Can I keep this outside? I live in Florida
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@StrongTv_Creator, Are you asking if you can keep Ball Pythons outside? Depends on what part of Florida you are in, and what kind of setup you have for them. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's something you really want to try. Seems like a lot of work and risks for a species that can easily be kept indoors year round.

@@BenjaminsExotics what if I kept them in my storm shelter. It’s brick. Maybe out a little window unit? Keep them in racks ??? I live in Daytona beach

Nice video dude. Maybe this will help someone -- when I kept ball pythons in those 41 qt sterilite tubs, my security solution was luggage straps! You can use one or two per tub, across the middle (perpendicular to the length). Super easy, not terribly expensive, never had any issues with escape

Hello. I have my ball pythons in the 16 quart sterilite tubs. They have a smell to them that I've noticed..... idk . Anyway I have 2 hides there and becauze of the 2 hides there looks like there isnt much room in there for them. I feel bad. What can I do? Are they ok.. am I just overreacting, or should I paint the outside to a dark color and remove the hides... or are there some good tubs out there that are black or gray that have a locking lid? I've been looking and it's really hard to find something what I'm looking for.
@BenjaminsExotics4 жыл бұрын
Hey Karebear's Animal House. If you are talking about a baby Ball Python, I recommend keeping the tub as crowded as possible with as many hiding places as possible. If there is too much open space in the enclosure the snake may feel stressed and fail to eat.

@@BenjaminsExotics my snakes are about 6-9 months old. I have 2 hides in there with them plus their water bowl. I feel bad when they c ol me out at night... I feel like they dont have ENOUGH room. They eat great! Matter of fact they seem like they want more food when I feed them.... although the size rodents I feed them should be good... I was thinking of going up to the 28 quart? You were talking about... and just adding more if need be. And their bins are actually 18 quart sterilite. Do you think they are fine in these? Or should I remove one of their hides for.more space? Idk. Lol thanks

How does the heat mat not melt the plastic??? Mine started to smell like smoke 😱
@BenjaminsExotics4 жыл бұрын
@Kat Jones, All heating elements like heat tape and heat mats must be regulated with a quality thermostat. Zoomed and Exo-Terra have some quality thermostats that are very affordable and would work great for your situation.

Benjamin's Exotics thank you. How hot can I set the thermometer thing and not melt the plastic?
@MessengerAgemo4 жыл бұрын
@@katjones4840 I know this has been a long while, but I use jumpstart thermostat, you press and hold the set button and set it for below 330 degrees F (the temperature in which plastic melts) which you really don’t want the heating element getting that hot anyway

I was worried about my tubs lips being too open as well. I was using large butterfly paper clips on each side to hold it on and that worked very well. Although now we find that our timid snake cant actually get through that lip because his head wont fit through without using excessive force, but I think a more tenacious snake might try to get out with success. Thanks for the informational vid!

Would you trust that exact 28 quart with just the 2 clamps to hold a large full size 2000g + adult without worrying about escape? Not worried about needing hides because i found them in solid black. Im thinking a large adult should be fine as it wont need any hides to take up space being in a solid black tub
@BenjaminsExotics4 жыл бұрын
@En1gmatic1, if you are talking about the 32 quart sterilite tub with the blue latching lids shown in the video, then yes I am absolutely confident that it is secure against escape attempts by any Ball Python.
@leitnerryan3 жыл бұрын
Even with with latch on each end you should still use clips or bungee straps to secure the sides. The majority of the tubs I’ve checked out and used myself with the latch on each end tend to have weak corners and sides that can be pushed up by adult and sub adult ball pythons( boa, other pythons as well). I’ve had a few escapes using those Tubs/totes. I’d recommend weathertight storage bins with 4 latches, hefty bins are fairly strong with the 2 latches because of the deeper lip, or regular 2 latch storage bins with bungees, binder clips, luggage straps ect.
@BenjaminsExotics3 жыл бұрын
@leitnerryan, Yes adding attachments for extra security is a great idea. I've never had any of my snakes escape these types of tubs but I'm sure the right animal could pull it off. Especially Colubrids like milk and rat snakes.

Are the 28qt big enough to breed in. I mean pairing together both in that tub or should just use a 48
@BenjaminsExotics5 жыл бұрын
@Brad Nunn, if it is for a small to medium sized female and a small male Ball Python, yes a 28 quart tub is more than big enough to have them paired up in.

I use the iris 44 gallon storage tote from the container store for my adult female. She is my pet so I have the space and she adores the tub. It’s absolutely massive and only $60!
@BenjaminsExotics3 жыл бұрын
@Emily, Those are great tubs and work really good for larger species as well like Blood Pythons. The Container Store has them for like $60+ normally but during the holidays and especially after I have seen them on sale for $30 or less at Home Depot and Walmart, although they will have either the green or red lids instead of the normal clear ones. They're the same thing but with Christmas color lids. Just a tip if you are ever looking for more!

Hell no. No animal should be trapped in a small shitty tub. I also keep snakes but they need way more room than what you give them in those shoe boxes. My male BP´s have 1500mmx800mmx800mm and I wouldn't go for less than that. Don't hoard more animals than you can care properly for.
@BenjaminsExotics4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dane Does. First of all, if your enclosure is indeed the dimensions you described, that would be 5 foot by 2.5 foot, which is not a whole lot bigger than the 41 quart tub shown in the video. Also, you have to understand that we are talking about Ball Pythons, as species that spends a huge amount of time in the wild crammed in small rodent burrows and other underground tunnels that are much smaller than the tubs we use in captivity. I have been keeping Ball Pythons for almost a decade in both tubs and larger enclosures like tanks and terrariums, and I have seen absolutely no difference in their overall well being and enjoyment of life when being kept in a tub as compared to other enclosures. If you have evidence otherwise, please feel free to let me know!
@danedoes85324 жыл бұрын
@@BenjaminsExotics The difference is huge tho.. Mine are often out and about during night time to explore and I'm very sure that climbing branches and wiggling through the plants and such is very beneficial to them! They get exercise and they get to use their bodies as intended. I'm very well aware that they like to jam themselves into small places, but when they aren't, they should be allowed to use their bodies. I'm a firm believer in making captive animal's lives as good as one possibly can.
