I recently started BJJ, but have 30 years of wrestling experience. I was a Division 1 collegiate wrestler and my coach was head coach of the Olympic and World Greco Roman teams (Andy Seras). Naturally, we often had other Olympic athletes train with us, so I have National and International experience as well. I also have Judo experience prior to starting BJJ. Ok, hopefully that at least gives me some credibility, lol. I don’t want to knock the technique in this video, but as someone with my experience level and coaching, there’s a few things I’d like to add for those who would truly like to improve on the takedown game. Foremost, never back up. Only idiots will follow you. It’s literally one of the main reasons why high school heroes get crushed when they make the leap to collegiate wrestling. They back up and think that’s a set up. I assure you it isn’t for anyone who’s worth anything on the mat. Second, he/she/they who has inside control will almost always dominate the set up and defense. He was gripping the outside of the arms. It’s crap-it won’t work on anyone worth their weight in salt. You simply won’t get by the arms of anyone who’s any good. Establish inside control. Move laterally and change levels with push-pull combinations, getting your opponent to shift their weight onto one foot more than the other. You need to disorient your opponent by changing directions frequently and deliberately. This will take practice, but I suggest watching videos from wrestlers with collegiate experience. At that level, nobody gives anything away. Walking backwards with your hands on the outside of the elbows and then dropping to both knees ain’t gonna cut it. It’s just going to create a scramble-and you might just end up underneath the person in a front headlock. The classic finish from a double leg is to control the far leg on the opposite side of the head. Drive across that, which means you can’t be on both knees. This allows for you to finish and pass in a way that avoids getting choked. I don’t find that getting right into someone’s guard is a great place to be...particularly if you give away your neck. There’s better ways to establish position without getting into trouble.

Respectfully you're assuming that higher level jui jitsu guys are worth their salt in wrestling as you say, specifically takedowns and take down defensive. Not all are or ever will be, it's a very specific skill set. With the gi and how some people train it will work, at that level. Most people are not training to complete at your level, but survive the take down. Hope this is well received for the sake of conversation.
@josephbreza-grappling94595 жыл бұрын
Gregg, thanks for responding. I am fortunate to be around really respectful people where I train. They teach me and I teach them. There are things I never saw coming, and their willingness to help has gone a long way. From my prospective, knowledge is the best weapon. I may have come across as too harsh, but I think it’s important that people watching this know that that dude is incredibly athletic and probably doesn’t might just getting it to the ground. But for people who aren’t, it can go a long way if they can frustrate someone on their feet-whether that’s offensively or defensively.

A surprisingly civil comment for youtube. I definitely do not have your standup credentials but wrestled in high school and have been a jiu jiteiro much longer than I have wrestling. Pretty much all no gi as a disclaimer. I think you're spot on with most of what you're saying. Buchecha is famously athletic, and the level of wrestling in BJJ is obviously not the same as freestyle or collegiate. Rules dictate the sport though, and standup is simply not that important under most rulesets and thought of as almost a preliminary to the real action on the ground(I disagree with that and would like to see that change, but there is a element of wanting to see BJJ people do what they're best at). I think as the sport continues to grow you'll see the fat get trimmed off the bone in regards to the presently sufficient but technically unsound wrestling that you're talking about. Just look at submission grappling and MMA only 10-20 years ago and its amazing the stuff people got away with they wouldn't be able to now. That said BJJ has come a long way in terms of differentiation between the skillsets of wrestling and BJJ/submission grappling. High level wrestlers like Mark Kerr were winning ADCC gold in 2000, but thats changed. Nowadays, Ed Ruth got submitted by an ATOS teenage purple belt, Hudson Taylor got eliminated first round of ADCC, Gordon Ryan triangles Bo Nickal, etc. Gordon Ryan was talking about how wrestling really does become morphed in high level BJJ on his ADCC review instructional and I thought it was interesting. Hes honest about how mediocre his wrestling is and says that he might be doing stuff that looks sloppy in wrestling, but hes so confident in his front chokes/triangles etc that its actually a part of his game. Anyway, just thought it was interesting.

@@josephbreza-grappling9459 I'm a wrestler too and most of what you typed I agree with and support and teach. I was a pretty good D2 guy back in the day.
@josephbreza-grappling94595 жыл бұрын
Joe, it’s civil because we aren’t insecure about our skill sets, lol. Wrestling is a foundational skill set that has allowed for me to adapt well to Judo and Jiu Jitsu. I think it can really help in Jiu Jitsu if you can use the takedown to get side control or back. However, lots of guys pull guard quickly. I’d like to see that change, but maybe only because that would play into my strengths, lol

This is my favorite take down, the best initiation point is before you you grip. So you bow on then walk up to your opponent and go to grip , then pull away, stay upright, not bent over, so you're selling a dummy that your looking for an upright grip, circle around a bit and then come together again, go to grip with both hands at the same time then slap both his hands up and out then dip and tuck straight down behind the legs, you need to sell the dummy. Here's a real life fight using this takedown fyi kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZuwknVmd6aXibc

MGTOW Properties Title says best double leg take down for jiu jitsu
@mgtowproperties5 жыл бұрын
The ViewFinder Yes and Jiu Jitsu Is for self-defense When attacked in the street Yeah I know you’re gonna say it’s good for sporting competition Let’s say you get a guy and he is extremely good at this double leg takedown technique He could take down anybody at will So therefore it becomes second nature to him it’s just like a reflex and he does it on the street He could seriously injure his knees
@ryanthomas9865 жыл бұрын
That’s like saying Mayweather’s shoulder roll wouldn’t work on the street when it’s purely a technique to be effective for the sport. This takedown is not for the street it’s to get 2 points nothing more nothing less.

@@mgtowproperties while his variation of a blast double isn't the best and can be improved, landing on your knees on concrete isn't an issue. If you are hurting your knees you are shooting wrong
