here's a good tip , rather than all that adjustment of the valve , just remember what ones where hollow and wait till it runs out and then run it over the hollow tapes , i found this to be way quicker , i love my mudshot ,after 25 years on a angle box , i dread the thought of going back

Great instructional vid. I have been doing dry wall since I was 8 and 59 now. I do not do it anymore full time. Last tine I was on a high production job and this mud runner by Ames was introduced I was impressed because for years we pushed the angle box. I just did a small job and rented Ames. I did not notice a mud flow adjustment behind the angle head. Your work saves lots of time. I hade to clean and pic a bunch and thought I would be better off coating this by hand after all the set up and picking time. I will check this set up out. Thank you

I had a TapeTec Mudrunner, which looks to be the same as what you have here. It was one of the best angle finishing tools ever invented, once you master how to use it. I found using the head like what is used here first and then smooth over with a glazing head, takes seconds to get a perfect internal angle top coated.

@@manwithapan I have a question about the mud shot. What causes the mud to fill in one side of the angle and opposite side showing tape? Also where do you want the mud flow valve to be positioned when running corners? I’m new to using the tool and still trying to adjust to it.

@@fredhughes7569 So you want to be at a 45 degree angle to the angle your finishing. The valve faces forward in the direction you are going. As far as not covering tape. There are a few factors. Could be the angle heads, or could be they were not pressed hard enough with roller when taped to get them glazed fully! I can make another video of it again. I just finished using it yesterday on 10k ft of board.

@@fredhughes7569 Yeah it’s definitely a learning curve. I was fortunate enough when I started my career at 20 years old, I work for a commercial company and the first thing I put in my hands was a bazooka, before I even picked up a pan or knife. I did that for a year and a half and learned all the machines. Then I went to custom homes and they wouldn’t allow me to use the machines so I had to hand finish for about 12 years, then we got too busy and I force the machines back on the custom home Drywall Contractor. Been using them ever since with the exception of jobs at 100 sheets or less. Once they’re learned They are money makers!

Leo! Thanks for the great videos. I purchased a used mudshot and had some trouble with mud coming back out the fill nozzle. Do you think my mud was too thick? I lubed and pumped it up and it just came right back out. I emptied the tube to make sure nothing was jamming the valve open, filled it back up and it did the same thing. Even when I put my angle head on and opened the end a few turns, it still shot right back out.

So I don’t have an answer for that, I was going to say something might be stuck in valve. It may just be a faulty valve. When you push in on it with your pinky. Does it have resistance? Like a spring pushing back.

Great video!! I have a question how can I make the plunger go down easier? Even if I put it on water like you said it’s super hard to pump! Or does it get easier after it wears out?

put 3 in 1 oil down those holes, not water. do it before you use it and after you clean it.

I have a question !! I just recently purchased one and it seems that where the cilinder begins at the top of the handle it's a week spot, it's not very strongly I can we mine has some movement there and it's new , have you notice anything like that ? I saw you using it on the verical corner and it does bends at the joint where the cilinder starts .. I'm disappointed I don't want to return it but I might have to

Just got this setup but with level 5 angle head, but it’s gouging if one side of the corner is already taped, can you adjust that? I do commercial with standups so sometimes there a bevel right beside the corner and to gouges like crazy

I’m not quite following the one side of the corner being taped. Are you rolling your angles and glazing them when you tape them or hand taping them?

@@manwithapan as I said, I do Mostly commercial with standups, so there sometimes ther is a flat a couple inches from the corner, so one side of the angle head is riding on dry compound. Similar to when you cross a flat in the corners on your video

@@tomfairbank4715 okay, so all I can suggest in this case is to get a Columbia or northstar angle head. A lot of times when corners are not square, much like ceiling angles as bevel is on bottom which is like your stand ups, I will open it up more to allow more mud to come out so it kinda pushes the angle head along. I personally have northstar angle heads.

Soap voids mud manufacturers warranty. I used it 25 years ago until a contractor I know was given 11k to refinish a house due to faulty formula.

How long is that mudshot ? Level 5 just came out with a mini shot which is 42 inches long and 60 inches long with the 18 inch handle which is better size in your opinion i usually finish 9foot ceilings and 8 foot ?

And that was my next question is would a shorter mud shot aka mini shot be better for those situations of back of closet doors ? And can you screw an extension handle on your mud shot extension handle so i was wondering if i can buy the minishot level 5 and have 2 extension handle for smaller or taller areas? Does your extension handle have treads in the back for another extension? Sorry so confusing lol

Compared to the mud runner looks way easier, I’m happy with the mud runner until my hand gets wet, tried using gloves found I needed something right around the top twisting the handle works all right.

I had a mudrunner for a long time, it wasn’t my hand slipping that bothered me. It was my forearm that would burn after running 400 sheet houses.

I believe it’s my muscle memory. I don’t always work alone, I have a friend who loved using it very efficiently at that, had some health problems, he loved running the tools hated picking angles, instead I would pick and clean up everything, I actually taught him, now he’s gone, not sure why last two jobs I had a hard time slipping after the second big sheet house getting my technique back, it also feels like my shoulder is just giving up. I may just be getting a little old, injures have been catching up the last two years, it’s also been a very long hot summer. 😂I’m actually finding it very hard to find anyone who actually works. I’m finding a generation of really lazy, looking at the phone.

How are the angles already glazed that much before the mudshot ? I'm more interested in how you get them to look like they're almost finished before using the mudshot ?

I use the northstar bazooka, roller and 2.5” glazer. The trick is to lightly roll out angle to set the tape, then push pretty hard to make sure most of the mud comes out from behind tape. When you glaze, the glazer should glide across the angle and fill bevels as well coat the tape.

Drywall doctor uses one and swears by them....takes lil time to get used too but once you do your flyin....holds more mud so less trips back to pump and less effort to put on the wall.......sometimes people just don't want to learn something new, they are like factory workers, same ol and that's way it is Working fir yourself anything that is quicker, faster, better is a win......even if it's a lil slower in beginning fir learning curve
