Hey Guys, I'm a former American Football player. In 1983, on the top of an Egyptian -Nile River - Cruise ship, I thought (later) that my brother and I had invented parkour. Of course we weren't so immodest as to think so, but without the internet to tell us, we had no idea. By the end of the cruise though, a veritable boatload of kids (maybe 8 from Italy and 2 brits) were trying to imitate our moves. I'd grown bored and decided to see how far I could stand and jump horizontally and some vertically from the floor of the top deck to successfully grab the 2" steel bars mounted over the top-deck (for awnings) that were very sturdy. Then swing and release and fly to the next cross bar, etc. Eventually we integrated running on top of the awning cross-bars, much to the chagrin of the crew. I think I made what we'd call a "broad jump" of about 14'. Recall though we were jumping and essentially diving out to grab the 8'6" high cross bar. Seemed like a feat. No idea. We then began jumping from deck to railings and trying to balance on the round bar at top edge of the ship. We were warned that we absolutely did want to fall into the Nile river, but we loved what we were doing. Honestly, had I been there to witness my brother and I, I would've thought the 18 year-old as talented as you all if, may I say, quite extreme for a 215 lb American Footballer. I suspect you guys are mostly lighter but y'all are physically quite capable and entertaining that I even find myself watching the jabbering between "runs." JK, it's all good content but no good without the athletic feats of you guys. NOTE: I absolutely prefer the 4' to 8' walls and fences, even the 12' cement poles to those freaking death height rooftop edges. Honestly, I'd rather you all try to land a lengthy "Caht Pahss" onto a small surface 15' away than that rooftop shite. But, it's all good! Anyway, I've watched these vids for about 6 months and I must say the entire sport appeals to me, always has and you blokes are entertaining and the way you deal with various members of the public and international public, y'all are a GREAT EXAMPLE of how "Kids" should behave. You know, do your thing, but if someone is screaming about it, either move on, justify what you're doing or come back another time. No matter what, treat others with respect. Golden Rule lads and you epitomize it on film every -however often you publish. I don't live far from youtube and if they give you a hard time, I'm an attorney and I'd like to offer my services. To us, watching you guys pick a line is just like mogul skiing in California (or Utah or Colorado or anywhere), one must "pick a line" and try to dominate it. Same exact principle. Instant appeal when I saw you guys setting up your 'routes' or 'lines.' We didn't hear about parkour for years, although we're certain it was invented because so many parks or trails in California had what we called PAR COURSE just about 2 years later (that we noticed). Perhaps the name identifies the inventor (some Frog) but leave to we Americans to treat it like something soft (Par Course-wtf??). It isn't. But some of the best times. I wish I could go back in time and 'train' along with you all to see how the heavy dude does it. I played Free Safety in D-1 the Western Athletic Conference. Ran a 4.5 40-yard dash and was told I should be a linebacker. Still, I want to do a "parkour" for - I can't say it - freakin' older dudes and put it on KZbin. You Storror all are an INSPIRATION!
