I'm a Red Band All State player, from Alabama and i used to participate in UAB and UA Honor Winds. Every time you all remind me of those years gone by with your emaculate sound, it brings back so many memories and gives me a great feeling inside!!!! Thank you so much!!!!❤

Great playing. The dress uniforms are over the top!! Paid as staff sergeants but deserve O-10

They do in fact get paid more than your infantry E-6.

Obviously you have never served in the military. The uniform that the Marines use when they perform like the president's own or the commedants own is what they wear when they perform.

Sounds very pedestrian and joyless.

A mess. For some unknowable reason the conductor gives a whole measure for tempo at the start. 1:50 mind-bogglingly late cue. Syncopation parts are imprecise in many, many spots. Tempo is inconsistent and awkward as the brass tugs ahead without resistance. Things finally lock in towards the end but some pretty surprising stuff at this level of musicianship.

Where is the lightness and air in this piece? Its as if the band is playing with combat boots on in some sections. There is also no bounce to the music in the appropriate sections. Where is the Colonel when you need him to direct the band properly. Same old complaint I have when someone else conducts the band. Its as if the band is sight reading the piece for the first time and has not thoroughly rehearsed this famous piece we all know so well. Its also not about how fast you can play the last section either.

Your commentary is contradictory. You can't complain that the opening is stodgy because the tempo is a bit slower than you may be used to (but with some of the cleanest articulations in the woodwind lines that I've ever heard) and then criticize the briskness of the closing tempo, which is pretty much the tempo Bernstein conducted this section at. Would I conduct this differently, most likely. Do I appreciate and respect this interpretation, absolutely.
