@@BerylShereshewsky Embarrassing true Yahtzee story: I was taking my first flight to Europe and brought along a travel Yahtzee game. The dice were in a sealed blue rectangle and you clicked them into place to keep the numbers you wanted while it allowed the other dice to be free to re-roll. Somewhere over the Atlantic this very nice German lady commented to me that the game was loud. "Yes it is," I replied not catching her subtle hint. I've thought about her often and wish I could apologize to her. I'm going to download this version because it will be quieter! Thanks, Beryl ❤️🤟🏼❤️

Beryl! I'm from Tucson Az and yeah that was DEFINITELY too much bread for a Sonoran Dog! When we make them we get special buns from the mexican bakery that make it a much better dog-to-bread ratio, it's also softer, like a cross between a regular hot dog bun and a boleo. What I do when I have to use a regular boleo is pull out some of the inside of the bun before making the dog to get the bread ratio better and make more room for the toppings. So chaos approved in the name of making your sonoran dog more authentic! I hope you enjoyed it!

I live in Sierra Vista, AZ & YASSSSSSSS! The pinto beans & the fried onions & pico de galleo add to the flavors & the bacon wrapped hot dog is perfection!!! Then the addition of mayo to the regular ketchup & mustard make my eyes close & I am in heaven!!! They have THE hot dog buns they sell in Food City that are the even ratio!!! Cheers to the toppings of the Sonoran Hot Dog!!!🧡✌🏼

My girl/boy music and flowers is correct, we do not use bolillo for the Sonoran hot dogs we use a special bun that is kinda sweet but not too much, you should check this recipe when you do international cause Is quite different in Sonora, I have tried them in Tucson tho (wero canelo) and they were good and had the correct bun but I’m sure the Sonora recipe is quite different.

From a Mexican perspective 🙋🏻‍♀️ a really common thing with bolillos is that you can take out the white part (called migajón) if it's to much bread. No one is gonna complain about that. You take out a part, compact the rest and now you have more space for the filling. Also! If you have access to bolillos, please try them cut in half, toasted and then with refried beans and manchego cheese (molletes) or just butter and sugar (or cajeta!) So good ❤

Western Washington viewer here: very interesting take on the Seattle dog. As Roxy states, there's a lot of variations, with the only two solid components being cream cheese and an onion product of some kind, as the origin of a Seattle dog is from a bagel shop adding hot dogs to its bialys to feed the late concert-goers in the Pioneer Square area. As you say, the point isn't the same as a Chicago dog: a Seattle dog is supposed to be something hot and comforting enough to keep you warm on a late rainy night as you wait for a bus/taxi to take you home. My personal preference is grilled/caramelized onions instead of fried, jalapeño cream cheese, and a dash of celery salt!

Agreed. I've never heard of her Seattle dog. The way I've always had it has been: polish sausage cut in half (so its crispy on both sides), cream cheese, grilled onions, some jalapenos and whatever condiments you want (usually mustard and/or sriracha). Make sure the bun is toasted too! No bacon whatsoever.

Wiener winks and kraft macaroni and cheese were one of the go to meals for our family. We grew up with multiple years in poverty and were never comfortable money wise. We would also do hotdog sandwiches, which were two hotdogs, cut in half, then laid out across the white bread. Hotdog buns were expensive for us, so they were often only for special occasions or cookouts during summer.

The bun on the Sonoran dog is bigger than the buns they serve in Tucson. I was directed to a restaurant called El Ne Ne for a great Sonoran dog. The best one I had was in a gas station parking lot. They used a regular hot dog bun. It was served with a bacon wrapped banana pepper. The secret to a good Sonoran dog is that the hot dogs are grilled to the point they are crunchy.

Omg!! I've never heard anyone else refer to a dish as Weiner Winks - my family also ate them growing up. I'm from Wisconsin, so it's interesting to hear the name from Pennsylvania. My friends would tease me about the name, so I thought it was some weird thing my family made up. 😂 In my family, Weiner Winks were hot dogs and American cheese slices wrapped in a canned crescent roll (similar to what some people call Pigs in a Blanket). I often ate mine with BBQ.

Try to not think of your tartar sauce as tartar sauce. Instead try to imagine it as a sweet, pickily mayo. It goes good with some sandwiches where you might already add mayo and pickles. Really good with chicken wraps or pitas as well as an American regional dish/sandwich called a spiedie. Good luck and great video.

I’m from Sonora and this is honestly the first time I’ve seen someone use a bolillo! 😂, sonoran hot dog bread is pretty similar to a regular hot dog bun but it’s more soft on the inside and we grill a bit the buns with the residual fat of the bacon instead of steaming them, it’s just add so much flavor! I’m not even going to talk about toppings bc each city has their own preferred ones (there are a ton of memes about this), but one thing we all can agree i think is that the chaos of eating them is part of the experience hahaha Ps: your salsa looked amazing 🤩

Great episode! Speaking of interesting rolls, while at an expo in Switzerland, there was a hot dog stand. The rolls were not split. Instead, they pushed them on a spike, shot mustard down the tube and then inserted the hot dog. So cool and less messy to eat, but hard to put toppings on, obviously. A nearby bagel place makes bagel dogs, like a giant pig in a blanket. Very chewy and satisfying.

Swiss here ;) The spike method is definitely very common, you can even make your own at some supermarkets. But honestly I don't see the advantage of it because all the sauce sits at the bottom so the first 90% of your meal is boring and dry and the last few bites can get reeeally messy... Side note: there are also some christmas markets where you can buy a hollow bread filled with melting hot fondue cheese instead of a sausage - which is delicious but will leave you needing a nap after ;)

As a kid growing up in a poor family, I've eaten many a hot dog with American cheese nestled in regular white bread, though we used to just microwave the hot dog -- bread, cheese, and dog all wrapped in a paper towel. A note on your Tarter Sauce conundrum... Tarter Sauce is great on fries or any type of crispy potato situation (fried, roasted, hashbrown, etc)... and my guess is that it would also be good on any similarly prepared veggie (like carrot fries, crispy plantain, etc)... also, I've used it before as the binder for a cabbage slaw that I used as a topping on fish tacos (so fish was involved, but I would have totally just eaten the slaw on its own, too).

Hi Beryl! I have watched your videos for a while now and never did I expect to see something so close to home. I'm so glad you chose Flo's Hot Dog - it's so tasty and an awesome summer treat that all the locals adore and you totally did it justice in this episode. I hope you get the chance to take a trip up to Maine sometime and get to enjoy one in person!!

We grew up using "hotdog" for the meal, and "wiener" for the ingredients...as in "go get the wieners from the fridge, so we can make some hotdogs!"...and for the record...I've always loved me a hot dog!

Wiener/wienies comes from the German name for Vienna and is what in English would be translated as Vienna sausages. A very very similar sausage comes from the German city of Frankfurt and are called Frankfurters or franks (as in franks and beans). When the USA went to war against Germany in World War I there were attempts to de-Germanize names and that is how we got the Hotdog. There was an attempt to change the name of sauerkraut to liberty cabbage but it failed just like some Americans wanted to change French fries to Freedom fries when there was some anti-French sentiment when France did not support the USA’s war against Iraq. I also knew a girl in school who said that her last name had been changed to Louis with the French pronunciation from the German way because of WWI as well.

Wiener Winks take me back to my school days in Iowa. Yes, Iowa. We were obviously so much closer to Chicago than Pennsylvania. But, with children all having weird food aversions; the Weiner Wink was a lot easier & cheaper for a small school district to produce on their tiny budget than something far more expensive such as the Chicago. Love your channel!❤❤❤

Very fun episode. And I agree 100% about making your own salsa. Sauces in general are often ridiculously expensive to buy prepared, considering how easy they are to make, and how cheap the ingredients often are. I don't have a garden that leads to canning any more, but a trip to a farmer's market does the trick for perfectly ripe, preferably organic, produce.

This is kind of hyperlocal, but a Jersey Shore hot dog is a unique and beautiful thing, especially when it's from Max's in Long Branch or The Windmill in West Long Branch. These griddle-cooked jumbo dogs have a snap and and firmness that is a hot dog lover's delight. And to take it to the next level, try their northern cousin: the Newark-style Italian hot dog, served in a hollowed-out roll with fried onions, peppers, and potatoes. Happy eating!

Quite a few places won't give you ketchup unless you're under the age of 10, or have fries. Since the hot dog is practically a health food with all those veggies, you may as well get the cheese sauce for the fries instead and skip the ketchup altogether.

The Chicago dog was perfect :) , The Sonoran - I don't remember any bolito bun being that huge, it was a chewy crust type that could hold the pintos and fillings. I watched restaurant show a long time ago that featured hot dogs and there was one that fried his hot dogs with potatoes (fries) and served it with ketchup only. We made that one at home with chopping our potatoes homestyle and it was so good! We actually make those frequently when we do hot dogs. Love this episode and I can't wait for an international or another U.S. one
@badsushichef
@badsushichef Жыл бұрын
The bun for a sonoran hot dog should not be chewy, quite the contrary, if you don't eat it fast enough, it can fall apart! They are usually softer than your average hot dog bun! They are usually steamed, then grilled in bacon fat!

A Carolina Dog (can also have the same style on a burger) - typical hot dog and bun - but topped in chili, coleslaw, chopped onions and mustard. The "weiner wings" hot dog reminds me of my preferred hot dog - a cheese dog wrapped in a slice of warmed (but not toasted) wheat bread, instead of a bun. There's just too much bread-to-dog ratio in a regular hot dog, in my opinion!
