Curious if you still feel the same way and if you compared to Iron Master? What made you pick Pepins?

When I was originally buying these, I couldn't buy an Iron Master set. They had a raffle system set up since stock was selling quickly. I do like how fast the Iron Master are to set up. However, I think Pepin dumbbells are a better value since you can use any plates. I also really like E-coating option at Pepin. It has held up really well compared to my original set.

I ended up going with Baadass as they are so sturdy and have magnetic posts. For back say I create a 130lb dumbell and I have two 10s on the side I can yank them off real fast seconds and continue drop set with 110lbs. They do take some time to load up so ordered some adjustables that go from 8 to 92lbs Trulap.@@bangforbuck

I would say somewhere else. It all depends with shipping from Pepin. But I don't know of another manufacturer that sells stainless steel 1in plates. They sell cast iron plates. I didn't think it would matter much. Look at the CAP 1in plates.

No, the dumbbells warranty doesn't cover abuse by dropping them. I was dropping the first pair pretty aggressively. The new pair is holding up really well though.

@@bangforbuck I see. Btw I see you got the UHMV CNC pads, do they help with the tightening/unscrewing? I have some rubber gaskets that make it flush and tight, but sometimes hard to unscrew

I ran the original pair without the UHMV pads, and sometimes they would screws would get stuck. I haven't had this issue with the new pair with the pads attached. It is the same pair of screws used in the first and second pair. Maybe the pads prevent over tightening. Their main purpose is the prevent metal on metal contact and prevent damage to the plates.

@@bangforbuck thx! I'm getting tired of applying lubricant to the gasket, as it becomes harder to unscrew overtime, but I guess I'll give the pads a try. Would you say the plates sit tight enough, and don't clunk like the powerblocks?

When I workout, the plates don't clunk around. I might have to re-tighten it a bit if they loosen while placing them down.

Baadass dumbbell are better. Way heavier duty than the Pepins. Pepin say you can't drop their dumbbells which is going to happen from time to time even if your careful. That's why I didn't get them. Baadass say you can drop them all you want and after got a pair I can see why. They're built like tanks.

They definitely have a better warranty and I do believe they are slightly more durable. Back when I was first buying dumbbells "Baadass" didn't exist. I went with Pepin again since I was familiar with it and it had an Ecoat option. The finish has held up better than any gym equipment I have. It literally looks brand new. I do want to try the Baadass dumbbells however.

Hi David, thank you for your comment. You shoud know that we don't recommand dropping our dumbbells, however it doesn't mean that they aren't strong. Since more than 1 year, our design has been upgraded and is much more sturdy. We also offer HD series for heavy lifter. You can load up to 175lbs of weight plates per dumbbell( + the handles screws weigh ) which is close to 190lbs total. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me !

I have my Pepin since the very beginning. It's not the latest version with CNC and such, but man those are a piece of art. It's not a perfect product, but very close to be... The knurling is crazy good and it feels like pro dumbbells, but much better. Like David Pepin said, those are crazy strong. Baddass are more like mechanic people that decided to make dumbbells, they are maybe made to be dropped, but I would not rate these over this fact. They seems like a great product, but it's totally different. I doubt they will be in business in 5 years compared to Pepin that is always refining his product, listening to his customers and grow very nicely. Anyway, 99% of the adjustable dumbbells are not meant to be dropped, including the Ironmasters. But don't get me wrong, you can be rough with the Pepin's, it's just not meant to go stupid and do some stupid drop tests. Go to a pro gym and drop their expensive dumbbells for fun, you'll thrown out even if those can take many lifetime of abusing. The problem is not the fact that these can be dropped or not, it's just that the homegym influencers thing make a big deal about the "drop feature". Coop has to do his mea culpa and do a drop test after been caught trying to push ironmaster/powerblock sales claiming that Pepin could not be dropped. Take care of your stuff, and it will last forever and Pepin's is a really solid option.

@@Aquefaque completely agree, drops are dangerous too, I don’t see a lot of pro athletes drop their weights like coup does. Interesting trivia about the mechanic part, David was actually working as a Ford mechanic before the pandemic and rising needs for home gym equipment. It was even mentioned in one of the local news.

Nah... Ironmasters are better...
