Ball comes back with float and doesn't come on to you. As an attacking player you really have to work hard because you have to flat hit at the top of the bounce. If you try to loop or flick you get no dwell in the rubber so less arc is possible, so off the end of the table. If you miss time the flat hit its in the net. Then your confidence goes and it gets worse. Problem i have with this sort of rubber in local leagues is it destroys younger players trying to do the right thing. Just means an attacking player has to be patient and defend more. These guys dont hit big winners because they never initiate anything but its a chore!

Luka Mladenovic plays with the ABS 2. If you see at 12:02 (in the last point) he puts the tip of the racket at 90° to the surface of the table. I saw a player send the ball to his opponent to his right so that he would topspin, then he put the Anti at 135° and when the opponent tried to do a backspin, the ball was thrown at high speed and bounced on the surface of the table (it didn't even touch the net). It is an IMPOSSIBLE ball to return. / The good thing about ABS is that it has a very good effect reversal. The bad thing is that the liquid they put in the rubber at the factory lasts 2 to 3 months.

Luca uses a frictionless anti-spin rubber. In simple terms it reverses spin most of the time (similar to long pimples) but it has sponge so you can hit or push a little quicker with it if you choose to. This style of play has been around for decades (close to the table anti or long pimpled combination bat player). Some choppers also use it as part of their strategy so it's something most players should be familiar with. In this match Simon was not prepared as well as he could have been and the strategy was a little off. The Frenchmen definitely had the skills to win the match. A couple of ways he could have tweaked his approach: Just staying in the rally is not a bad idea, especially at the start of the match when you're not familiar with the rubber and the player but it has the disadvantage of making it easier for your opponent. One strategy is to look to play a really hard attack on the first shot so that Luca's percentages on getting balls back go down. You can't do this on every shot but when you have an opportunity you'll often win more points by playing hard instead of playing safe against this style of player. It was obvious Luca wanted to receive serves with his anti, running around his forehand to do it. Simon could take advantage of that by serving short way over on the forehand side thus opening up the table for a wide attack to the backhand. In rallies Simon could push wide to the backhand side (which would give him a topspin ball back) then look to attack wide to the forehand side forcing Luca to use his forehand giving Simon more regular balls to attack or counterattack against. To be good against this style of play you really need to practice against it regularly. It doesn't take a huge amount or practice to get familiar with playing against it. Kallberg demonstrates how to use this concept of attacking much harder when you get an opportunity in this video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXy6m2hmmL-HmKs

Cai Zhenhua played with anti and reached the men’s singles final at the 1983 Worlds. He later became head coach of the China national team. The 2-color rule was probably introduced due to him. Also, Eric Boggan and Danny Seemiller of the US reached top 20 in the world in the 80’s using anti with their relatively unique grip and twiddling.

I have just started using an Anti-Spin Rubber out of curiosity playing in the the bottom league in the Barnet London league, using an Anti-Spin rubber on my backhand with butterfly Dignics 05 on my forehand on a one piece all wood blade. Most players today have only a slight variant between the backhand and forehand rubbers perhaps one side is a little faster or a little spinner than the other so its easy to get into a rhythm, but with my set up it breaks up their rhythm.The issue my opponents seem to have is simple the absolutely massive spin and speed difference between the two rubbers, it confuses them, and doesn't allow them to get into any sort of rhythm, made even more confusing when i twiddle the rubbers back and forth. That said when i occasional play much higher ranked players 1st or premier division players they destroy me....ho hum, but in my lower less skilful league it works, so far..

Yea I don't get why you have to promote some hate against forms of "ugly" table tennis... People like Luka make the sport more interesting, by bringing in more diversity at the higher levels. And he's not getting cheap wins, but he has genuine skills. Try imitating his playstyle, with twidelling the racket and doing his special motions. It's not easy. So people should be amazed that he's able to reach that level and beat worldclass players (even people like Calderano), while playing with a rubber that has strong disadvantages in our modern form of table tennis. Or I guess just promote people playing the exact same strokes. The game shouldn't be about a beauty contest.

Not at all. Of course he has some skill, he is better than you and me. But he is much worse and less skillful player than Gauzy and Calderano. He beat them once because of weird ass equipment. If they will het used to this crap, there is no way he is beatimg them again
@psytap5719

@@tbumbekov Yea I'm not debating that, but he's still skilled enough to get wins against such top players, even if it's a single win. That is already commendable. What annoys me, is the way the dialogue here works, as if Luka is some form of trash. The guy simply uses more special, weird, equipment, allowed by the ittf, plays well enough to win matches in the 1. Bundesliga. But then he gets shit-talked everywhere, including by the OP of this channel. That's just sad.

Im not promoting hate. It’s my second video about anti spin, and I am fascinated by players who make it pro with this rubber. Of course it takes skill to do this. However, it is less “skillful” than any other player with “normal” rubbers. You gonna have to agree. Why not playing defence then?
@psytap5719
@psytap5719 9 ай бұрын
@@VladTableTennis You're fascinated but you're telling people in the comments that we don't need more of it? That sounds more like a bias against antispin to me. And no, I don't agree that it's a less skillful way to play. With all the twiddeling and with the way that normal playing can abuse the disadvantages of the anti, I'd argue it's harder to reach the same level of playing than with regular rubbers. But at the same time, the person might be more gifted for a certain type of playing, like anti, or full on attack on the table, or half-distance or control, or defence... So that also invalidates the point with "why isn't he just playing pimples?". It's just not the same playing style. Of course Luka is not on the same level as say a Simon Gauzy or a Hugo Calderano, which is clearly shown by his international results, but it makes no sense to say that he's less skillful than people with his rating, who play with normal rubbers.

I agree with your take on it. While it arguably creates a different kind of game and there are less 3 ball, 5 ball attack winners, watching professional players miss high, slow balls because they can't interpret the kind of spin is not a good look for the sport. No one can argue modern table tennis is a highly skilled, fast, athletic sport. Anti loop and long pimples send us back to the ping pong era and should be the sole domain of lower leagues for older players. (I'm an older player having to deal with youngsters but I'm not gonna sell my soul for a win against these kids!)

If you can't deal with this kind of player, you have a hole in your game. Don't blame them for showing up people - look at it as an education. You call this "the sole domain of lower leagues for older players" - so how embarrassing for a younger pro that they can't beat this. Table tennis is a wide game, it's great to see some variety, and I'm pleased you're embarrassed.

He might be one of the best in the world today. There would be players in China who use anti playing in the leagues there so there's a good chance there's someone good or even better. Definitely not the best ever. John Hilton from England won the European championship singles in 1980. Chai Zhenhua played for China and used anti. He was a gold medalist in the 83 world teams beating Waldner that year. He went on to become the Chinese coach. Lo Chen Tsung from Hong Kong made the semi finals of the world singles championships in 1985. There are others.
