I love how Alan didn't reference $10k+ bikes. So many reviewers of "budget" bikes say, "XYZ is a fantastic bike, but it's no Santa Cruz Super Voloce XXX Black Edition." He makes realistic comparisons between features of bikes within the appropriate range. Everyone knows a 1k bike isn't a 10k bike, but we do want to know what we are missing that other bikes close in price offer. Thank you, Alan!

I used to have the old Voodoo Canzo, it was an excellent beginner full-suss for the time, but that was about 5 years ago and it looks like this is the exact same frame, with the outdated geometry and a respray. The fact that the seat tube cannot accept a dropper post speaks to how old the frame design is. It seems like they cut some corners with the spec as well, since the old model came with Maxxis tyres and Shimano deore brakes.

I'm on my third Giant Trance (2) that I've had for 3 or 4 years (my first was £1000 entry model) and was looking into getting another but... having got back into motorcycles have decided that, much like any other popular hobby, customers are being royally ripped off. If you can get a brand spanking new 125cc motorcycle for £2100 (Benelli TNT) which doesn't need forks servicing every 10 hours, has far far far more tech and engineering in its construction, then you really shouldn't be paying more than a couple of grand for a top spec full suss mtb. The V1, V2 and Evo were based on the Polygon Recon from 2014 but with a modified rear end; the rocker linkage became a one-piece design and then the rear axle went from quick release to thru axle on the V2. The latest seems to be a more custom frame but still using the same rear. I guess Polygon are not going to let Calibre use there latest designs as this would weaken their brand but, as they have almost no presence on the UK market, they are happy to develop Calibre's budget, but really good, full suspension bikes. Now Mike Sanderson has gone to Planet X it will be interesting to see if the relationship continues and/or Polygon start developing bikes for Planet X.

weird unpopular opinion of mine: XT 10 speed is better than a GX 12 speed. Hanger alignment is less critical on lower speed bikes so it's easier to tune/stays in tune longer. The consumables (cassette/chain) are much cheaper too and it's pretty significantly lighter. The wider gear range or larger steps between gears aren't a big deal in comparison to those advantages IMO.

Dude, it's perfectly more than good enough for a non experienced mountain biker. Geometry is something you will get to understand after a while and only if you get into mtb deep otherwise, it's perfectly good.

I had a 2015 Voodoo Zobop for my first full-suss, which is the exact same frame as the Canzo but just an older spec. It's an excellent beginner full-susser and more than capable for general trail riding. The only downsides are that you will struggle to get a dropper post to fit the kinked seat tube design and the geometry is quite behind the times since it is basically a 2015 frame resprayed. These are all things that can be overlooked until your riding progresses to the point where you will buy a better bike anyway.

@@superspecky4eyes i have noticed that the standard seat post does not drop down alot, ive been looking into maybe cutting the seat post down, i measure it all up and i could probably chop about 2.5 inches off it safely and still have enough minimum insertion. a dropper post is my next thing but now you have said that i might not be getting one if thats the case

Wholeheartedly disagree with your argument about the drivetrain being limited. Not everyone wants a 1x12. Sometimes less is more. I run box components 1x9 and I'd take the shimano 1x10 over any of the SRAM 1x12 set ups.

There isn't much direct comparison with the Mythique against the Bossnut, and too much praise and reminiscing on the latter. Tell us exactly what makes it so great.
@jamie-kd9tx4 жыл бұрын
The vitus has.. well, bad suspension. The cheaper X fusion stuff really isnt great and suspension is very expensive to upgrade aftermarket so its not feasible to buy £500-600 later. The bossnut has really great RS stuff and although they trade blows here and there, I think the suspension is a major thing. Also intangible things like ride characteristic etc. Even spending more the Triple B obliterates the top spec mythique undeniably. (even though the vrx does have a stiffer fork, the triple b is in a different realm of performance in nearly every other category)

@@asianskywalker 67 degree head angle is what a 130mm trail bike had in 2013, long chainstays (personal preference I guess), and a 442 reach on a large seems "short". It is incredibly well specced for the money though.
