The secret to a good straight ankle lock is that it's neither straight nor attacks the ankle. That's the case here and for all the high level ankle locks I've seen shown by ankle lock specialists.

I wanna thank Bernardo for being the sacrificial human in all these demonstrations. It's very interesting that Heath isn't even locking in an ashi garami.
@heathpedigo1754 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching George. This exercise just really helps at the early stages of understanding where to isolate the foot/ankle. Then you can slowly figure out what body positioning and knee/leg isolation works best for you. Plus my kids think it's magic lol!

@@heathpedigo1754 Many years ago I learned the no-hand method from another KZbin Blackbelt. I can get it to work reliably, but it's not as smooth or as tight early on as what you're showing here. So I'm definitely eager to try it. The first straight ankle lock method I learned was Dean Lister, and he does something entirely different that is more about inflicting pain on the Achilles tendon. I can get it, but I don't like it because it's easy to get people to tap to pain in a training session but they won't do that in BJJ competition or a fight. Tapping in a real fight doesn't mean anything because what are you going to do, just let go with zero damage done?

Grandmas got nothing lose and will not tap. Gotta rip the leg clean off, but that wont really stop them. You gotta destroy the brain.
