Bernard Lagat is one of the most prolific distance runners of all time. At the age of 41, he qualified for his 5th Olympic Games in the 5000 meters at the 2016 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
Currently, Bernard Lagat has 13 global medals from World Championships and the Olympics, a number that few can match.
In 2007, Lagat famously won the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meter double at the World Championships in Osaka, Japan.
Thank you for watching!
Enjoy!

I disagree. Just because Lagat could stay relevant for so long, he wasn’t running any PR’s. He stopped winning international medals at a certain point. He hadnt ran a relevant PR since he broke the 2 mile indoor AR but that was years ago. Because he tried to stay relevant on the track for so long, he missed his opportunity to excel at the marathon. 2’12 and change for a marathon doesn’t match any of his other personal bests.

interesting scoring system. we had the pleasure of meeting Bernard at the Gold Coast Marathon host hotel were we were both staying. he actually approached us and we began to just schmooze, later introduced us to Sara Hall who won the previous year. his goal was to run a PR. Previously his first marathon was around 2:15-2:17 if I remember., He was/.is a gentleman and if you could add a category for personality and integrity I would give him an 11! we cherish the pix Bernard took with my wife and hope we can meet again PS. He ran 2:12 and came in 5th! Hope they re-do the US olympic marathon qualifiers in view of the 2020 cancellation - hopefully he will qualify but for sure we will be there to hear him on!

I feel like many of Lagat's master's records are pretty close to untouchable! A 3:54 mile, 7:37 3k, and 13:06 5k are strong times regardless of age! Not to mention he has a 1:02 half marathon PB (current US master's record) and a 2:12:10 marathon (which stood as the US masters record for a bit).

Coe without a doubt should have a higher score. He was a brilliant tactician and should have had a ten there. He could adapt from the 800 to suddenly become the top miler out of the blue and to everyone's surprise. He was first known as an 800 meter runner. Plus he had to overcome sickness of various kinds. He had to come back from defeat in Russia. Also, his 800m record lasted forever. That might be a good category to add.....how long their records lasted. His 800 meter run was beyond human and in the stars. His running form was exquisite....like art. This score thing has its problems but is a fun exercise. Thanks for the great videos though....really enjoy them. With your rubric he should have a 98 score.

How is mo over seb co?
@TotalRunningProductions
@TotalRunningProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Keegan Hughes Well, correct me if I’m wrong, but I put Mo above Coe because he has more international accolades and has been on top for longer. Also, Mo has won 4 Olympic golds vs. Coe’s 2, also, Mo (a mostly 5k and 10k runner) has a faster 1,500 despite being more of a long distance runner. These are a few reasons why I put Mo above Coe, and remember, I gave Coe a 96, I think he’s an incredible runner, virtually icon status, so Im definitely not looking down on him, I just think Mo is a little higher. Thanks for your question!

@@TotalRunningProductions, Farah has better time in 1500 m than Coe, but 30 years later in a race finishing 20 meters behind the winner, while Coe was WR... Farah times are shit compared to the others (Bekele, Haile, Hicham, Lagat, Kipchoge, even Paul Tergat, Daniel Komen, etc.)

Great comments, on epic runners. You will get database of legends. Note that you have trouble making distinctions on 9-10 (11? why not than you can have a max of 110, I have gotten 11's on score at school by creative teachers). To be more precise, a 10 (suggesting perfection) doesn't exist in the conventional world because it is impossible to obtain, and it mean that nobody can be better, which is false, hence world records will be broken for as long as humans compete at global events). Why not be more precise and rank 9 again from 1 to 10. so you get an category of true exceptions. Like Kipchoge should be an 9.8 or something on economy of running for example and Mo Farah an 9.2 or something. It is still an educated guess but that is fine.
