The Boostmonster is running better than ever! I have been upgrading this bike for the past few months and test riding it to make sure it shreds super hard! In this video I am showing you what we all did to this bike and how well it rides now!
The Boostmonster is made from a 2005 Norco A-line Frame, a 2003 Marzocchi Supermonster fork
This bike is very unique and epic, I can't wait to bring this to places like whistler and the North shore in the near future :)

Jo, stoked to see some progress on your super monster build. Did I get you right? You miss support in your damper plattform? Why you didn't just pump it up? Is the Revox not similar to the Swinger? And the Swinger just a 5th Elementh? Don't they both have a shrader valve for the plattform function? Because my Progression Suspension 5th Element is so easy to ramp up. I Just pump the ifp up. The compression helps so I don't need that much springrate.

Mate this is so cool, I cant put into words how much I'm enjoying this series! Thank you so much for making it. I love this era of bikes and the type of riding they were built for and to see a highly skilled rider actually taking them seriously, doing proper analysis and combining new and old parts to make the ultimate big travel bike and then using it on the super gnarly terrain they are meant for is just magnificent to watch. Cant wait to see you put it back to back against the 8inch travel bike, it's going to be really interesting to see the difference and hear your thoughts especially since they both have modern tires and brakes.

You mentioned the rear shock still being too soft still but you rear spring looks to be just tight enough for it not to slap around. You should turn the spring screw in/tight the spring. Making the spring shorter which in turn making it need more force to compress the shock. Not needing to get a heavier spung shock. Hope you try this and find the rear "stiffer".

Hey, I’m really enjoying the trip down memory lane and watching you build a bike with parts I used to dream of in MTB action back in high school! Just a thought, I don’t think you’re ever going to get the most from that fork on an old frame, the short reach and high stack height are just made worse by adding 100mm of extra travel in the front. Have you thought of trying the fork on a modern (ish) dh bike with longer reach and lower bb? Bikes like the Aurum’s come up all the time for not too much cash and I think if you build a more stable platform, you’ll really maximize what that super monster can do. Then you will really have the ultimate DH bike! Keep making the videos, it’s great to follow along!

I’m getting sick of the modern MTB industry, it’s like golf. I wish it was more like the motocross industry (or BMX) where you can ride a relatively old bike and not have many issues. I have had so many issues trying to find 26” tires for my M9 that I’ve actually thought about selling it and getting another bike because of that. I kinda hate MTB, I love riding, I hate the majority of the industry and the loudest members of our community.
@MarvinWestmaas
@MarvinWestmaas 2 жыл бұрын
@@Gehajjs62727 I feel you 100%! I hate the pinkbike video's as well, with their 'budget vs baller' bs it's not budget it's absolute crap they show and it's only to make people feel inferior if they don't shell out for the latest and greatest. Majority of riders aren't limited by their bikes but by their skill level, and won't progress even if they own a 10k bike.
@Gehajjs62727
@Gehajjs62727 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarvinWestmaas Yup, I pretty much hate pink bike in general lol, they can never seem to do stuff properly. especially with those mini series that they make. I saw a kid at a race last year riding a 10k pivot firebird and he wasn't even that good at riding, not saying that you can't have nice stuff but he would be just as fast on a cheap 1000$ old DH bike. Heck, I went riding on my bmx last week and decided to ride a black diamond tech trail on it, I had a smile on my face the entire time. And I hate all the people who say that "(enter racer here) won't win because they are riding a different tire and frame maker that I don't personally like", we seem to have lost the "it's about the rider" part of the sport. Didn't notice a single difference in speed when I went on a demo on a single pivot mullet bike, so I laugh when people blame the bike they have for being slow.
@benclarke4470
@benclarke4470 2 жыл бұрын
@@Gehajjs62727 Yeah, I agree, MTB is all about the ride and having fun! I've been riding a 12 year old Lapierre for the last two years, and that bike's handling made me a far better rider. Just upgraded to something more modern as 26" tyres and suspension spares were becoming hard to find. Now on 29" and it feels like easy mode - had a smile all the way down a black at how the new bike just cruised. Maybe it was just not being worn out, but getting a new bike every decade or so seems like a good investment to me. Pinkbike has an interest in promoting new bikes so I tend to just ignore that content since it's basically just advertising.
@MarvinWestmaas
@MarvinWestmaas 2 жыл бұрын
@@Gehajjs62727 Depending on the trail, I would be scared af to run out of brakes on a bmx lol but if you're sure it can handle it I can imagine it being pure fun. Bit like 'trails' riding instead of trail riding :) Bike handling skills would go through the roof if you're regularly riding yank stuff with 20 inch wheels I bet. Haven't touched a bmx bike myself after spending a couple of days in a hospital after getting a few ribs and my sternum bruised pretty badly. But yeah, thing is it should be all about having fun but I bet there will be more and more people seeing you on that BMX and thinking you're out of place instead of admiring your drive to ride whatever you want wherever you want ( as long as it's within your skill level ).

Bro you should really talk to Craig at Avalanche Suspension, not only is he a legendary suspension genius, but Avalanche makes several coil shocks that fit both those 8”and 9” shock positions. Every shock he sells will be custom valved for you after he talks to you and gets an idea how you want it to ride, the terrain you ride, and built to match your frames leverage ratio. I have known about avalanche for over 20 years and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things from anyone whos ridden their products or had their fork/shock modified by Craig, everyone says it’s a night and day difference and they ride better than any other fork/shock on the market. Not only do they make several shocks of their own that fit for your frame and can be as progressive as you want, but he also makes a speed sensitive damper mod for fox vanilla and manitou revox shocks to get it feeling the way you want it too. I’m sure he could tell you what to do to get the super monster feeling the way you want it to too! Seriously, I think this is the answer to your suspension problems bro! And they sell coil springs too. I know I sound like a hype man for this company but I’m not lol. Check it out! www.avalanchedownhillracing.com Edit: I messaged you on IG about this too

You're doing a good thing here! For the reputation of old tech like that one, by showing what it is able to do when it's build up to its best potential. For the heritage of MTB technology. And even for technological progression, by challenging the virtual upper limit of travel in Mountainbikes. When my Enduro already has 180mm of travel - why aren't there DH-Bikes with significantly more? Why not 250? Taller riders like me can make good use of more travel!

No cons to and old bike, they are still a blast! Other than being able to find stuff for them.

It was a different feeling, the older bikes had smaller wheels with narrow bars - you could really feel being “up on top” ... and remember no dropper posts.

Love how you keep this history bike alive. Still love my modernised Demo 9 though.

Hey Jordan, another variable to play with on the shock would be bump rubbers. You can get them with so many different force-travel curves and you are independent of the spring rate. In car motorsports they are used quite extensively to tune the handling with high downforce cars. Fun project!

I did a similar project in 2010. 2009 Ellsworth frame with fox 40 and Mavic SX wheels. except I built it as a super XC bike that weighed in at 36#. 2.4" Schwalbe folding beads rounded it out for super grip. this bike climbs fantastic and goes down even better.
