love the grappleshot but I’ll always be impartial to the trip mine. useless in 99% of scenarios but will absolutely turn the tide when that full gauss hog on standoff comes around for its fifth pass.

When youre surrounded by enemies on all sides, with only a thin few railings of cover, the drop shield is great. Buys you some extra time to regen your HP and shield

Health regen wasn't useful? What are you smoking, that's one of the best equipments in the game. Throw it down in a good position, and it basically takes 3 opponents or a power weapon to kill you.

@@TrueYankeeFan you can, but if you have your regen in a good position, you can very easily see them coming and shoot them long before they can even throw the power drain. And even if they get the opportunity to throw it, the power drain moves pretty slowly, so you will likely have the opportunity to retreat. Plus, there aren't that many power drains that spawn on any of the maps, there's usually only one and they don't spawn very frequently, so there's a good chance the opponents won't even have it. I don't think it's a hard enough counter to make the regen not good.

@@puttputt524 same, I was playing through Halo CE and wanted to grapple constantly. Even still certain things are only possible without the grapple shot. Like the hangar on the truth and reconciliation in Halo CE. Pinned down by jackals on the second floor, dug in well, while also fighting numerous foes fighting you from every angle on your floor. That wouldn't have been as challenging or fun if you could just grapple up to the second floor.

@@jonahpatton8879 Yeah, as much as I love the Grappleshot, I'm glad I'm not the only one who agrees that having such a powerful option at your disposal at all times doesn't _always_ improve the gameplay. My personal biggest gripe is how it completely invalidated almost every single enemy vehicle encounter in the campaign, which I felt like removed a lot of the interesting situations that were present in previous Halo games.

Don’t sleep on the Drop Shield, it has a respectable amount of health and provides healing. Unless your enemies have a vehicle or heavy weapons, they aren’t going dump many rounds into the shield due to it being able to shrug off one blast from a laser

Halo 3 actually had two invisibility equipment. There was Cloaking equipment in Campaign(which was often missed), which was similar to invincibility in functionality, and the active camo pickup in multi-player. But other than that, this was a very informative video. Keep up the great work!

@riohtx7012 Incorrect. Invisibility is simply the state of being unable to be seen or the quality of not being perceivable. Cloaking is an equipment in Halo 3. Once activated, it has the same basic function as active camouflage from the first two games: it renders the user nearly invisible. All you need to do is Google "Halo 3 cloaking" and some of the first few results are links to information about the equipment. However, it is a possibility that game translations in other languages of the cloaking equipment may have been translated to say invisibility. But nonetheless, I'm referring to the English NA copies of the game. As such, I must implore you, please research the topics you are attempting to argue beforehand, as it may yield a better understanding of the falsehoods you are attempting to spread.

People always forget when discussing the Reach Active Camo that it also carries the Radar Jammer functionality built into it. It's a great way to confuse enemies and throw some extra chaos into a firefight.

Hardlight shield is useful for blocking melee and explosives in multiplayer. It served its purpose in multiplayer simply put it no one knew how to use it.

Same with the drop wall in Halo Infinite - though pretty weak against kinetic damage, it can actually fully absorb explosive damage and thus save you from a grenade or rocket launcher. There's even a medal for it - Boom Block.

I use the hardlight shield in my 1v1 loadout for Halo 4 since it's pretty useful to block a grenade or plasma pistol overcharge but it's really only useful in a 1v1 situation since someone could flank you and just kill you, thus why I only use it in 1v1

I disagree with the thumbnail. The reach bubble shield was useful for healing your health. It may not be immune but it heals your health so I find it useful as health kit or a small bit of shielding. So in my opinion, both Halo 3 and Halo Reach's bubble shields are useful if they're used correctly I guess.

I personally love the bubble shield in reach. Thing made legendary solo viable since i had the ability to fall back and recharge health. In invasion i also find it useful in several scenarioes whether attack or defense. Evasion I absolutely love since nothing beats just yeeting yourself around Hologram I find is something that still catches me off guard (since your not expecting it since you know it), especially in bigger team games when you have to kill quick and can't afford the couple second (also shout ouch to the glitch in classic reach that would random shuffle the armor letting you see other pieces). I admitedly also love hologram for messing around and checking out my spartan. Also useful for campaign snipers Invisibility was more a tool for ambush and such, the decoys 8 found actually useful for throwing off exact positokn, also it can delock making it useful to counter sword lunge and needler Just wanted my two cents on less appreciated abilities or less known aspects (reach jetpack still awesome, I believe I can fly)

The halo infinite thruster is great for one on one battles, it's enough for someone with an AR to lose you and let you get the advantage or someone with an energy sword to miss. Easily though it's best use is with the energy sword in close quarters, close that bit of distance the enemy was desperately backpedalling to keep and really make them panic!

The Hardlight Shield was amazing in BTB, you could deflect power weapon and vehicle shots back at people like you do with the Repulsor in Infinite. Once I figured that out it was my go to AA on my BTB loadout. It was less viable in smaller matches, but I mostly played BTB personally

I feel like im the only one who absolutely loved H4's multiayer. I loved the loadouts and bonus ornament drops for doing well etc. And the H4 br was just so good. Ver balanced compared to the dmr. Unlike H5 where the dmr was waaaaay better.

Always loved how the H3 bubble shield kinda made a little arena within the arena, had so many fun encounters trying to dance in and out of there. Always wished you could whip it into the ground like chief does in the trailer though, that could've been cool with the shield wall in infinite too

Halo 3 regen was broken haha. I think people are just to nostalgic towards Halo 3 to see it. I think Halo 4's version of the Regen was a lot more balanced (putting aside the fact that it was an armor ability) in terms of its duration and how quickly it would heal you

That's because equipment isn't important in Halo 3 like it is in Reach and even then odds are the only abilities you'd use in Reach would most likely be: Sprint, Evade, and Jetpack for quicker movement.

@@megaman37456 Hard disagree, in anything other than the MLG playlist in h3 back in the day the players who went for power drains bubble shields and regens as well as camo and OS were the ones winning games most of the time. Halo has always been about using the full extent of the sandbox to your advantage, meaning the more stacked your inventory is at any one time in almost any of the games, the better chance you have of surviving a gunfight.

I always liked Reach's hologram, and I never found that it "stopped working". It was especially fun in team games with friends - make all your armor the same and use holograms extensively, and there are all kinds of wacky individual and group tactics you can use.

Reach Bubbleshield was amazing, the ability to heal you and regen shields was very useful. On the otherhand, drop wall doesn't seem to be worth the time it takes to place, agenced even the AR it doesn't last long enough for you to deal back the damage taken when you were placing it and not shooting

You gotta flick your sight down to deploy the drop wall right. Takes a second from hitting the ground to deploy and a good one can change a fight, but only if you combine it with other tech. Also, if you’re already in a fight, then you’re already not using the drop wall right. Set it up ahead of time or to boom block.

The one time in Halo 4 multiplayer I recall that the Hardlight shield was used effectively was when I was playing a BTB game and both teams decided to focus all of their attention on this one super narrow hallway on the map. The enemy team kept steamrolling us because half of them would form a phalanx with the hardlight shields while the other half of their team would throw grenades over their shield bearing teammates heads.

1:57 well in defense of Halo 2 the flashlight helps to spot invisible enemies easier, you can see the shadow of the invi enemy and a slight visual distortion which usually indicated that there were someone with invisibility, it worked both in campaing and multiplayer, I used to have the flashlight always on just in case, skill which the flashlight retained until Halo 5, in Halo Infinity this sanbox option was completely removed, but in exchange elites with invisibility are much less lethal than in previous Halo games but in multiplayer you are completely at mercy of invisible anemies it is really hard to spot someone with invisibility in Halo infinity.

It wouldn't be so bad if it actually activated when the animation looks like it does rather than immediately. Also, maybe if they decreased the duration a bit. Even in relatively casual play, the bubble shield can be annoying.

@@JustinBA007 the armor lock should have been more EMP based, and less armor based. Not a single person enjoys the fact that you just sit there invincible for 5 seconds. Even using it, I’m usually just delaying my death. If it does help, it’s kind of cheap. The destroying vehicles bit is dope though.

I personally disagree. There's techniques on how to get past it, and it changes the sequence of targeting the enemy, making you try something else to get past them and kill them. It's just my opinion, not like it matters anyways.

Halo 3 Radar Jammer and Flare were awesome for horror, hide and go seek, and some 360 Duck Hunt game modes. Actually used those a massive amount and my friends and I loved them! Just hilarious to yell "FLARE!" at the Duck Hunt Sniper while throwing it into their box.

As a part of the base game, it’s fun how it is. But it would be AMAZING to have a Doom style setup for the abilities for each game, maybe even a sandbox where you can choose from a few of the abilities throughout the games. It would make multiplayer an enjoyable hell ( :D ). It would also be fun as a campaign mechanic

Regeneration field is legit the most op of the halo 3 equipment imo. You say that "you'd regenerate your shield eventually anyways". Sure but peaking out of cover immidiatly with less risk is a big advantage and instantly getting regen made it so you basicly had an overshield equvalent of shields if you did it right. It could even be broken as hell if you put it on a highground and stacked with your team.

The hologram was my favorite suit equipment in Reach, at least in campaign. Sure, the jetpack was really useful in an handful of levels, but to me the ability to make the enemies look somewhere else consistently in battle was the most useful thing ever. Not as good against real people, but I don't play multi-player much anyway.

The Hologram is great, but it’s unlikely to be grabbed because sprint is so much more desirable. All the Reach equipment is awesome though, each one has its own use and makes some awesome custom games. It would be awesome if gametypes could also have edited equipment… so say like you could have armor lock that last half as long but released a huge EMP blast, sprint that makes you move a bit faster but shorter duration, a hologram that can shoot hologram rounds, etc.

Halo 3’s regenerator and Halo Reach’s drop shield are actually both fairly powerful in a large variety of situations. The regenerator makes the window for headshots in Halo 3 tiny, since your shields come back instantly. It also gives you an edge against an opponent without power weapons if you have no cover. The drop shield in Halo Reach is extremely useful for game types that involve defending a specific location, since the mobility trade off isn’t as important. It has a surprising amount of health, and can serve as a portable health pack.

I actually have a really funny story for the Halo 3 Trip Mine. My bros and I were playing a juggernaut variant where the juggernaut only gets slight buffs but their speed is cranked to maximum. I'm charging my brother with a gravity hammer and he throws down a trip mine in hope to blow me up. But I charge through it before it's deployed. Going back in the replay showed that the mine was down when I ran over it, I must've been frame perfect timing between when I ran over it and when it actually activated.

Repulsor is an under rated pick up. Its anti vehicle push it away, anti sword to keep them far enough away to kill (a bit less for hammer). use it on the flag to push it, on the power seeds. Can push enemies off and away from objectives.

It would've been cool if you could pick a movement ability separate to armour abilities. Sprinting would be the default but you could swap it out for another movement based ability like evasion, the grappleshot or a jetpack

I love the health regen. Even on legendary you can throw it down and tank a few brutes if you just barely strafe. I used it on turret cheiftains as well.

Damage boost and speed boost were a thing from ordnance drops of Halo 4, but you only mentioned them in h5

Just wanna say, Drop Shield in Reach is so OP when it comes to Legendary. The shield doesnt last very long, but it buys that few extra seconds and gives some nice regen which is very useful for tanking more shots in a firefight where you cant get a medkit.

I am madly in love with the grappleshot but I gotta throw a bone to the repulsor, an ability that I thought was kinda basic and boring but turns out has TONS of creative uses.

The Halo: Reach active camo is the active camo that Spartan III suits came with. Since every Spartan in Reach, minus Chief and Jorge, were Spartan IIIs, that's why it's the way it is

Hologram still good today cause usually when someone knows where you are, but you don’t know where they are, they jumpy to shoot the first thing and i can see where they shoot from. Lots of good plays with hologram still. It’s slept on

i love spending time figuring ways to make equipment feel useful, like the Flare in Halo 3 gets very under-utilized when it works great to get a jump on an enemy sniper or a team that is bunkered down in a power weapon spawn. The Shield Drain also works great when enemies are close together, or in BTB they're an easily available way to deal with vehicles. The Jammer is a lot more niche, for example in a situation where your team is determined to take a specific route through the map, if you use it while flanking there's a good chance you can catch the enemy team off-guard. The Regen is great to use aggressively, tossing it as you start a shootout with an enemy to have an extra BR shot or two before they can get your shields down for a headshot (and then having a very small window of time before you start healing); again, it's great in BTB and maps with long-range encounters. In Reach, if you roll on certain objects you can gain a lot of speed. Halo 4's Shield can be used to peak around corners in 3rd person, and the Regen has similar upsides to H3, but it recharges so you constantly have the upper hand in BR encounters. Halo Infinite's Drop Wall gives you a chance at a few free hits in an encounter, so it can become somewhat of a reliable defensive option if you deploy it fast enough and can aim while walking back and forth to get behind panels that haven't been shot. Also the Repulsor is S-tier in Fiesta because you can counter Rockets, push away people with Swords and Hammers about to get you, and you can easily traverse maps vertically. The Repulsor is only second to the Grapple because there's nothing more unstoppable than the Grapple/Sword combo.

I used Hardlight shield in Halo 4 for CTF block gunfire and protect the flag carrier. Hardlight and Thrusters are my go to in Halo 4 MP

Loved the Luke intro Also unpopular opinion… I did love armor lock. Getting vehicles to try and splatter you only to destroy them was soooo satisfying. Also if you got stuck in a close quarters fight and needed a second, you could go into armor lock, and everyones natural reaction was to go behind you for an assassination. Except you could flick you camera around 180* and then come out of armor lock facing them and punch/ shotgun them…. And I did that a ton

Haven't played infinite but ngl Im between Active Camo and Hardlight Shield. Both have around the same amount of utility time in multiplayer. My go-to move was baiting around a corner with a dmr or a shotgun, popping camo, then let the rest play out as expected. With the shield, it was really fun to completely stuff Fuel Rod Cannon and launcher users. Its not meant to be used as a shield, more like a parry. You see that sh*t coming your way, tap the button for a sec, and youre still alive with half your shield left to use again if needed.

Now, hold on to your Palomino's there, Luke. The trip mine is very useful; it's best used offensively. Someone arounds a cover and surprises you.. trip mine, just ran out of ammo.. throw a trip mine at them, in a hog, and theres an enemy hog next to you.. throw a trip mine at them.
