BEST Baldur's Gate 3 Characters TIER LIST

Doing an overall ranking of the Best Baldur's Gate 3 characters on a Tier List! This game has some incredible characters with realistic character development. I'll be given some points on each of these: Why I like them and why I think that they belong each category! Some characters are just more fleshed out than others, and I want to talk a little bit about each of these since I think BG3 has some of the best characters I have ever seen in a video game. It's hard not to rank all of the origin characters in the S tier so feel free to leave a comment if you think someone deserves to be there.

Overstacking be damned! Lae'zel is S tier- so happy the Gith are integral to the plot. She's super rough at the beginning, but as you said she is scared. She has great character development, and Devora Wilde's intensity is fantastic. Cheers !

Totally respect that, I wanted to put her S tier but I can see why some people are put off by her at first, but it's a great character design. Devora Wilde did an incredible job!

@@JasonDunna I agree with you that Minthara is the funniest character in the game. She has main character energy in the content and delivery of her lines, but she is also doomed to either be a follower or dead in act 1. It's like she has no guard rails, and has a very strong sense of self-importance. Didn't get her as part of my party until my 3rd playthrough, which was also my first successful honour run. She was a Gloomstalker Assassin, and was the overall MVP of the party... on a neutral good playthrough. Lots of ideological clashing with my MC, but man, did it ever make for good storytelling! Also agree with you that the redeemed Durge story is extremely rewarding!!

Isabel is straight up F tier. Screw her always getting one shot in the Marcus encounter before i even have a chance to move and wiping out Last Light Inn in my honour games.

Gale, Astarion, Karlach, Shadowheart are the characters I believe with not only the most tragic of a story, but also the characters with the most personality, as well. Wyll's kindness towards everyone, he seems like the most stable character, even for being a Warlock, and he doesn't get angry often, his story with Karlach is so sweett too! (Wyll origin I feel always romances Karlach) And Karlach's optimism towards *everything* makes her some life of the party, and really helps the other characters with their very...Depressing stories. Gale's my favourite, mostly because I find him funny, and how he feels like he's an idiot but also the smartest person you've ever met JDSHGJKHSGDKG

It's really cool how much they all tie into the main plot, but you can also go the whole game without any of them 😨 My first playthrough was Shadowheart, Gale, Karlach and it was a good run. Gale has the funniest banter with the other characters too, he's so awkward its funny

Jaheira and Minsc were often on my team in BG2. Haven't used either of them in a fight in BG3 yet. Eventually I will.

You know you’re the main character when one of your endgame dialogues is: “Yes I'm a gatekeeper and a hater. I'm also God's Favorite Princess and the most interesting girl in the world.” I still can’t believe they added that 😂

That feeling you have, is partially correct because .... that's the point of origin characters, that is an interesting spin on companions design in general, that tries to go out of Bioware formula. They are ALL main characters since they could be played as such, that's the whole point. It is intertwining with the main plot, rather than typical going outwards and exploring the world through companions. With this design Astarion, while having an interesting story, is a true “companion”, and the weakest origin - not ties to the main story at all, and obviously doesn't make any sense as a group leader (and in many cases, like goblins-grove wouldn't even get involved and skipped directly to act2 and then to the city, why would he care lol) The main-main character isn't SH btw, it is obviously Dark Urge.

Shart is and always will be my offering to Booal. I literally want to kill her the first time she opens her mouth, her early dialogues are such time wasters, and super annoying character until 2/3 of the game. On my first play through, just about going down to find the Nightsong where she said: Wait- asked her what's up? Then she said: nothing- I asked her to jump in the chasm, never revived her. Praise Booal that he takes such a fine offering. Even when she sort of redeems herself, she's still really annoying for me. I still betray her so I can get rid of her.

Dark Urge is awesome if you've ever wanted to blend The Dark half and Total Recall into an RPG character. I think Halsin is a victim of being added late in development. I don't dislike him, but it really feels like his storyline is over by the time he joins the party. Jahira has some great banter with the player. I can tell the Emperor is well written and executed because of how much I hate him. There will never be a playthrough where I don't horde potions of speed and Chain Lightning scrolls so I can unload so much lightning on him that the red dragon is just collateral damage. :P Rolan, grew on me. He's a dickbag in the first 2 acts, but he kind of redeems himself in act 3 if you make certain choices. During my first playthrough Lorroikan shoved him over a ledge and I was surprised that I was pissed about it. He also sells some good magic items during the part in the game where you can ask him how had he ran into that door.

Well, in the first Halsin should'nt even be a companion, in the beta he was only an npc but people asked for him and still he's a great character

Yeah Halsin feels like there should be more to his character, and when you get to act 3 you get Minsc and Boo who outshine him greatly with his interaction with jaheira Great point on the emperor! I’ll have to give Rolan a chance next playthrough. There’s only enough room for one cocky wizard and that’s Gale

Halsin was always there, he wasn't added late, but he wasn't meant to be a companion. At some point, my guess would be 1,5 before release, maybe 2 years, when people asked for him as a companion, they got him as a companion (that's how EA works).

Orin is S tier. She's completely psycho, and once you start realizing she's been following you in shapeshifted form for a while, it's much more interesting.

Can I just say how much I appreciate that you're literally the only content creator on KZbin who's still super active and makes daily content about Baldur's Gate? I watch pretty much all of your videos. If I could make a small suggestion, it would be fantastic if you could update some of the build videos with better edits. Actually showing the combat and mechanics instead of just talking about them would be awesome. I know it's super time-consuming, but it could really enhance your channel. Hello Khajit do you have wares? Thank you!! I am obsessed with BG3 so I don’t stop making videos on it. I’d like to add combat to the guides but it’s tricky finding a combat encounter that can really showcase just one class. I will see if I can mod anything to make it a bit easier or maybe film something extra and add it in later. I’ve tried and it just ends up being tricky to implement, and then if I miss a spell I have to restart it 😂 but I’m working on something Thank you so much for the compliment, these things keep me going!

Have to say, after playing Wyll's origin, he makes perfect sense as a main character for conventionally good playthrough. I would say he works much better as origin than as companion. Personally, and tierlists are always subjective, I would put Lae'zel S-tier and Wyll A-tier if we're talking characters overall, specifically because she is a much better and fleshed out companion than Wyll (strictly as a companion, his origin I find much better and much more relatable, at least for myself and my guess would be for an average player, than Lae'zel). As a BG1-2 player, where Jaheira is basically the "main" companion, alongside her husband, and probably overall one the best and most unique characters Bioware has ever done, I was sold on this "old" Jaheira in Act3 after meeting her family and visiting her secret hideout she carved for herself. Really underrated, because when players get her party is already fixed, especially with interesting builds for her. Correction on the Thorms, btw. Thisobald is his son, but Malus is his uncle, and overall just much older than other Thorms, he is a Sharran from 900s (one of the notes in House of Healing mentions it), much much older. Gerringothe Thorm is just related to Kethric, not a kid, we don't know how, maybe a cousin. I would say out of all Chosen, which are just "stupid mortals" as presented in the game, Gortash actually is the most evil, it is subtle evil of tyranny and thinking of doing good by commiting vile acts (and we learn his backstory with Raphael, his parents, what he stands for as an Archduke). I wish he didn't share so much space with Orin, tbh.

Yeah I agree, Wyll makes perfect sense to play as, he’s very tried to the plot of the game. Jaheira is legendary as well, so cool that she was very strong in BG2 but it lets her be a believable companion as she has aged when we meet her in Act 2 of BG3. Yeah great point about Gortash sharing too much of the spotlight with Orin. I could totally have moved him up a bit Thanks for watching!

Let’s be clear here. There should be a lot of S tier characters in this game. Dungeons and dragons is mainly about characters in the story the gameplay is all right but it’s not what carries it.

Oh yeah I described in the video how I want to put them all in the S tier but I also have to try and keep it balanced / resemble a bell curve. I agree with you but if I put more in the S tier I would have a ton of comments saying I shouldn’t have! So I tried to keep it balanced as I could. Anyone in A tier could jump up to S tier easily

Roland is easily one of the best minor charecters in the game, his charecter arc is better than most of the Origin charecters and he belongs squarely in S tier. So does Alfira by the way.. atleast she would if we were ranking based on cuteness ^^

@@JasonDunna and i respect yours... i also think yours is very common. Here is the thing though, Rolan is supposed to be an asshole at the start of the game. Only in act 2 when he goes out on a suicide mission to safe his siblings do you find out how brave he truly is, and in act 3 he completes his arc when you defeat leroeccan and he pledges his tower and becomes your ally in the final fight. Thats what makes him so great, he isnt a perfect heroic prince charming- he is an asshole with a good person burried inside, and a hero burried even deeper.

What criteria did you use to rate the list? Integration to the plot? Personality? Character-specific dialogue? Seems the list is subjective to you, rather than objective standards. I mean, character class is irrelevant because Gale is a monk/thief in my current play through because my Tav fills the wizard party role, but I still wanted him in my party because I enjoy his banter.
