Berserk Volume 21 剣風伝奇ベルセルク concludes the Tower of Conviction arc. This was by far my second favorite volume to read of Berserk. Can Kentaro beat this epic arc in future volumes? Also how do you feel about the White Hawk Griffiths return?

I was nearly sweating when Skull Knight was pointing to where Griffith was waking up. Then when the next page where it's just a whole page spread of a close up of Gut's awestruck face, man, I got chills. That art was fucking beautiful in those moments. Berserk will forever be that shit.

Susumu Hirasawas work fits the Berserk universe so amazingly well. He also did the OST for the PS2 Berserk game, which is great btw.. If you havnt heard it, just look up "Berserk - Sign" here on youtube. Why they decided not to use his music for the movies is beyond me... what a mistake.

the point of Luca and Nina is to represent the idealism and the dark side of humanity and how they could overcome these odds respectively, for better or worse. this is pretty evident throughout this arc, as seen from how the masses, called "the blind sheep" are blindly following a a divine entity, or Mozgus that somewhat represents a kind of angel to them, and presumes that it will save them from the horrors surrounding them.

Interesting thoughts here. I think that kentaro miura isn't anti religious necessarily, I just believe that he wanted to make a world in his story that contrasts ours in so many ways while tackling controversial topics. I think that guts represents both Christ and the devil because he is the "good guy" and what not, but also, he appears in dark and he is big and violent and everything. Griffith is also like this, because while he appears as an angel of light(like the devil) he is TRUE evil, but appears to be a messiah of sorts. Lots of emphasis on a world without a just God in berserk. Just some random thoughts here...

As a person who draws... It would take a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time to draw it. Unless you got like a team of dedicated people, this would take a long time even with practice, it's one of the reason I absolutely adore Berserk. I admire the artist so so much for this

About what you said when you talked about how the event of the Tower of Conviction would not have happened if Casca and Guts weren't there, you jusst forgot the Egg-apostle had the mark, so the cataclysm would still have happened, but it was worsened by the presence of Guts and Casca.

How is it that Berserk isn't more known to people? I've lost count the times I have spoken to people that say they like mature dark mangas, but have not read Berserk. When I start explaining how good it is to them, I can tell they think I'm probably just a fanboy and exaggerating.

Honestly if the beserk anime had continued and if the manga wasn't released on random occasions then beserk would be more known.. I had a friend who would read the manga but because of the way it was released and the fact that it once when months without a release he thought the series had Ended.

YZ anime yea the manga is not random anymore but in 2010 a beserk chapter was rare.. and they should totally adopt those arcs into anime form because when the original anime ended people who only watched the anime assumed everyone including guts died from the eclipse and thought the series was over.

It's an older manga. It's in a less popular demographic. The graphic nature doesn't make it a candidate of suggestion to everyone. Also because the MC is your generic nobody and there is no group of girls to want his dick for no reason.

I would suggest you to take your time in reading this manga. The author drops a chapter every 5-6 months basically... I'm at a point where I need to re-read past chapters just to remember what the fuck was happening 6 months ago.

The conclusion of this Arc was simply amazing, the way everything was built up the symbolism and the slow development of Guts Character were awsome. Overall this was one of the best structured arcs i have ever seen. Cant wait till you read the next volume since it is one of my top 3 favourite volumes and it starts my most favourite arc in any manga Nice review, Chibi

Comparing the current Casca to Farnese is kinda unfair.... And if you were comparing Casca's former self to Farnese as a strong female lead, I'd say that I like Casca much more. Casca actually had battle experience and she proved to those around her that gender wasn't a factor, inspiring both women and men alike. She had many more likeable qualaties such as bravery, strength, and all that jazz, but Farnese doesn't really have any of that. She's built up more as an __un__likeable character that can be used as a plot device later on.

Enoch Hilliard I agree that former Casca was a good character, but around Guts she was annoying as hell. She was always super defensive of Griffith, super emotional, super full on and took a lot of her insecurities out on Guts even though she loved him. Even when she loved him she couldn't leave Griffith, which personally I never understood (I can see reasons why besides pity, but I don't understand it).

I'd recommend it because the themes are portrayed so well by the strong writing of the Golden Age but if your squeamish at the sight of Gore and rape then I'd proceed with caution. But yes, one of the greatest Manga ever created if that's what you were asking

I have to agree 100% The Tower of Conviction Arc is supremely awesome. In a series filled with amazing stories and characters... Once you hit the Conviction tower, you get to appreciate everything that Guts has to struggle with and contend with. And for him to finally achieve a "Win" was satisfying.

I'm curious as to how Mosguz's bible was the only spot that wasn't covered in armor. Originally, I thought because that was a sacred object that rejected the demonic form, so it ended up being a weakness since he had it over his heart. However with good and evil being reversed in this world, it's hard to tell. Maybe there is still an Idea of Good involved with this to, so maybe the theory still stands. IDK. This series can get confusing.

You wanna know what Berserk did right that Pokémon did wrong? In the latter, pikachu constantly gets captured by team rocket that it's irritating to watch. You think they would've learned to avoid future attempts after the first few times it has happened, but nope. In this arc of Berserk, after Casca gets taken away a certain number of times, the supporting characters gave their all to prevent the "angels" from snatching her over and over again. I like how they don't just stand around dumbfounded and wait for things to happen.

The brand indeed attracts devils N such. But the twos brand resonated with each other is just one of the reason why it so bad. The main reason would be the land. That land is a fucking big pool of madness and even if 2 brand resonated can attract more devils than one alone, they wont be able to attract that much if there not many around in the first place. Think of brand as a gate. If they're in a land with no human ever come like the moo for the sake of example. If they are on the damn moon then even if there hundreds of sacrifices together there will be no demon around to be attracted with. There alway that much of shit in that place and it could happened anytime. The god had set it up and god hand use it to revive femto.

Ref no of years time had passed, in vol 17 when Guts returned to visit Rickart, Erica and Godo - Erica tells Guts he had been gone for two years. After a short rest and weapon repairs, Guts goes on his quest to find Casca, picking up Isidro along the way. I don't remember any more time references in the volumes between 17 and 21. It was so good to see Mozgus get his comeuppance in this volume, after he showed his true demonic form the brainwashed masses took him to be an angel rather than turn against him. Kentaro Miura has a genius talent at coming up with unique and weird looking foes for Guts to do battle against. When you mentioned the quality of the art itself - it is no wonder the volumes take so long to produce! Thoroughly enjoying your volume by volume reviews by the way. Very insightful and enthusiastic :-)

Great, Review I really love the conclusion of the conviction, griffith's re-incarnation was presented amazing And as always Miura did not disappoint. i would not be surprised if the next volume ends up being your favourite. And remember griffith from the golden age=/=femto. Also i recommend you reading the next volume with extreme attention, it sets up plot points which will be extremely important especiallly for volumes 27 and the beginning of 28. Also you are finally about to read my most most favourite arc of Berserk. And imo it has easily the best conclusion of any arc from this Series. I look forward to your reviews (Y)

It was not 2 people with the Brand. It was 3. Remember Behelit Apostle? He had a brand as well. Shit was already going down after Caska arrived, Guts just triggered the avalanche of shit. I believe it was more of a opportunistic improvisation on God Hand's part than something planned way ahead. The tower was probably meant to serve it's role in the same way but far in the future. Existence of two marked just allowed them to do the thing ahead of shedule.

Casca's son was confirmed to be Guts's by Skelebro neear the end of volume 13. But it's possible it was somehow "corrupted" by Griffith.

The whole story of the egg demon and Griffith's rebirth reminds me of a famous quote from Hermann Hesse's Demian. "The bird is struggling out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who wants to be born, must destroy a world. The bird flies to god. The god is called Abraxas." I hope I translated it correctly :) It's said that not the christian god, but Abraxas send Jesus to earth. That would mean Griffith is f*cking Jesus Christ... I don't want my comment to be too long, so just google Abraxas ;) Btw. I think it was quoted in Tokyo Ghoul too. Don't remember in which chapter, but it definitely was within the first 10, when Kaneki used his Kagune for the first time.

I'm not spoiling much, but as far as the manga goes, this is the last time we saw Nina (it's implied she is going to die of disease during that arc, so I'd not be surprised if she died offscreen) Luka and Azaan reappears very late in the serie. My favourite volume along with 13 is the volume 34, when you read it, you'll shit bricks.
