Both lilit the targets speed to 0 both give disadvantage onnattack rolls against the target Pinned winning the grapple can still move 30ft Prone has to spend half of it steep to stand up that is so far what I have found after looking in to grappler feat for 2 weeks ^_^ still if you know how RAW go on the action I would like to know. I would kindly like to plop in a cool chip of info here. Keenmind is excellent for wizards... mostly if and when you loose your book you're still good to go for a month because you can recall it all in flawless detail. Also can help you make a new book.
@flingage4 жыл бұрын
Shiiiit now I'm going to make one broken-ass wizard. Damn I can't believe I didn't think of that. Hell you could literally leave your spellbook behind for any adventure you know will take less than a month, and never risk losing it. The only possible problem would be if you end up gaining a level (and thus one or more spell slots) on that adventure. Just bring an extra, blank 'scratchbook' maybe?

@SaviorOfNirn yeah... but you only need it for enough time to read the pages, then you can return the book.... Times when you can use these is if enemy is wizard you can "I wont kill him/her" and then you take the spellbook if it is with him/her and read the book :D Having Paladin/Cleric/Bard cast zone of truth is important so they tell where the book is if not with them a n d if it is protected by some kind of trap that will destroy the spell book ^_^ few ways DM can work around keen mind -> wizard don't have to carry the spell book with them :D

For higher-level characters (for example, if you maxed out your spellcasting stat before choosing a feat), the proficiency bonus is better than the advantage that War Caster gives. I took Keen Mind because our game features a lot of caves and areas where the characters’ sense of time is screwed with, magically and otherwise. I feel like people misunderstand what Keen Mind can do, especially if you're an illusionist or a conjurer. It gives you savant level photographic memory, among other things. Sentinel + pole arm mastery = opportunity attack on entering a range with reach that stops them in their track outside of their reach. Allowing you to attack for free then move 5 feet away without disengaging cause you aren’t in their reach. The only time someone can actually get close enough to attack is bows spells Spears or if your opportunity attack misses or your reaction is spent from you protecting your allies. AKA, use a spear the way a spear is actually meant to be used and make melee attacks against you so rare that as long as all ranged targets are focused. You will never get hurt ever. All at level 4 cause you are a basic human fighter.

Stumbled on this entirely by accident and I remember my mind just filling with possibilities, bottleneck a 20ft wide corridor, nobody can get past you, it's insane. additionally, if you're a cleric and your dm is super super nice, this'll stack with spirit guardians, pushing the range out even further, I just wish there was some possible way to pick up additional reactions, but I haven't found one yet

And since lets say you hit a wall so the time the force is applyed over is super small. 80kg monk going 1125ft/s -> 343m/s = 27440kgm/s. Thats your momentum. 27440=F* assumed .6 seconds -> 4574N of force on impact. Thats 1027 pounds of force hitting said solid object. Sharpshooter is way stronger than a 7. 600 range that ignores all but full cover is pretty insane. Add in that most dedicated ranger builds can take that -5 hit to therir attack role and not feel it and well, its just a passive +10 damage to all your attacks. Lets a gloomstalker ranger basically do 200+ damage before the enemy can react at level 8. Don't forget the Polearm Master x Sential combo, its insanely OP.

Why play Ranger when you can play a Rogue (Scout) Multiclassed into a Fighter, (Arcane Archer)? Build it right, you get 3 attacks per round, Sneak attack at 5d6 (less than a pure Rogue, more than a Ranger), more skills proficientcies, magic trick arrows, Evasion, movement, etc. And THEN take Sharpshooter! The only thing Rangers get is "Racially Enemy" whitch is a thousand times funnier when you just refer to the ability as "racism".

If you're playing a warlock or illusionist in a game about investigations and solving mysteries then try to haggle with your DM on a way to combo observant, keen mind, and misty visions/silent image. A PC that has all three of those should be able to use their illusions to recreate any room they've been in and re try investigation, perception, or most other intelligence and wisdom skill checks. Or just look for more clues.
@caseyhudson49294 жыл бұрын
If you recreate the room perfectly from memory and thus also created the clues you're trying to find, you have to have already noticed the clue in the first place, therefore invalidating the entire reason for recreating the room. You can't recreate those hidden details if you failed the check to even fathom them in the first place.

Spell Sniper on a Warlock is great because then I take Eldritch Spear and get a range of 600 feet. But if you really want to screw with people, go Wizard, get Spell Sniper, and take the Lore Master school and Melf's Acid Arrow. Now you can blast people from two miles away, and they take half damage even if you miss. But Magic Initiate is my favorite for flavor because it basically turns every first-level spell into a feat.
@themuzzy20205 жыл бұрын
Shield Master is a feat I’ve really taken a liking to. Sure it’s kinda like a poor man’s Evasion, but for a Fighter or a Paladin who potentially already have a super high AC, you now have a defense against your biggest weakness of AoE attacks. Plus you can literally emulate all those pictures of the knight blocking dragon fire with his shield and that’s cool as shit.
@GoodSteve1235 жыл бұрын
Resilient (not "Resiliant") is actually a really great feat for most games. Have a bad score in a common saving throw stat? Well, you get a +1 to that stat and up to a +6 on saving throws with it. But Magic Initiate gets you that sweet eldritch blast that you can't use because you're stunned again.
@wonderiferoustea5 жыл бұрын
Of course you can use it. The DM is the one shooting them, of course.

As a dm and a player, I think Keen Mind is one of the best feats. Because of how it specifies, you don’t know the time of day or what direction is north inherently. As far as I am aware there aren’t rules for even determining the time of day or north. I took it, even when I had a lenient dm because I want to be the character that knows everything. Pair it with changeling and actor and you don’t just look and act like them, you remember every you and anyone else have said and become the perfect spy.
@Rossscow4 жыл бұрын
I like that 5e got rid of that whole feat-tree thing. Although I actually loved the whole building odd miss-match class characters, with 13 str, 13 dex, 13 int to get the ultimate benefit, from PF and 3.5. I think 5e is more friendly to fast character creation and new players. I like the new feats, but agree that there is some (LUCKY) feats that are... unbalanced. But then again, D&D is not a MMO. The DM is there to play god, and say no.

Unfortunately, you can't stack Martial Adept RAW, since it doesn't say you can in the feat. Literally the only feat in the PHB(And I think every other feat in every other book) that says you can take it more than once is Elemental Adept.

I currently have a Dragonborn Wizard with the Sage background and Linguist, seven languages. The homebrew campaign revolves around portals to different planes so his languages experience helps talk to any elementals or celestials we meet, and his regular languages help him find extra spells in spellbooks from most races. Got a new character as backup who is a paladin with the polearm feat and a halberd, great for area denial.

5:02 Mounted Combatant doesn't work too well with medium/small mounts as you only get advantage on enemies smaller than your mount, so it wouldn't be too good with a Mastiff except only against small enemies.

Think mage slayer is underestimated here. On say a rogue it lets you sneak or dash your way to an annoying spellcaster, advantage + evasion dodge any harmful dex save spells, and if they do happen to misty step you hit them with a sneak attack hit as a reaction likely breaking their concentration on some important battle spell.
@jemm1135 жыл бұрын
or give it to monk so that they can stunning strike and potentially stop the enemy's turn after they teleport, allowing you to close in before they can get away (note, of course, that the monk can usually catch up anyways, but this allows the entire party to catch up in max 2 rounds (in a normal battle with a slightly larger battleground), or 1 round most of the time, with the odd straggler having to dash.

My personal favourite use is making a wrestler character that specializes in grappling. It’s fun because mages are scrawny and can’t escape your grapples.

Also, never forget that forcing the mage to use Misty Step to escape from melee leaves the mage with just cantrips for the rest of that turn. This is huge.

War caster is great for druid too. W/Circle of the Moon, you can cast moonbeam or other damage-making concentration spell as an action, bonus action into a bear or harry-nosed wombat, and move. War Cast helps keep that concentration going.

@Ninjat1265 жыл бұрын
My #1 use of magic initiate is to take Wizard and make your spell Find Familiar. Take whatever cantrips you want, but you can never go wrong with Prestidigitation and Minor Illusion. Some may say 'pick Warlock for Eldritch Blast' and that's valid I guess, but the meme-tier occult mg-42 that is Eldritch Blast partially relies on Warlock class features, and without them it's just a better-than-average attack cantrip.

Fun thing about War Caster and Booming Blade: If you use your Opportunity Attack to cast Booming Blade with War Caster, it automatically triggers Booming Blade's damage. At 17th level, that can mean an extra 7d8 damage on your opportunity attack.

You can't stack feats unless it says you can. Which, I believe is just Elemental Adept? So, basically, for Martial Adept; no, you basically just take it on battlemaster, and nothing else. Tough is actually a better feat to take later on in case you notice you haven't been rolling well for your HP every level. It grants +2 HP/level and gets substantially more enticing as you climb in level since it does grant the health retroactively (aka at level 8 it gives you 16 HP).

I’ve got a pair of characters lined up with a dude of mine who’re just real powerful. The idea is a paladin/some sort of tank with the mounted combatant feat, and a centaur monk. Centaur has huge passive speed, so can pull the duo into the heart of the battle, the centaur gains the evasion feature at a lower level (and it stacks with evasion, so a minimum of 1/4 damage), the monk cannot be directly targeted by an attack, or else the paladin takes the hit, and if either of them take damage, pally has healing.
