Hey Beryl, hey everyone, Here in France we often have a "salade chèvre miel" (ie honey goat salad). It's a sweet and salty salad. Basically, you take lamb's lettuce leaves and you mix it with nuts and raisins (almond and other dried fruits may also be used). Some families add chopped onions. For the dressing, mix 1 or 2 table spoons of honey, 1 table spoon of oil, 1 table spoon of vinegar and 1 table spoon of balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Put a few slices of goat cheese on a piece of bread and put it in the oven/microwave of 5-10minutes. Take the salade, pur de dressing, add the hot piece of bread, a bit of extra honey and envoy. Hope some of you may try this recipe !

Hi Beryl! :) I really loved this series (all in all: your effort for these dishes delights my day!) As a Swiss citizen I was a little sad about the Bavarian sausage. I'm aware that you can't buy cervelat (which is the Swiss sausage you need for a Wurstsalat) in the US, but in fact, this sausage really is the most important ingredient of the salad. For the next time, maybe a lyoner wurst will make it taste more like cervelat. I just wish I could have sent you one, so you could taste the real Wurstsalat (because It will be soooo different from the one you made). Thanks for your amazing videos, I love them and will for sure keep watching them :)
@misss77772 жыл бұрын
I as a Bavarian who doesn't even like "Wurstsalat" I was quite as shocked about her choice of sausage😶 It looked a lot like "Weißwurst" which I hope it wasn't. Even though it is a South German, Swiss and Austrian thing I have never ever seen anyone use that kind of sausage anywhere I've been. Where I am from most people use Lyoner or maybe Frankfurter. But never anything like what she used...
@dalevion80662 жыл бұрын
This! It is soooo important to do Wurstsalat with Cervelat. A very big no-no, using Bavarian sausage!!!! Even spam would have been a better replacement than this German thing.
@kittyco0n Жыл бұрын
was about to say the same. i think closest that comes to a cervelat in US is what you'd call bologna (baloney? not sure how it's spelled) which i think is available everywhere in the US. Beryl, you should definitely try this dish again with the right kind of sausage :)
@notbanksy29778 ай бұрын
The Issue is that native German Speakers call Deli Meats like Mortadella and Bologni Sausage, while they also call stuff like Bratwurst Sausage, in the US those are 2 different 2 type of things, the guy who send the video should have used the right English word, deli meat not sausage. Lyoner isn't a thing in the US either.

Oh nice a swiss dish! But as a Swiss I need to clarify some things: Switzerland ist small, yes. But still, there big cultural differences between the language areas in Switzerland. So the shown Wurst-Salad actually is mostly fancied by the swissgermans. The french, italian und romansch part have their own dishes and favorised salads. For me as a person with roots in Ticino (italian part of Switzerland) I can tell you this about salads: Back in the days they where not that much cummon there. But my grandmother still made one we really enjoyed: red beans, parsley, cellery stalk, tuna (can) and a balsamico vinegar dressing. The ticinesian dishes are to north italian kitchen and are not that much similar to the swissgerman food culture. Same counts for the other language parts in Switzerland. ;)

Hello from Croatia Here is the salad my grandma used to make: Get a big head of lettuce, On a stove heat the vinegar (they used apple or alcohol one), put chopped bacon in hot vinegar (salty, smoked and dried kind) Let it "fry" a bit and pour it over the fresh roughly chopped lettuce. Eat while stil hot :) It is best over the winter sorts of lettuce because it softens it. I love sour and salty taste with a hint of smoke aroma.

You should try a polish salad, which we often eat at the bigger holidays such as Christmas or Easter :) It is called sałatka jarzynowa, so in English it would simply be vegetable salad, but it is much more than that. You are using cooked potatoes, carrots, celery root, pickled cucumbers and cut it all into small parts, or cubes. There are tones of different versions as to what to add more: it can be an apple, green peas from a can, an onion (yes, a fresh one) or even a hard-boiled egg. It depends on the household, really. When you have all ingredients cut, you do the sauce, using mayonnaise, horseradish and a bit of yoghurt or sour cream. Mix it all together and enjoy. This is, in my personal opinion, one of the best polish dishes ;)

My version of buko salad incorporates small cubed pieces of cheese to, in a way, will offset all the sweetness of the dessert. You can also add some canned sweet corn to add some saltiness to the salad. You can also turn that salad into a cake, which we call as a refrigerator cake by layering rows of lady fingers and the buko salad similar to how you prepare a lasagna. Then covering it with plastic wrap or tin foil and then freezing it in the fridge for a couple of hours until the salad component is frozen to the consistency of an ice cream. So yeah the finish product is like an ice cream cake and is usually given to guests especially during the christmas season cause of the different colors that is in the cake.

Grating tips: Lay the grater on its back and then push the vegetable away from you on the grater as you shred it. You won't get tired that way and since it is horizontal, you are not putting that much muscle into it and you don't get injured. Learned it from Chef Frank in Epicurious.
