meter records will be broken. No one has even been close to run near them. Mo Farah and Geoffrey Kamworor had a seious attempt to run superfast at the 10.000 m in Eugene, but came 33 seconds behind Kenenisa Bekele's world record. Of course; 26.50 is superfast, but it's still 1.33 seconds per lap behind Kenenisa.

Look at that speed. Incredible. Bekele ran the last 1,600 in 3:58.3. Crazy man, 53.XX for the last 400. The difference between the Top American distance runners and the Top African distance runners are slowly dropping. Teg finished within 2 seconds of Bekele, Solinsky was in there. It's time for an American to do some damage on the world stage. Teg is going for sub-13:00 in his next race and we as a country need another sub 13:00 runner. Go Teg!!!!!

He's still not amongst the all time 30 best on 5000 meters. Farah is not using drugs, there's just not anyone who is as good as Bekele was. Not even close to be as good.
@Vedioviswritingservice
@Vedioviswritingservice 10 жыл бұрын
Because Bekele has lost a step and the people Farah run with, run slow, this enabling him to steal race after race. You see in this race, Bekele injects pace and Farah can't win. You can't run a distance race at a jog and expect to be the sprinters over the last 1500m.
@Vedioviswritingservice
@Vedioviswritingservice 10 жыл бұрын
That was Mo Farah then and now look at him now. Beating everyone. Very suspicious. I don't know what type of drug testing long distance runners undergo, but its not working. Farah is even running 1500m now. Will he beating Usain bolt next ? This is silly.

J London but farah's times are mostly not wrs or even close to them. he races well and takes advantage of the fact that some of those races are somewhat slow, and he's got a great kick to finish these races. farah switched coaches to salazar a few years back and this has improved him. he trains with galen rupp who is basically taking baby steps each year and thus manages to be world class. if either of them is suspicious, many of them are, including bekele. and i'm a fan of bekele. i personally believe there is no one in the world class range who has always been drug-free. this is no excuse for any of them, btw.

If you are totally against tactical races, then essentially what you are advocating is that the winner of the race should be the most aerobically fit man on that day. To me that's not racing, and ignores the fact that runners can have various strengths and weaknesses.

Fairly recently Mo ran 3-28 for 1500m. Now, I would have thought that a top notch 10,000m/5000m man could break those world records in his smoking jacket and slippers with leg speed like that. But he didn't seem to attempt to do so. Why? Then recently they made such a song and dance when he broke the 2 mile indoor record in Birmingham.

Actually Steve Cram was a 3:46 miler...but he's not at all a moron - he's a genius to the sport, he's just including a few words about Farah, not talking about him the entire time. This was a great race, Lagat and Bekele battling it down the straight! Lagat's form looks fantastic when he gets into his sprint, and same with Bekele - in my opinion they have the two best forms I've seen from distance runners. Amazing how Farah went from running like this to becoming world champion 2 years later!

This wasn't really a slow race it was a tactical race. The finish times for tactical championship races for the last 40 years haven't changed. Since the back of the pack has gotten faster, at times, they put pressure on the worlds best to the point that the 1999 2003 2008 championships were almost a time trial race.
@HouseofJello
@HouseofJello 14 жыл бұрын
@jransub4 I don't really know about that one... it depends on how far out the kick starts really. if lagat had run the 5k in 2004, it would have been a completely different race, assuming he's at his prime 5k fitness level. guerrouj can't match lagat's footspeed, but he's way tougher. Bekele is about as tough as guerrouj, but not as fast. it would've been awesome to see those three in a race. (did they ever race?)

Welllll I dunno about that. In the finals of a world championship the only thing that does and should matter is winning. Sure world records are fun to watch but watching a tactical race play out is just as fun if you truly appreciate distance running.

What do you call a break away if not a tactic? I guess I can't argue that tactical has become semantic for a slow first X meters with a fast last 400m. Not convinced there is really anything wrong with it though, except for perhaps it's prevalence. It is a perfectly acceptable tactic though, especially if you are a Farah, Rupp, Lagat, type guy. The real problem/question though is what happened to big pushes from 800+ out, or mid race surges? These guys can't all think they can kick...

Disagree. Tactical =/= slow. Look at the Olympic 10k for example from London. It was quite slow, but the pace was very erratic, in part because of Tadesse, who was constantly surging. That sort of thing can take some of the kick out of other runners. Tactical doesn't exclusively mean slow. Races can be fast and tactical, i.e. mid-race surge, they can be races where someone who is a great kicker but not as good aerobically goes front to slow race so he can kick. That is all part of racing.
