Hi Brandon, my only wish was that it went lower to like 5lbs. I use 5lbs (powerblock) handle for lots of stretching exercises even some high rep shoulder exercises. But other than that, these look incredible. I have the ironmasters which i use for heavier sets but I’ll be truthful to go even from 60 to 70lbs i sometimes hesitate because I don’t want to change the pins so I end up just staying at 60lbs which I currently leave them at. I have powerblock that go from 5-50lbs. I didn’t care for the 90lb sets cause it felt unbalanced at the heavy weight when doing say chest press even placing the PBs in their nested rack was sometimes cumbersome. These would be similar I suppose but since they are all steel, it would be less prone to breaking unlike the nuobells. So many choices out there now…..gotta decide lol

Prices mentioned in the video are in Canadian dollars. They're currently $1392 usd for the 2x60lb set + shipping. Shipping to Michigan is $178... so total they're $1571 usd. You can get Powerblock Elite EXPs 5-50 lb with 70 lb expansion set for $558 total including shipping... and you don't need to buy the expansion set up front. The Powerblocks can go between 5 and 70 lbs in 5 lb increments, with an additional 2.5 addition to go to x7.5 lbs but not x2.5 lbs. Bit weird. The Pepins can go between 20 and 60 lbs, so you'll also need to buy separate 5, 10, 15, and 70 lb dumbbells to be equivalent. The Pepins have 5 lb increments but with off balance weighting, although you could buy the expensive add-on plates instead which make them more adjustable than the Powerblocks. Four 1.25lb add-on plates, literally 5 lbs total, costs $78 extra... The 2.5 lb add-on plates, literally 10 lbs total, costs $118 extra. I'm not kidding.... The 2x80lb Pepin set is $1511. Shipping to Michigan is $248 more. Total $1759. That's 10 lbs more weight per dumbbell than the Powerblock Elites with stage 2 expansion, but you can get the stage 3 expansion for another $169 shipped.. and again, you don't need to buy it up front. That still puts the Pepins at 2.4x more expensive with 10 lbs less weight per hand and less adjustability unless you buy the expensive add-on weights. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this is a great quality set, and the compactness, ease of adjustability, grips, and made in NA is certainly worth a premium, but this is one helluva premium. The Powerblocks have slower adjustability, but compactness is similar, and you can get them made in the USA for nearly the same amount of money as the EXPs. The grips and form factor may of the elites may not be as good, but that's up the individual. Hell, you could buy two sets of the Powerblocks and adjust them ahead of time for a drop set, and still save money over the Pepins.

I see a lot of fitness products nowadays that seem to be unjustifiably expensive. This is not one of them. Pepin spinlocks are freaking awesome from personal experience, so an all steel quick adjustable dumbbell from them is unapologetically worth that price in my opinion. The owner is an A1 dude, and Pepin has consistently innovated their products. Like you pointed out, these are built to last and, most importantly, they save a TON of space. Great review Coop!

I was sold on the Snode for a long time, but that plastic mechanism inside just never sat right with me. I just finished watching this video and this is the new dream. It will take a long time before I can afford them, but one day... These are pretty much perfect. I will completely agree with Coup about cutting out notches on the seating plate - that seems like the only thing that Pepin overlooked. Besides that, and the price, these are just gorgeous. Only the slightest gripe with what is otherwise a great, thorough review: say the price at the very start. I'd rather have the proposed value in mind as every category is presented than have to rewind every spec in my head after the fact. Now maybe Pepin requested you do it this way to entice the audience with features first, but I believe in consumer-first practices¹. Regardless, thanks for posting these helpful vids! ¹Semi off-topic rant: At a $2000+ price point, I know even some rich folks out there would hesitate with such an investment, but yeah this is pretty bananas for most consumers, especially in the US with our totally broken cost-of-living. Not to mention that, in my view, getting healthy should be *encouraged and enabled*, not locked behind premium pay walls with expensive equipment, gym memberships, coaches/programs, and healthy food, but I digress.

You mentioned the 5lb increment adjustment as a technicality but one of the upsides to allowing each side's weight to be set separately is that you can create purposeful imbalances. This is fantastic when setting your pinky side heavier to allow your short head bicep muscle to exert more work to suppinate vs a perfectly balanced normal dumbbell which pivots with no resistance.

Not only would your idea be cheaper for consumers but it would also be cheaper for Pepin. This change would mean that Pepin only needs to manufacture one tray which would bring down the total price in manufacturing. One change I would make to you design would be to create interlocking bars (interlock your fingers and then pull them apart so your finger tips remain in contact), with this design you could take the same amount of material and almost double the capacity.

I considered these when thinking about long term durability. I ordered nuobell in the end. I thought as durable as these are they will still eventually rust so potentially won’t last a lifetime anyway. I wanted the true dumbbell feel so took the plunge with nuobell, if durability becomes an issue my next move would be powerblock and I’d just accept the design at that point, the durability plus cost effectiveness vs these ones potentially rusting. So those were my thoughts if anyone’s thinking over the same products.

I love the innovation in the dumbbell space. I find myself initially wanting something new, but I keep coming back to my power block pros (5 to 90 with knurled handle) being the best choice for me. (1) I prefer the cage design. It allows me to hang them from daisy chain straps to create a spotting system and a way to get them into position without risk (presses and cross bench pullovers). Plus, attaching them to weight belt is easy and safe with the cages. (2) Having dual handles is awesome. If I’m using the 5 pound handles for say 25lbs, I have the 10 handles right there for a drop set. (3) The bottom rails are fat enough and comfortable enough for neutral grip pressing, hammer curls and pullovers.

I thought about selling my IronMasters and getting Pepin, but not at $2000 especially since I have 5 -50 lb pairs of dumbbells to go with my Iron Masters.
@maxmeier532 Жыл бұрын
And Ironmasters are what, half the prices of Pepin?
@markhalstead2386 Жыл бұрын
@@maxmeier532 Yes, they are less, but that wasn’t the point. The point is I already own them. Selling would result in adding a lot of money to get Pepin.

I got a 5-40 set and got 2 pairs of cheap loadable dumbbells handles that go from 5-100, and just keep one at 50lbs and the other at 65lbs, when I want to go heavier I just take load the heavier one more. But usually when I got really heavy I use my barbell so it all works out

Not a bad deaign but I want something that does not require carrying the dumbbell back to the block to change weight but can still add weight in a quick fashion, remain compact, and can handle a drop. Still waiting for something to replace my Ironmaster and Bowflex dumbbells. I've already derived a viable concept, but does not seem like the juice is worth the squeeze economically try to run with it.

Best purchase I’ve made for my gym in a long time! I’ve owned all the other big names and these blow the rest away!

Great product! But considering my repetitions on the bench press with 145 lbs dumbbells, I'll stick with my Ironmasters. Thanks to you, Coop, for introducing them to me.

Once they get the price down i would be interested. Being half the price of tonal is a bit bad. Would rather just save for tonal then.

Man $2000 is a tough pill to swallow compared to all the similar adjustable dumbbells. Love me some Pepins though as I have loved the regular ones I bought two years ago. The knurled handle is amazing

This is the first time I'm watching a video on these and as a PowerBlock user, I must say, the functional design is ingenious! Yes, we have to adjust on two sides, but it seems like the benefits outweigh that one thing. Except of course the price.
@abeandmel Жыл бұрын
As long as you have a flat surface these should be able to be adjusted correct? Looks like they have flattish sides. I just use a couple blocks of wood currently for our powerblocks. I don't see the cradles on the site anywhere (only the stands now).

I like having one side heavier for wrist turning bicep work.

Came back here after seeing reppin coming out. These probably became the best overall adjustable dumbbells in the market.

What’s the experience like using lifting straps w/ these dumbbells? I have Power Blocks Sport 9.0 and because the “cage” is so small it’s nearly impossible to use lifting straps in order to do heavy rows, shrugs, farmer’s carries etc.

If only Nuobell went to 120lbs like you’ve mentioned in the video you did of them, adjusting the weights with it is just so seamless

Had me sold till I saw price... $2k for their cheapest pair is wild. To think you can afford a whole vehicle for that price is crazy. Looks like great equipment and well done review, but even if I did get my hands on these, $166 for a 2.5lbs add on plate is beyond me 😂

Video Idea: Bullet proof isolator attached to the coop squat to work with the rhino. I’m about to get the coop squat and I’m curious if the bulletproof can be rigged to work with it, attaching to the rhino and turning from plate loaded to cable.

I love my 90lb power blocks, but if I was to ever upgrade. This would be my choice. I bought the power blocks at the height of the pandemic for $1500 like new.

Bought used 90lb powerblocks with stand for $400. I'm happy with that vs $1800 for 120lb dumbbells lol
@steverapos3904 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, honestly these are too pricey for most. Although they are great, most of the improvements over powerblock are "nice to haves" and not things that are mandatory. This is really for the niche market for stronger guys that need more weight
@dmiller4088 Жыл бұрын
@@steverapos3904yup! These look great and the things better than powerblocks are fantastic. But not something I'd be willing to spend that much more for. Now if you're buying powerblocks brand new, last I checked it was going to be like $1200. The jump to these isn't as bad

Snode AD80 vs Pepin, which is your pick? Snode looks like a regular dumbbell but this one has a cage around, I am not sure if that gets in the way. Also the value for money.
@JBS7551 Жыл бұрын
I have the pepins, the rails arent cage like at all, as they are inline with the handle. They dont get in the way at all!
@paulhummell Жыл бұрын
I would consider the 80lb nuobells and just get the 5 year warranty, thats what i did and i like them alot. Which is funny because originally i had written those off as "cheap chinese plastic bullshit" category. Originally i was wanting heavy reverse spinlocks (baadass, specifically) cause i was looking for dumbbells that had the flat head end to be able to put on your knees for benching, and i liked that they were labeled "indestructible" even though later i seen a vid that showed them being tossed at hip height and they bent at the handle, after one drop. Then the pepin fast series came on the scene and was thinking that was the move even though i hated the cage rails. I was thinking about the cage rails and realized if for some reason my wrist gave out during a heavy bench i could maybe break my arm or some shit with my hand and arm stuck inbetween the handle and the cage, where with a no cage/rails traditional dumbbell design all that would happen is the dumbbell would fall on the floor. I then realized that i could get the 80lb nuobells and have the fastest weight change there is while taking up the least amount of space, and if i wanted to go heavier i could just buy real fixed dumbbells for higher weights. Because realistically thats the time you would actually want a fixed dumbbell and when it would matter the most. VS like an ironmaster failing on you when you have 130lbs in each hand over your head. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
