Best and Worst Cruisers

We bought a 2005 Sea Ray 340 Sundancer earlier this year with the MerCruiser 8.1s with V-drives. Great boat!!

Regardless of its parent company, Cruisers Yacht is a boutique builder and is far superior to Rinker, Maxim, Monterey, Chaparral and Regal which are all mass-produced with mediocre quality. Cobalt is out because they never made an actual cruiser (360 is not a cruiser). I’ve owned most of these brands and do attest to this. Formula is a notch above all - Experienced boat owners will not argue with this. Sea Ray is second to Cruisers Yacht. I’m basing my list purely on build quality, not the holding company. Bear in mind, these are not the best of the best. There are boat builders that blow away all of the aforementioned brands, but they are double or triple the price/ft to purchase.

Thanks your express cruiser ranking you have Rinker at 7 but they stopped making those in June of 2020 but basically it was a bad or non-profitable merger so they were going to shut that plant down anyway.But I digress.Im talking 32 ft. or less.Regal has really stepped their game up in all sizes.

DORAL? I have a 270 sc, its simple but very enjoyable cockpit. Later SeaRay made a model nearly with the same cockpit design

Nice video but you totally forgot about Chris craft boats for the 90s early 2000s they offered so much room for the size like the 32 crowne or 328 express

The people running Sea Ray right now are probably the same people from GM who thought it was a good idea to move Cadillac's headquarters to New York City a few years ago.

Hi Captain. Excellent channel. looking to purchase a family boat to cruise around the NYC Metro area during the summer, then cruise to Miami area for the winters. I may charter it out during the winter for trips to Bahamas. Question is I would like a list of manufacturers based on quality. I have not determined as to type of vessel. Probably between a used trawler, power cat or a cruiser yacht with fly bridge. With so many manufacturers like Galeon, Azimut, Leopard, Aquila, MJM, Back Cove etc… it would be great to have an idea of the quality makers. I would figure size range in the 43-55ft area. Anyone else reading this, I would appreciate your help as well. Thanks in advance…

I haven't seen any new cuddies these days. Usually they are just a small bow cabin based off an open bow. Having owned one, they have less usable space and I went back to an open bow. They also aren't as sought after in the used market vs. a bowrider.

People dont like to spend a weekend in a boat. The most are dayusers.

Depends on where you're from. In my area, it's common for people to spend a day or two, or at least spend the entire day on a boat, or even just sitting in the marina, especially with gas prices as high as they are.

@@cheapme1850 of course, i am refering to the tendency. I love to spend a weekend in my old Doral.... And yes, gas prices are high. In my family the boat is in the same category as traveling. We choose where to spend some money, basically in these " memories generators " boats & traveling

I don't know where you get your information from but obviously your not a boat mechanic and didn't ask boat mechanics there thoughts on your list. SeaRay is the worst fast production cheap built boat on the market. Sure they throw a lot of good hardware at it and are a good looking boat but they are built Cheap Cheap Cheap...

Ok. So give the answer don’t just talk down on his. Chaparral makes a solid boat I know. What’s your take for better than a 30’ 2009 Sundancer around the same price range. You see Bentley makes a better car than ford, but……….

Are you a boat mechanic? I ask because where I'm from, Sea Rays are basically what most surveyors and boat people recommend as overall good boats. As far as actual mechanicals, pretty much everything is either Mercruiser - from Bayliner to Sea Ray to Tiara, with a scattering of Yamaha or old OMC so mechanics are essentially the same. I can't vouch for the newer Sea Rays but there are plenty of old (1976 to mid 80's) running around in very good shape and they hold their value very well.

Didn’t tell us which ones are best and worst. Just rattled off a bunch of brands and showed some sales stats. Not informative at all.

Formula should be top of the list. Their express cruiser designs haven't changed in 30 years. Sea Ray is an okay boat but definitely below cruiser yachts.
