TBH, Jason, I didn't think the audio with the Shure mic was so much better. I think I'd always use a lav mic. FCPX syncs automatically too. It's a piece of cake. Great videos by the way.

been using ECM-GZ1M for quite a while now, audio is very dependent on how the pins sits on the hotshoe mount. sometimes I get an audio with missing channel or total garbage audio, its a very sensitive setup, little knocks on the mic and your audio is done and you cant know it until you check the footages on your computer

I wish I saw this 3 years ago when I first got the a5100 because my professor would always take off grade points in my old video production class due to poor audio quality 😭. Oh well, I’ve already come to terms with it and still use it for personal videos, only I have external wind noise mufflers and try to record in quiet areas lol. Great video as usual!

Nice setup! The a5100 is still an underrated camera im my opinion. The Zoom F1-SP is a great and compact external recorder with micro sd aswell and it is so versatile because you can change up the capsules and even connect xlr if you need to. And it costs "only" 199$. I have a question not really regarding this video but can you tell me if the eye af works with the new sigma 56mm? :)

My Sony a6500 Camera is not recording audio via any external Mic 1. I have googled & Checked all possible videos suggesting Audio level adjustment etc but none shows me any option where I can exclusively choose to record via external mic 2. The mics that I tried are: Fifine wireless, BOYA wired one and many other local ones too even - All these mics are working fine with my other cameras & phones and recording perfectly 3. When i record audio via camera then the display bars flicker indicating successful audio recording, but the moment I plug in the external Mic the display bars are at zero for R and L channels. - they do not flicker at all 4. Mine is a new camera bought in Feb 2019 5. Please advise me as it is impacting my work a lot - I am a youtube Vlogger and there is lot of background noise in India so recording via the external mic is a necessity for me

Sweet, I have an a5100 as well but really considering just getting another camera and using my a5100 as a family loaner in case anyone else wants to snap photos. The investment of $300 for something I'd have to sync up and use batteries on would be better invested in a camera with a mic input I think, especially if I also want all the latest features. BUT it is an amazing solution if i want a really better audio on the fly. For now the best solution i have found is to *clear the audio in post* , and it is quite nice ! Here is a video from Cody blue where he epxlain how he gets great audio from the gopro and i've tried this on the a5100, the results are amazing !
