Thanks Magdad, a nice clean-up on what looks like a very effective tool, that looks almost identical to the C.S. Osborne (out of Harrison NJ) model No. 124, I have had one of these on my wish list for a while for upholstery work !

I made one to pull upholstery staples (which are typically shorter staples) from a wide screwdriver, Dremel cut-off wheel and torch to bend a minor bow in the shaft for leverage that works great. Great job as always MagDad! I’ve done a fair amount of staple removal over the years using a number of different tools, basically whatever I had on hand. This tool seems just right for the job. My only criticism of the design is that the outer edge of the fork leaves a gouge in the wood. If that edge were rounded off it would only leave a smooth dent, if anything.
@357magdadАй бұрын
I think it was intended for upholstery where the wood would be hardwood, not the pine I used.

Looks great, I would not want to use that on a nice piece of wood the way it gouges. Maybe a piece of styrene under the puller to keep it from marring?? I would think it would tear paper to even 10 or more sheets
@357magdadАй бұрын
It was designed for upholstery. I think the wood is usually hardwood, not the pine I used.
@Rusty_okАй бұрын
I guess I don’t understand why you wire wheel the rust off and then soak in evaporust? I knock off the loose rust with a hand held wire brush soak in the magic juice over night and then wire wheel. Am I doing it wrong?
@beerdrinker6452Ай бұрын
Bench grinder wire wheel first to remove the maximum rust possible. Just sayin.
@357magdadАй бұрын
You're not doing anything wrong. Evapo-Rust is expensive, so I like to save it for areas I can't reach easily. I used the wire wheel to remove the rust I could reach and let the magic juice work on the rust in the tight areas on the business end of the tool.

I've pulled 500 basquillion staples out of my stage platforms in the scene shop. The true test of any staple remover tool will be if it gets the entire staple out of the wood without snapping off a leg. (This is where I cuss and speak ill of whoever used staples in the first place.) If this little guy can curl the whole staple out it's a winner! Need! 😂
@357magdadАй бұрын
I can see how broken staples would be annoying. I practiced with it a bunch and it seemed to get them out in one piece.

@13thworker45Ай бұрын
Magdad you always do a good job on your restorations. No the design was not good. The tips always broke off. A pair of snap on pliers ground just right will pull about 3 to 1 staples compared to staple pullers. I have removed thousands of staples in the upholstery business. They all have to come out to have smooth edges on upholstery furniture. You end up with some very tough scared hands pulling staples. Thank You
