I love Craig Ferguson, I’m a recovering addict, and I remember him talking about his disease back when he had his show. I was full blown chaos, I wanted to die. I remember thinking wow, I’m not the only one. He’s so funny and charming he made sobriety seem like something I could maybe achieve. Thank you Craig.
@ader33364 жыл бұрын
So much of what defines him now seems to flow from that honesty. If something is good for him, he does it. If it is bad for him, he doesn't. He flies because he wants control over his fear of flying. He doesn't drink or celebritize or eat meat, because he knows the better way. I think that people get angry at vegans because they realize that it's the better way but cannot give up the yum of animal products. I know I cannot.

@@ader3336 It's not that it's a better way, it's just a different way. Would you agree that consuming produce out of season that is shipped in from all over the world probably isn't a better way? Over 60% of our produce comes from South of our border. How much fuel is used to bring grapes to your table in January shipped in from Peru? Mass factory farming kills animals each and every spring. Rabbits, groundhogs, badgers, squirrels, mice, bird nests with eggs/chicks etc get tilled under by tractors with the dirt, or sprayed with pesticides/herbicides, etc.. That story of the first drink changing the way you think is perfect. Last year I decided to see how long I could go without drinking because I felt like it was too much of a habit in my life, not because i drank excessively all the time but because i did it habitually. So I went 4 months without a drink and I felt great and accomplished. I decided to drink one beer and that was all i had. The next day i thought in my head, "that beer was nice let's have one again" and almost every day after that I had a drink at night around that time. Before I knew it I was back in my old ways. The weight I had lost came back and my personality/mood went back to how it used to be. Alcohol accompanied with regular habitual use changes your personality. You're either hung over or tipsy/drunk and that is no way to live. The trick I've found that has helped me is recognizing my problem and how it originates. I stopped drinking during doing certain activities. For me the time I desire alcohol is while I play video games at night. So I stopped doing it during that time. Trust me that wasn't easy but it did get easier as time went on. The goal for me is to be able to drink without needing to do it every time I play games.

He's one of the few honestly good and at the same time hilarious and original people left from his generation of television. I think for some reason not being American keeps people honest a lot longer in the biz. Especially when theyre from places like Ireland or Scotland. Or like south Africa or Israel. People who's recent ancestors were seriously oppressed have a much wider world view and a ton more humility. Its harder to corrupt them with money and fame because they have such recent genetic memory of a life that was so miserably difficult and brutal. Americans and English peoples have quality of life and markedly easier history in the last 100 year's for the most part so our morals lie on less solid foundation. Give our ideals a light flick and they topple over like a stack of plastic cups. Lol

Wow. As a former Navy “frat-style” ex-drinker who can’t stomach hard liquor anymore, it means a lot to hear two actual experienced substance abusers speak so openly and eloquently about this. I wish we had more experienced addicted people with a platform would share their tools for battling alcoholism!

Therapy/counseling is great, useful and can’t be replaced with podcasts for sure. That being said it’s more relatable when you hear it from these hilarious, damaged (like most comics) but successful people like these guys.

This is one if not thee one of Bert's best podcast episodes. He asked great questions. He let the guest talk and it was great! A rare look into Craig Ferguson

I’m super impressed with how great of an interviewer Bert is. He asked Craig every question I wanted to know the answer to. Even when he deviated and talked about Scotland for a bit, he brought it back to Craig’s journey with sobriety. Excellent memory and incredible listening skills. Craig Ferguson is one of a kind, and by far was the best late night talk show host. If anyone is interested, The Jay Leno Fly puts together some pretty great videos of Craigyferg. New subscriber!

Such a brilliant episode! I had a very similar experience to Craig with the drug Oxycodone, following a six day stint in which I had an untreated fully collapsed lung before deciding to check into the hospital. Because I suffer from a rare muscular condition, on the day of my admission into the hospital I was forced to undergo emergency surgery on my right lung without any anesthetics or pain medication. To say the least -- it was freaking brutal! Well, for the next week I was still stationed in the hospital to see if my right lung would then inflate on its own or whether I would actually needed a second, more invasive, surgery. The week past and my lung stayed deflated, and thus it was decided that I would have the second surgery. Mind you, I'm now two weeks into having a fully collapsed lung, in excruciating pain throughout, running on zero sleep. I maybe got 10 hours sleep total over the course of these two weeks -- no exaggeration. Then the night before my surgery was finally upon me, and Lo and Behold this would be the night that my neighbor (the patient one room over) would be screaming at the top of his lungs and calling the night nurse the C-word. I felt that if I didn't get any sleep before surgery that I would literally die, and my nurse must've felt the same because she insisted that I take an Oxycodone to get through the night. I was terrified to do so because I know how addictive they can be, but she eventually convinced me that I would be an idiot to refuse. Anywho, I took this pill and within seconds I felt more comfortable than I ever have in my entire laugh. All of the pain from my lung dissolved, the noise around me faded quietly into the background, and for the first time in weeks I actually felt like I could get some rest. I absolutely melted into my pillow, and all I could think about was just how disturbing it was that one drug could make a person feel so at ease. For that reason, I refused any and all drugs from that point on -- despite the agonizing road ahead -- because I knew that no drug that could make a person feel that good was safe to consume more than once. It really did make me realize just how dangerous those things are, because they make all your pain and stress melt away. I'm sure that's just how it is in the beginning, too, before it takes hold and makes you miserable. Which also makes you realize just how irresponsible it is for any doctor to prescribe them like candy. It's no wonder so many people fall into the trap and never get out.

I was mourning the passing of my Beloved Mom and stumbled across the late ,late show with Craig Ferguson. I was instantly smitten with everything about him....He was so damn funny and that charisma was contagious. I've loved Craigy Ferg since 2009 and had the privilege of seeing him live in concert. Wish he would do another show of some kind on TV. Love and miss you my Funny and handsome friend. Thank you for bringing laughter back into my life all those years ago. ❤❤❤❤

The first book Bert pulls out is called Cockpit Confidential and it's one of my favorite books I've ever read that I recommend to everyone. It completely changed my views/fears around flying and also completely dispelled my fear of turbulence. It will also make you despise airports in America more than you probably already do.
