Aircrete (aerated concrete) has the potential to change the way that the people of the world insulate and build their homes. We have been using our Foam Mate tool since 2018 to build wall panels and create greater efficiency in high heat applications like rocket stoves.
Our current, most exciting project is our Light and Portable Aircrete Rocket Stove. We used this stove in our uninsulated off grid house this winter and this little stove kept us toasty without putting any smoke into the air around our house. It is so well insulated our dogs sleep touching the stove even though the batch box registers up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit when full of coals and wood.
This stove can be manufactured by anyone with a pop-rivet tool and a bag of refractory mix concrete. Go check out our plans! We are so excited to share the book with you. If you want to join us for live streaming of Darwin doing a weekly walk-through of the book join our Patreon! / honeydocarpenter

I put my old bean bag beans in some cement and 5% sand mix and it was about 70 beans by volume and poured a form . I kept it as dry as I could to keep the beans from floating to top and it came out perfect . A 500mm by 500mm panel at 100 thick . It weight around 3.5 kg

So good to see you! ❤️That sawdust additive looks like a winner. I was playing with the idea of making cob walls inside & outside of a pallet & post frame (got the idea from the palatable cobin guy), then pouring aircrete into the space inside the pallets for insulation. This mixture might be just the thing!👍😊

That's sound a super nice idea, i love that kind of palletable Cobin...if you wanna continious with a super nice and natural insulation you can easily use the lightened straw, only poured it straw into a liquid clay solution and let the moisture point at press and drop...you have a win win natural insulation material for fill in or even to make some formwork brick or panel like honey do carperter do here but more lighten, isolation, transpiration, healthy, natural and cost effective...blessings

So similar idea as hemp-crete with foam using different filler and less filler with more cement. OK. I still like steel studs vs wood, would have the OBS on the inside instead of drywall and cement siding on outside or stucco to make it bug and fireproof. Cool video! Thanks.

Well, steel or wooden, they're totally unnecessary. Aircrete can be perfectly load-bearing. Not only it's used in Europe for many decades, it's number one material in many countries. My house from which I'm writing has 300mm thick Xella YTONG aircrete (we call it porocrete, or porous concrete) walls, with 160mm EPS insulation outside and inside and outside is render. That's it, no other load bearing members, no OSB boards, no drywall... Actually, you don't have to necessarily insulate aircrete walls - my friend is finishing a new house and he has deep 500mm walls with just render and it suffices even the stricter code up in the highlands where he lives. And we have very strict code compared to US to start with. However, you need a certified product, to use it as load bearing. I hope some of you guys will finally introduce it to the US market. It deserves it. It's no coincidence aircrete became number one material in so many countries. And it's so easy to make the production process. I've seen a video from "company" in some Asian post-soviet place and they did it with similar foam generator and primitive forms and tools. I bet the nearest Home Depot alternative was tens if not hundreds miles away 😊

Have you considered adding basalt fiber to your aircrete for strength? Can handle high temps so maybe even in rocket stoves? The fibers present in the mix might also improve penetration by waterglass through capillary action. I'm going to do a test stove this winter with it if I can get your waterglass recipe to work for me (I seem to not have the knack for it...its still fighting me lol!)

Honey do, why not try to frame the wall lying down, and then pour the aircrete in the wall, let it cure and stand the whole thing up? Seems like it would save some time and labor. Dan S from Michigan and Texas

Yep, would make sense to do at least 4x8 panels rather than these smaller panels. Mixing in sawdust (aka dustcrete) is good for strength. May as well dump aircrete foam for styrofoam. I've even seen shredded tire used. Much lighter and more flexible than aircrete. The one aspect you lose is hydroponic nature of aircrete.

Yes..yes, yes. I thought the same thing. Its how they pour concrete for warehouses. They lie them flat...build them in layers in a form. One on top of another. Plastic inbetween. Then hoist them into place. For aircrete with horizonal pouring and framing you eliminate the slump factor. Its 4 to 6 inches only . The framing is the form. Build on the slab and hoist it into place. A lever, winch , pully system or a backhoe would be all you need. You would just have to build in sections and possibly reinforce. Chicken wire would possibly be sufficient . Why put the cart before the horse? Half the time framing is already done on a flat slab and then lifted into place anyways . It seems like a no brainer to me. But what do I know?

There is iso chanvre (basically french for hempcrete) - which is hemp fibers used in concrete. iirc there is a bridge that is hundreds of years old that still supports the weight of modern trucks. one of the reasons the hemp works (again iirc) is the higher silica content.

Great Question. From my new understand, Soil for Web, the hardness of the wood material isn't able to be broken down by bacteria, only fungi can do this and not all fungi. So when you seal in the wood material the fungi on it will die as they need air and water to live (just like us) This is why we vacuum seal foods, Are we cool or freeze foods because the bacteria either die or become inactive. This is also why plants die in the winter, Because their support system in the roots die first.

How would I go about making a thick aircrete mix that could be used to trowel onto an existing bare aircrete wall slab ? Would want it to be thick enough so it doesn't just run down the wall but have some hold to grip on when applied. Is this a pipe dream ? Would I have to use paper or tape or something to hold it in place ?

Hy guys ! I ve done this 20 years ago Quick important tips! Spray the ingredients sawdust first and then the foam or same time , decrease the mixer rotation and use lither but bigger plates on the mixer .Try to mix very less the materials ! And wuick pour it ! You can add havy wateron your slurry to harry up the setting time Try doing like i ve mention! I m in a fase of demolished my roof all made 20 years ago using method ive explain ! Will work and last at least 40 years ! Be aware that s not a structural !

You can do "any" shape from aircrete, your only consideration is material properties. The two cases you've mentioned are IMHO unsuitable for aircrete, since it's exposed to elements. It's not like it would fall apart, but the material doesn't like it. My wife and ranch girls are using an aircrete block (Xella YTONG standard simple block remnant from the structural walls of my house, circa 1x1x1.5 ft) for about 10 years as a step for mounting horses, so it's outside on the riding range exposed to elements the whole time and all that happened to it is the corners and edges are rounded with about an inch radius. But still, you should consider it's relatively weak material that should be protected from elements. We use it in Europe for decades to build houses and around here it's actually number one material. But you always put at least a render on top of it. Usually insulation and than render.

Guys, you are making a big mistake by not staying in communication with those that love what you have done, and are doing. You ought to ask volunteers to send you their email address, so when something is happening, you send one email and it goes to all those addresses. It could say--no show today-, or you could give a specific time for the show on Saturday. To just leave everyone hanging is not right. Just look at all the comments today, lots were wondering what happened to you. This is important because what you have is amazing and wonderful, you started something GREAT!!! and then you just disappear, not right. You also said you have a book of all the mixes, for $25. Can't find it. I find Etsy confusing as there are products there that you have nothing to do with. I just don't get you guys. I have wasted so much time hunting for you guys. And where is the video putting the aircrete in the walls of your new house, and winter is almost here. You had mentioned Patreon but it was confusing, not enough info. Love you Guys, it is broken so please fix.

Are those panels bearing any weight in this application or is it purely an insulator?
@bruceh4833
@bruceh4833 Жыл бұрын
Panels don't meet weight bearing code for living places. They probably are fine for multiple "storage sheds" 👀, barns, garages, coops, etc. The lightweight metal studs at the box stores are only good for interior partion walls that aren't supporting anything ... unless it's not going to be lived in or collapse on someone else's property.
@oakld
@oakld 10 ай бұрын
@@bruceh4833Yes, that's the sad part, because aircrete can be perfectly suitable for load bearing. Theremin Europe it's the most popular material in many countries and even small residential apartment buildings (commonly you can see like 4 stories ones) are built from aircrete blocks. The house I've gotten to build about 15 years ago in which I'm sitting ATM has 300mm aircrete walls (from blocks by Ytong). US is waiting for someone to take his/her opportunity and certify a universal load bearing block.
