As a lefty I have reversed engineered this and have become even more successful. Thank you!

That's some great actionable stuff right there, going to need to practice these 3. Also, finally got my American Judoka shirt, super soft and fits awesome. Love the bulldog with the American flag logo Travis!

I really disagree, using an orthodox grip and attacking the rear leg with a turning throw is asking for a suplex. The first thing people should learn from that position is fighting for the cross collar and outside foot position for Ko Soto Gari and/or the Korean tie and inside foot position for O Uchi Gari, so they can attack the near leg right off of the grip and immediately follow up with a combination.

Bro. You just mirror what Travis did on your left side and there u go. Since most people are right handed so you are at a huge advantage here

Great video, thank you Travis! I really like that osoto variation. One thing i find really hard to do in randori is when the opponent has both his legs a little further back and leans a little slightly forward and you can't reach it for sweeping or attacking his legs. His upper body is strong aswell. If i could reach his legs problem would be solved. What is your tips? Maybe a suggrstion would be to make a video on how to fight against defensive judo players

What works for me is to snap them down and keep moving in 45 degrees angles - they'll either correct their posture (therefore giving you an attack opportunity) or fall to ne-waza and you can also attack them there. Be sure to do foot sweeps and attacks while you're moving him around or you could get a shido.
@TravisStevensgrappling4 жыл бұрын
That’s a great option. You could also attack Uchimata a few times after about two attacks or so they should auto correct
@andrewferris19034 жыл бұрын
If he compromises his posture then you either get an easy over the back grip or a front head lock, from there secure an under hook and then Sumi Gaeshi him.

@@TravisStevensgrappling Yes that are great suggestions. They usually stand upright but leaning forward straight slightly but not bending. I will try the uchi mata and the snap down and see what happens. Which uchi mata variation do you recommend for this situation?

Could you make a video like this but showcasing the best throws if you're left handed? I am left handed and I feel that I struggle with some right handed moves...i want to take advantage of my leftieness. I think that o goshi and sasae tsuri komi ashi are great for lefties but I'd like to know if I'm right or wrong and if there's more.

Sensei, I have an opponent who is lefty, really plants his lead leg down heavy and is a counter fighter. I try to knock the leg back with various ashi waza, usually to get him square to go for uchimata, but if it's not perfect then he will pick me up for ura nage or ushiro goshi. I need more pull and leg power for sure, but any particular strategy you like to use to play with these types?

I know this is pretty old but I thought I’d share my insight as a lefty: it mostly sounds like you just have to get him moving and figure out a quick & smooth combination of throws. One I can think of for you is Uchi Mata to Kouchi Gari. Other throws I can think of that may give him a hard time would be: Osoto Gari (ippon grip), and sode tsurikomi goshi

I’m looking to start Judi classes this week. I’m right handed but my stance is left foot forward because that’s how I stand for boxing and MMA. Can I stick to this left foot forward for judo even though I’m right handed. Or should I just start learning right foot forward even though I want to learn judo for self defense?
@gamingkingdom11462 жыл бұрын
I think it will be dangerous because your right arm is extended but your right leg is back so you will have difficult times balancing yourself. But you should try and find out
