Bass player here, but I usually only watch guitar tutorials since they go more into the theory of everything. Happy to say that I knew enough to NOT make these mistakes!! So, I guess I'm officially not a beginner anymore!!! Thanks Bernth!

The thing about music theory is that it helps you communicate specifically what you want. Lots of guitarists are really anti theory but then use terms incorrectly. As a drummer the ryhthm pyramid is essential and I think for any writing musician, no matter the instrument, you should know your subdivisions improves solos ryhthm riffs writing and understanding as well as being able to communicate with your drummer when trying to get a specific sound

I will be getting my first guitar at the beginning of next year, and am wondering if the Fretboard Mastery course is downloadable by itself only? As I am just starting to play I'd like to not overwhelm myself with all stuff and just get the basics down first. I've been binging these videos to get some understanding even before picking up the guitar, thanks for that!

I have a wicked hybrid scale where I mix the harmonic minor together together with the Blues scale, along with some chromaticism. It is how I theoretically can explain some of my leads. Listeners don't seem too impressed, but I insist it works. They just don't get it.

I’m getting faster with my legato scale, and picking. What are the first scales I should learn as a beginner Bernth.? I did a little research,and come too find out that we’re only a year apart (: thanks for the video and I hope you have a good day. You’ve helped me so much man ,crazy. I was doing my legato scale yesterday and learned by ear the guitar solo from the song Beverly Hills by weezer , so cool !
@Bernthguitar3 жыл бұрын
Using the natural major & minor scales all across the neck as a framework really helps - you just have to make small changes to get other more interesting scales (like I demonstrated it with harmonic minor in this video) - hope this helps :)

@@ottopoika8525 well I have been playing long enough to know, when you are playing on guitar, that you usually don't remember that killer riff you made and thought was great 5 minutes later when you decide you are going to write it down. so recording, at least I can play it back and listen to it again, and tab it to make the note of it for later use. I don't really use that when learning, though I do record what I am learning, its not for remembering things I played, its just to hear my technique.

It's really funny how every technical discipline is full of a significant number of students who don't want to learn how to be good at it. In music, every teacher has to brace their students for theory lessons. Don't be afraid kids. Here's a little bit of theory for you. In software, every teacher has to brace their students for computer science lessons. Don't be afraid kids. A little memory management to start the day. In woodworking, it's trig. Don't worry, kids. We're going to have to derive some angles for this one. It'll be over, soon.
