But it didn't take care of the black people a lot of those singers, Martha Reeves, and all of them died. with no money, people had to raise money to Bury them I thought that was cold for a brother to do that. Yeah, he was a transcendent but he didn't take care of his people..

I still to this day, find it UNBELIEVABLE that no one has done a movie or documentary on his life yet. He had one of the most successful music labels in music history and it was black owned. He introduced the world to an UPPER ECHELON of talents to have ever graced the entertainment industry. I hope that light bulb goes off in someone's head before he transitions this world so that he can see the appreciation of his contributions from those of us who will never get a chance to tell him personally.

Really? Marvin married Anna Gordy, he was 21 and she was 39. His hit making began in 1962. I believe Marvin Gaye had a hit every year, for the next twenty years. He had gone to Columbia, a couple years before his death. Motown Records supported his biggest album, "What's Going On" in 1971, he did duets with Mary Wells, Kim Weston and Tammi Terrell. I don't know what financial woes he may have endured, but he put out a stellar product...music that stood the test of time. A lot of these "tell-all" shows are not factual, the hosts don't research anything. Many say "information was told to them " and others never heard ANY music, yet claim that person is broke, etc.

Many artists didn't care any better with white record companies, Ray Charles at Atlantic, finally going to ABC; Aretha Franklin, beautiful songs at Columbia Records, dropped from the label, finally going to Atlantic (Motown wanted her first). Lloyd Price said many artists didn't get royalties, got paid with "a mohair suit" and a Cadillac ". Chess Records in Chicago had so many talented, cheated artists on its roster.

But Barry Gordon did not take care of the artist. Maybe maybe that broke didn't have the money for their funerals. People had to raise money to buy tombstones and everything. Many of the song riders didn't get the money that they deserve. Prince made it real plain when he said. The just do And Prince was absolutely right. It's If the record sales for 5 million records. You only give the artist a million dollars. Then the artist has gotten screwed That's gangster

Can we say that Berry Gordy and a lot of ways was a captain of Savior for the poor black community that was talented that could not showcase their talent with true light because of the racism that was reflected in that era and Berry Gordy being a businessman and an intelligent man was able to go against all of that he was able to pull you know a lot of white big sex into Motown so they could listen to the music and the sound and identify with just a sensational talent of black people from the ghetto that were very talented and always and and that he was a genius at that it was a at that time and an era where you know it was hard for any person of color to you know be able to closely encounter and build a rapport with such people that felt that their classes on was too big to deal with any colored person and he you know he knocked that stereotype right now and got in with

With apologies to Pat Boone, you should never mention Pat Boone and Miss Peggy Lee in the same breath. Peggy Lee was cool before there was a word cool. She was an exceptional vocalist and she was a great songwriter. Peggy Lee could sing any song in her own inimitable way. Peggy Lee was years beyond a Pat Boone and certainly beyond in talent and intelligence than Berry Gordy.

@@Maatization … Gordy was simply at the right time and the right place. Elvis Presley had already been the crossover from R&B/black music to young white teenagers. Some say that in show business, timing is everything. For Berry Gordy, it certainly was his time and he was lucky enough to have a family to lend him the $800 to start a business when he was 32 years old and no longer wanted to do manual labor at the Ford plant or anywhere else. And it wasn’t Berry Gordy’s voice that I heard singing “where did our love go” or even “please Mr. postman.” And Miss Peggy Lee is one of the great American vocalists of the 20th century. And she did have an impact on American culture through her music.
