2 hours in when John states he doesn’t want to be the mental health guy……comedy is surrounded by embracing that inner person who has the guts to say what others are thinking……no different from religion. We all think things that many of us are too scared to say. Hats off to you John!

As an addiction counselor- John brings a lot of wisdom here about addiction - whether that’s drugs, sex, alcohol, rock and roll, or attention. And as a Christian- I appreciate Bert’s openness about wanting to find something bigger than himself. Most of what is wrong with the world is people thinking they themselves are center of the universe

Got to see the last 40 mins of his show in portland. Girlfriend won tickets off the Christian radio station. We went to the Brian Posehn show(we already had tickets to this)and then ran over to the show. Sat in first balcony since the ticket office was closed concierge just took us up and let us sit in some empty seats(gunna try this again sometime haha). I went in obviously skeptical but was surprised. He was really funny. I was religious in my early teens so I could relate to some but enjoyed it all.

My favorite comics are the ones who are hilarious without being vulgar. Like a little vulgarity doesn’t bother me but some go way overboard & it kills the vibe. Maybe that’s why John’s fan base is predominantly women. I think we appreciate that kind of comedy more. Idk.. I do at least. He’s just genuine & obviously not perfect but I guess I’d describe him as classy.

DUDE. I absolutely loved this episode because this was my childhood. I was raised in a super Evangelical household and I wasn't allowed to watch the Smurfs or Scooby Doo because it was witchcraft. I wasn't allowed to watch scary movies or listen to rock music because it was demonic. No Harry Potter, Star Wars or Lord of the Rings and everything was Rapture this! Rapture that! I never thought I'd grow up to graduate high school or get married because rapture. My parents traveled with Bob Larsen doing exorcisms. If you don't know who he is go look him up. I Couldn't spend the night with friends on the weekend unless they went to church and if they didn't my parents would come pick my ass up bright and early Sunday morning. Every summer was VBS and church camp was not Godly. It was just a bunch of rebelling teenagers trying shit with each other because our parents sucked. It wasn't until I moved out at 18 and stopped going to church and meeting sane normal people and started telling them stories that I realized HOLY SHIT! That was not normal. Like at all. Good job Bert! Hit it outta the park today.
