The 1/4" hole was moved to accomodate the IBIS.

you should get the thumb rest as well, they cut part of the edge so that you can access the shutter speed dial easily

I have the Smallrig grip too. Colour coding it silver makes it look part of the camera. Great move. Incidentally you called the shutter release/shutter button a "leaf shutter". Was that a slip of the tongue?

The x100vi has a leaf shutter, so I guess I just called the shutter button that without thinking.

I dunno how I feel about it.. I feel like one hand shooting is harder now.. maybe it’s because I use back button focus

Interesting. I'm the complete opposite. This grip is the best for me personally.

I have the new JJC Grip. After seeing your review, I will return it. I don't want to buy the Smallrig Grip either. //// Why? Pros and cons of both: The grip from JJC is nicer and the fit is better, but the Arcaswiss bottom is unnaturally offset, not centered. With Smallrig, the Arcaswiss plate is in the middle and therefore better and more beautiful. The Grip, on the other hand, is thicker and does have a nice bulky shape. The Smallrig branding is very visibly attached. The one from JJC is more discreet on the base plate and therefore better, it does not destroy the enjoyment and aesthetic experience and feel of the camera, which would be destroyed by a "foreign" logo/branding of . I'm only going to buy the thumb piece.

my thoughts exactly.

The small rig is superb in the field, the grip is soft and it’s really easy to hold. Mine is black on a black VI. Pairing looks good and still fits into my small old Samsonite case. Grip is very cheap and good quality. Second only to my Nisi tapered filter, to make the camera weather resistant, in field usefulness. Substance over style. My backup is the standard Fuji leather case which is fine for things like weddings but very expensive.

Great review! Two questions though, 1: is there any gap between the camera body and the grip? I saw on Amazon people complaining about that. 2: does the silver color of the grip has a bit of golden tint or it's your lighting when you filmed it?
@VideoGizmology7 ай бұрын
It's all silver, no gold. My lighting was warm. There is a gap that you could maybe slip a piece of paper in, but it's not big or noticeable unless you stare closely at it. This doesn't bother me at all, because I barely see it and it doesn't effect the grip in any way for me. But if this severely bothers you, then I guess it's something to consider.

Have you not done any research at all on the VI?..they moved the mount in order to put IBIS..you sounded surprised?..and common sense would tell you by "design" alone..all previous mounts pertaining to the V is not going to fit..bc of the new position...lol except for this Small Rig..which is a cool option..1934 is when FUJI was founded..and hence they have their special addition VI's limited to 1934 pieces..to commemorate the 90th anniversary this year..

In answer to your question, I looked up the specs on Fuji's product website, but did not do a deep dive into why the tripod mount was moved. They don't mention the reason on their product page. I did not know that IBIS can make the tripod mount move locations. I'm glad this is common sense to you, but it's not common sense to me and I'm pretty sure there are more people who do not know this, however I appreciate the information, despite your snarky and dismissive tone. All to be expected though, since this is a KZbin comment section. lol. Cheers.

@@VideoGizmology was not meant to be snarky..sorry if it came off that way..I meant that the tripod mount position..was "common sense" not the IBIS part..if it was moved to a different spot?..logic suggest that the "older spot" would not work or fit?..hence the older V cases/mounts would not work with the updated VI..thats all I meant by that..and I do appreciate you sharing this Small Rig product..its a really good option for people to choose..you showed that it could work with both V and VI's cameras..cheers mate..
