Long ago at concert, I turned pages for a man playing this piece. I needed a cigarette afterwards.

Stupenda esecuzione. Al mio Diploma d'organo ho suonato il preludio e fuga in sol minore op.7 n'3 nel lontano 1982... Giuseppe Perego Monza 16.2.1962

Is this heaven? Master Schneider performing, Dupre’s “Variations on a Noel,” and a Klais organ? A sacred conjunction of musical joy.

Bravo! How thrilling! Dupré's music is always technically demanding, but Herr Schneider - and the wonderful Klais organ - are more than up to the challenge. Thank you! 👍

An utterly superb performance of this challenging work; you allow the music to 'breathe'.

The chiffed flutes at 2:19 make it sound like a magnificent piece of architecture. It is sure interesting to hear French music played on such a German instrument! Wonderful interpretation.

But needs more high harmonics and it is not very animated really. cf Weir speeds. A bit stodgy. The pathos doesn't lie in the melody really. It's not a piece of pathos! For that go to Vierne's Stelle or the Peeters Aria.

I've always had mixed feelings about the sound of the organ, and I know I'm not alone. Generally I avoid solo organ music. But this performance is a delight, greatly enhanced by having the score available along with the music. Thanks for posting! Dupré must have had fun putting this together. He regularly played all the organ works of Bach from memory. An interesting commentary on the composer's life, and this particular set of variations, was published by Ashley Snavley as a doctoral dissertation (Arizona State University). Available online.

Höre ich da etwas „Korn, das in die Erde“ aus dem Evangelischen Gesangbuch Nr. 98 raus oder woher kommt die Ähnlichkeit zur Melodie?
@dirkbrodling42305 жыл бұрын
Das ist die Melodie von EG 98. Da steht auch, dass die Melodie ein französisches Weihnachtslied ist.

Elegant but dull as ditchwater, get your skates on pal, I was losing the will to live. Unfortunately the instrument was worthier than the performance.

I kind of agree! But I would be proud to play it perfectly at that speed. The ralls are overdone a mort. The great advantage I suppose is that the incredible ante-penultimate event - the Neapolitan B Flat 7 to D major - has its full value, Weir is obliged to ironize it (her technique is always to play ahead of the beat. I guess she would hate this! The trolls dancing variation is grotesque and the reed solo variation after that sounds like beleagured electrical wiring in a post-communist country waiting to short-circuit and catch fire. As kingfishers catch fire - wrote Gerald Manley Hopkins!
