When you're a minority, you can't really band together and send a loud, strong message. With the internet, groups banded together and organization became much easier. Sites like Tumblr showed to these people that they weren't alone and shouldn't stand for it. And we have the world we have today. I'm not easily offended, but I can see why there has been a rise in more sensitivity. Everyone has a voice and I'm apparently in the minority because it seems like sensitivity is the way of the future. The internet has changed the face of comedy and pop culture forever.
