I own the Dual CS 429. I have been very impressed with it, but a friend of mine told me that with a few upgrades you can turn this $800 turntable into a $2000 turntable. So I made two significant upgrades on it. First, I put in very high quality interconnects with Duelund copper. Second, I put on a vintage Stanton 980HZS Cartridge, one of the best moving magnet cartridges ever made. These two upgrades have turned what was an excellent turntable into an extraordinary turntable. The moral of the story is, if the house has good bones (and the Dual has GREAT bones) you can turn it into a castle.

Thorens makes a great automatic turntable also. Take one of the ATs off and put the Thorens on.

Noticed that The Pro-ject is a perfect look-a-like to my Dual TD 170.
@BO-kh1iz
@BO-kh1iz Жыл бұрын
That´s because it is basically a Dual. Pro-ject teamed with the former Dual licensee, which used to produce all Dual models with the label "Made in Germany" (by the way also produced technically identically models for Thorens). All new Dual turntables under the Dual brand are now "Made in China" (doesn´t mean they are bad!).

@@BO-kh1iz Yes, The TD 170 is Thorens, my mistake. This explains why they look so similar, thank you.

The AT-LP3 does NOT have an acrylic platter. How you ever even seen these turntables in person? No? I am not surprised. Thanks for wasting my time.

I would wager ALL of these ( without testing any ) would be far, far better than the BSR / Garard $ 50. units from back in the day.... of course IF budget is a serious concern, don't buy LP's at all. CD's - cheaper ( big box DVD players = $ 75 to start ) and more durable. I'm 73 have a mid 1970's Pioneer full auto still works excel. - THAT is a product. and a pretty new Thorens 103a full auto.

And you would lose the bet. The Japanese and German turntables from back in the day, are being rehabbed and sold for around a thousand dollars. And BTW, Fifty dollars today is the equivalent of around six HUNDRED in today's dollars. The British company BSR DID begin to make audiophile equipment back in the late sixties, as did VM (voice of music). VM's audiophile equipment was branded as BIC. All were better than any of the Chinese crap sold today.

I have Cd's from mid 80's IF I remember the first CD I bought was Dire Straits . sometimes CD's 'crash'. usually light scrubbing with a $15. device cleans em. from NPR , library of congress - 2014 ' this process of bronzing' - eroding the outer layer - was particular to only one plant, from 1988 to '93.....@XZE7

I appologize for disagreeing with your comment I grew up with the bsr's and seen the duals and garrards compared to the newer tt's of automatic design they are not as robust if you look at a bsr of the early seventies the 610,and 810 these are like tanks all metal you can almost compare them to a fine clock a lot of people mistake the bsr's of the latter 70's and 80's thats when they started using plastic platters and plastic parts inside and usually they had the cheap ceramic carts the duals like the 1009 sk like I have has a 5 lb platter everything is like a fine mechanical clock this one is from I believe 1966 and still running it sounds like a clock in action and the earlier garrards like at-60 were also built like a tank built in the latter 60's but not sure all metal its a lab series and still runs fine all of my TT's have stable speed once you adjust them I even have a belt drive early 70's a Dual 1237 fully auto I do not like belt drive but this little guy has impressed me like you said cd's do sound better but I grew up with these guys was always fascinated by how mechanical they are and I buy mostly used records and been pretty lucky finding a lot of them scratch free so I again respectfully will appologize for disagreeing with you just a little bit not too much !!

i think the denon it´s the best all others are not that good ,the Dual it´s nice but comes with a cartridge that i don´t remenber hearing such a bad sound in other, all my life ,Ortofon used to be a brand that meaned QUALITY today is as cheap as the cheapest brands ever ,but the cadenza black it feels like old Ortofon, Pro-Ject is garbage around 1.000€ turntables sound like garbage they lie in their specifications and people don´t know . In reality i listen to records on a 43 years old technics fully automatic(mechanical) direct-drive quatrz engine and the reason why i listen to records having thousands of cds it´s only because most of the Lp´s recorded till the year 2000 were fully analog recorded so the vinyl sounds real not a bad copy of the music recorded like in the cd ,but there are types of music that can be heard on a cd so i buy them but when there are guitars and drums i keep it analog ,if recorded from digital masters ,even better the only problem is the compact disc format that it was developed in the 70´s, it´s past glory ,the dat in the 80´s is digital and incredible good why insist on compacted discs, regards

@@VinylPro Marantz, Dual, and Denon all make turntables in Germany and Japan, as well as in China. Haven't you noticed that some Denon 300F's, for example cost $250.00 and others cost $500.00? Same turntable, right? No. The Cheap ones are made by someone in China. The more expensive ones are made by the actual company whose name is on the label, in a place like Germany or Japan.

A lot of the turntables out there are Chinese trash that aren't even worth taking home. They aren't all that great to begin with, and they only last one or two years. There are versions of Dual, Marantz, and Denon turntables that are made in Germany and Japan. They appear to be identical to the Chinese versions, except that they cost about 30% more, and they don't need to be replaced every couple of years.
