My personal list; 1. Chest supported tbar row 2. Pullovers (I use dumbbell, but the nautilus or pullover machines like said in the video work best. If I had ever used one I would probably have it number 1) 3. Neutral grip lat pulldown 4. Deadlifts 5. Seated shrugging machine.(if you gym has one of these you know how much sitting down, propping your feet against the pad and bracing yourself slightly elevated then shrugging out a set of 20 hard reps with a static hold at the end burns the traps) 6. Unilateral row, I use a chest supported plate loaded machine but dumbbell works good. 7. Barbell row, preferably Yates row variation to really overload the lats

Ryan's advices have led to the most effective exercises I have ever done (and most excruciating), but results speak for themselves. I did calisthenics and bodyweight exercises mostly, but I have found these extra tips of his for these types of exercises to be far more effective and satisfying to me personally than any painful occasions before that in the gym. In the process I took a muscle gain plan from nextleveldiet, and without any additional supplements needed, my muscles started to grow massively over the last two months. The primary muscle targeted in a face pull are the tear delts. A little rhomboid, but mainly rear delts. So it’s a shoulder exercise.
@dj_m193 жыл бұрын
Pull ups aren't a must. Especially for heavier people and those who are weak at them. Much better off doing other exercises than building pull ups. Face pulls aren't for the back really, you're better off doing lat pulldowns for the upper back
@mats79733 жыл бұрын
@@dj_m19 Pull-ups and Lat pulldown are essentially the same exercise, the pull-up targets more muscles however. And Face pulls are for the rear delts, which the other exercises don't primarily target.
@dj_m193 жыл бұрын
@@mats7973 they're not tho? they might target similar muscles, but one's a bodyweight exercise in which you pull yourself to the bar and the lat pulldown is a dead weight exercise in which you pull the weight towards your body. It's also easier for beginners and people who otherwise struggle with pull ups out of many reasons. I personally was never that strong when it came to pull ups (bodyweight exercises in general) and I sure as hell didn't waste time building up my pull ups, instead I used pulldowns to grow my back and progressively overload it. It's also way less taxing on the grip, forearms and biceps which is not the case with pullups. Rear delts aren't part of the back

I struggled with bent over DB rows (it's the only one I could do as I have only a pair of dumbbells and no bench) and even with several cues and tips I just never felt it in my lats. And even when my back was straight instead of feeling anything for the lats it was more like my back asking me "when is this gonna be over?". And on some days, I couldn't tell if I was hip hinging right or how to do it and keep my back straight. Is it fine if I go to your for advice on this? Also I have no mirrors and my camera sucks so how can you tell if your form is correct for bent over DB rows, especially with the hip hinge and straight back?

@@twentyonetortas5921 it helps me when I keep my spine neutral. Sometimes my lower back arches and dips in when I do bent over rows, but I correct this by tilting my pelvis to a neutral position. Pullups (different grips), bent over rows (I prefer the bar out in front of me, perpendicular, and using the V handle thing), seated machine that lets you pull horizontally towards you, reverse flys and lat pulldowns. They work for me.
The plate loaded hammer strength pull over machine which brought back memories of the original Nautilus pull over machine perfectly mimics the technique Ryan uses on v handle pull ups and pull downs, but because you can drive your elbows into the machines pads, the function of the lats to adduct the upper arm down to the sides of the body like when performing a pull up by driving your elbow from a point above your head to the side of your torso. This machine pullover allows you to perfectly mimic this motion with a big stretch followed by a perfect motion where your elbows drive down and into the pads and the weights resists you while you overcome the load through the elbows so the the biceps and forearms provide no weak link. In a smooth motion the lats are thoroughly engaged from start to finish in a fool proof movement pattern and if you already have big lats, nothing is more painful and directly hits the muscles without loading like an isolation exercise. The lats are the strongest upper body muscle besides the traps. Unfortunately they are at the mercy of the arm flexors that will turn far before the lats gave been thoroughly worked. 5-6 tough sets of these and your lats are destroyed. If any exercise gives you more fatigue in the lats alone, give you a better feeling or a bigger pump I would be amazed at how undeveloped your lats must be, because this is easily the most remarkable upper body back exercise I have ever encountered.

You don't need that old-school barbell machine all you need is a regular barbell. Now stick one end against the walls in the corner of the gym and put some plates on the other end and grab the V double handles attachment that you use for upright rows place it under the barbell on the weighted side (obviously) and start rowing.
