Yes, but there is a detail that he missed, the last step to pass the guard is a hook that he did not put and you do not release that hook until you pass the guard. Well it is a white belt who does this technique there and I understand.

That's what makes him exceptionally geared for Catch wrestling specifically because of the emphasis on maximum top heavy pressure, smothering your opponent the entire time you're working, and making them as uncomfortable as humanly possible while making them suffer. If all done correctly, this will keep your opponent distracted and will kill their stamina and endurance much faster than usual

When I started training in Catch under Hartsell, back in 1992 or so, he emphasized pain, pressure, crushing in every position/transition you found yourself putting your opponent in. I don't see a lot of that in many Catch players these days. What I do see is Catch guys moving/transitioning like BJJ guys and submitting like Catch guys. What should be happening is the Catch guy should be moving/transitioning like a Catch guy and finishing like a Catch guy. There is a world of difference when that method is done in Catch. The difference between the two approaches can be heard very audibly if done right. That being said I love all grappling arts!

john danaher shows great details in his dynamic pinning instructional... basically most important detail i can relay is its about keeping control of the near arm. If you let their nearside arm retract, get the elbow to the matt, you lose it... thats when they can get out towards your back.

last night when I was rolling in bjj class, I had my training partner pinned with kesa gatame but the coach (Brown belt) kept telling me to abandon that position and advance to mount because my back is compromised. Im a judoka and new to BJJ, can anyone explain to me why that was a risk? I had my training partner pinned and I had side control. So I really didnt see a risk and just want to understand what I'm not seeing.
@SimonBriz
@SimonBriz 2 жыл бұрын
There is nothing wrong with Kesa Gatame. You were probably there too long and weren't really doing anything. Way before you go to mount you want to transition to side control and place all your weight and pressure as you go for a finish. Then and only then do you go for mount before using knee on belly first. By switching straight to mount you are missing out on about 25 submissions and tiring your opponent.
@katkyle8169
@katkyle8169 2 жыл бұрын
@Water Gun I actually ended up joining a different gym. its much more clear in my new gym bc my training partners are much better at defending by protecting their elbows so I cant sink into the position and tire them out or they give it up for a better position into a back take or arm bar.
