Hi Pan, have you ever experimented with putting a 5inch backing plate on a 21mm polisher? I see alot of people doing that and claim to make the 21mm a bit more versatile... Although in my opinion it may off throw the balance that the machine is specifically made for maybe...

Thanks Pan. I am a DIYer. I am thinking of a polisher and what appealed to me was Griot's Garage, because of the LIFE TIME warranty. They stand behind there product 100 % and that says a lot about them, and the commitment theymake to their customers. Also, their customer service is right up there too.

For me I was looking for the most bang for your bucks without sacrificing quality Griots is hands down the best. Life time warranty and their customer service is amazing. I own the G8, G9, G15, G21 and the rotary G3 plenty of power on all polishers. And the detachable power cable so you can store away the polisher awesome idea. For the price of one rupes you can get 2 amazing Griots polishers I would start with the G9 and G8 for someone who is starting off.

I just finished polishing and waxing my snow white pearl Optima. I used 3D One hybrid compound and followed that with Gyeon Q2 wax. The polishers I used were my old school Porter Cable 7424XP and Adam's swirl killer mini 12mm LT. Then half way through the job I received the Griot's Garage G9 polisher. I finished polishing and applying the wax with the G9. I have to say I'm really impressed with the G9. The ergonomics of the G9 are great. I attached a five inch backing plate to both the 7424XP and the G9.

I agree with one of the other comments. Griot's G9and G8 are unbeatable and life time guarantee. The detachable cord makes it so easy to switch polishers while detailing and easy to store. The G8 also has a one inch extension and backing plate for tight areas. Three tools in one.

Really appreciate all your videos. Ever since I bought my new car, I've learnt so much about detailing. I'm a DIYer so I've spent quite an exorbitant amount on buying all the equipment, chemicals, products etc required to achieve the best results one can with limited experience. Watching your videos have really helped me buy the right products specific to each job, which has made detailing therapeutic, a pleasure, rather than a chore. I never thought washing and cleaning my car would be fun. Sometimes it takes me 4-5hrs, but the final result is always rewarding.

The $99 dollars Populo dual action polisher does a pretty good job. I had good experience with their cordless dredging machines for unclogging pipes, so when I saw their dual action polisher offered, I had to give it a try. It did not disappoint. In my humble opinion, it performed as good as units costing three times more!

Porter Cable 7424XP still a fantastic all-around value. I have one that’s 17 years old, and is an absolute workhorse. 100% ball and roller bearing construction. A simple Sharpie line on the backing plate can easily show if too much pressure is applied, and the pad stalls until you get a good feel for it.

I looked at the polishers in Pan's new garage. Pricey. Only planning on doing it x times a year....on one car. But I knew Pan would have advice on some budget ones for a first polisher. As having tried so many products on here the only way my navy blue BMW metallic paintwork will get more of a mirror shine is with some machine polishing ....It hardly needs doing with a good prep and some graphene wax currently on but why not just SEE if I can do even better next time around! Pan is now my one stop shop for all detailing advice pretty well...... I have learned more from him than anyone..... and enjoyed listening to the positive gems of information from someone who really knows what they are talking about. Anyway..I am paying attention now...... Here comes the good bits! : )) OK so not such a good performance than the higher need machines......... Hmmmm.. Decisions .. Decisions...

i started detailing in 1992 as a hobby because i was sick of seeing cars and trucks with swirls all over, so i learned to master the rotary polisher and back then 3m made the best 3 step polishing compound system in my opinion, now there is so many on the market that you can go broke trying all the different ones out there lol, i must have 10 to 15 brands that i use still as a hobby not professionally, but i enjoy it. as of now i use the SPTA 5" 15mm (around $110) and a SPTA 3" 10mm DA780S3 and not to long ago just picked up the max shine MO312 mini cordless (on sale for $189 and free shipping) so far i like all of these polishers, i only do maybe 4 to 5 cars a year if that just as a hobby for my family and friends, so far i have no complaints, they get the job done, i feel it's not so much the machine as it is technique and the pads and compounds selection, i neve use the pads that came with the polishers except the max shine kit, i always use the lake country hdo's or the rupes pads, if i was going to do polishing or paint correction as a business i would definitely buy a more professional brand of units, but for what i do they work out great.

As a weekend warrior over the last 25 years I finally picked up a polisher last year. Thankfully I picked something that only needed a light polish to get started and my mother was quite happy with the results for her annual Mother's Day gift. With channels like this one it has helped guide me along the way with techniques and tips that built up confidence with polishing on someone else's vehicle. For now I am rocking the Griot's G9 and hopefully a G8 Mini soon so I can take a deep dive in student mode with paint correction on my daily. Short term goals are detailing a few cars and invest some of that income eventually upgrading to a Rupes and Flex.

Another great video. Thanks Pan! I was thinking of getting a new polisher. I have a 30-year old Porter Cable that works well but is a little on the heavy side. Seeing as I machine polish my car once a year, perhaps I should look for a mini polisher and keep my Porter Cable as my main polisher. Thanks again for your tips.

back in I think 99 or 2000 I got a Porta Cable sander and modified it to be a polisher, that little guy worked great for the final polish following a Rotary buff. funny to see how much has changed in the last 25 years of doing this . @@PanTheOrganizer I bought a new black Nissan 370z about five years ago and shortly afterward had it professionally polished and coated. In doing research to learn the best products and practices to use to properly maintain it, I stumbled across your channel and was immediately impressed with your experience and depth of knowledge in the field, plus your apparent innate sense of curiosity about things. Your polish, pun intended, and sense of ethics were appealing to me, plus a good sense of humor is always a good thing for one to have. I have always admired people who were passionate about their work, or things they were involved in, and that was also obvious about you. I'm glad to see that you've been as successful as you've been in life, something that you've obviously worked at and deserve. As a former college physics instructor, I have always enjoyed the company of others who, like me, enjoy sharing knowledge with others, something you again like to do. Keep up the good work and bon chance mon ami.

This was a very useful video. For me if I were to recommend a polisher it would be Flex. It just is a smoother machine with very high quality parts. My family always told me, “we are too poor to buy anything cheap”. So just save up and buy the proper machine. Thanks Pan I appreciate that you tell us that it’s not a sponsored video. It’s something that tells me your real world testing is what it is. Awesome

I have an original Gen Griots with a 6" back plate; from way back. I then bought a Dewalt Cordless DCM848 (15mm throw) and i love it. It has plenty of power and not having a cord is wonderful. In days past I did a LOT of detailing and buffing when I had a used car store. It was all Sioux, Port Cable and Milwaukee 7" corded rotary polishers. Very, very heavy and commonly used with a wool pad and 3M Super Duty. Boy you had to be carefull. The Griot is going in for repairs and they tell me they'll likely not be able to repair due to its age but will give me a big credit towards a new machine. As I like 15mm throw I will probably go with the G15. If I had to buy a new corded machine it would likely be the 15mm Rupes. FWIW using the Dewalt with a Rupes foam pad and SONAX Ultimate Cut and then SONAX Perfect Finish is like MAGIC.

I started out with a Milwaukee rotary with wool pads when I started buffing and detailing in the late 80s early 90s it served me well for years but the learning curve was high and holograms followed me for the first couple of years. I entered the new century a couple years ago when I picked up the Porter Cable 7424XP on a recommendation from Nick Rutter aka Mckee's 37. I cannot recommend this one enough for a first unit or even a seasoned veteran. It may well be the best bang for the buck. I didn't fully appreciate it until I picked up a Bauer DA from Harbor Freight. While the Bauer does the job all you have to do is start with the Bauer and then switch to the Porter Cable and the quality is evident. The PC is heavier far more solid feeling and the vibrations are reduced dramatically(which is huge for us old guys). I'm in the market for a micro or nano to add to my arsenal. Since Ive opened my own shop last November im finding that I need a smaller unit quite often especially on classic cars, and Jeep Wranglers. Keep up the good work Pan its appreciated!

I have the Rupes Nano Ibrid as well as the LHR15. Both are is so awesome!! I also have the Flex and PC XP7424, but the Rupes takes care of 95% of my needs. Griots Boss is not a bad alternative from what I hear. While a 15-21” DA is always a good staple, I do think you need an additional small DA like the Nano Ibrid for those small or curved areas that the larger just can’t get at.

While researching foam washing products and cannon applicators on KZbin your channel popped up .. I’ve watched lots of your videos and gained a heap of knowledge from a professional in the industry (you) .. it’s changed my initial opinions of what products I needed to look after my ride. Where everyone has a favourite product that they tend to push you give a broad view of multiple products and explain the benefits.. That then gives the viewer a chance to fit to their budget, finish level or expertise.. Most weekend warriors who want that ultimate finish and are prepared to pay find experts like you …

I have a new Subaru, a 9 year old Subaru, and the kids have 11 or 12 year old Civics. I've heard Japanese cars have softer paint, so could I get a recommendation here? Based on my research and experience level (zero), I'd settled on a Griots G9 and the 3D One or Turtle Wax Pro 1 and Done. Would this be a good combo for my specific cars, and do you have any thoughts on pads for softer paint? Thanks again! 🚙
