I was going to buy a second Twig anyways to keep as a spare. So I just went ahead and got a thorn about 3 weeks ago. The reason why I never got one was because nicks and cuts are a pet peeve of mine and I thought a more aggressive razor would just increase the chance of cuts. Gladly I was wrong. In my opinion the Thorn is exactly the same as the Twig but the shave is about 30-40% closer. Which is really actually needed for one pass. I used a Bolzano blade on 6 days growth one pass with the grain and it was actually the best shave I’ve ever had.

I use both. I agree that even for me if i don't shave in a couple of days I would have used my rockwell with a 5 or 6 plate instead of either of the leaf or Henson. I think the leaf is a little more forgiving as the angle is a bit more forgiving where the henson if you lose the angle it doesn't cut.

Great video and very accurate comparison. You really break razors down well and understand that razors can be different but pretty equal. Truth is you can really love more than one razor, but you only ever really NEED one razor. I would probably crown the Rockwell 6c/s my all time champion razor, but I can't do that due to the blade tab exposure. I don't understand why Rockwell chose to have blade tab exposure, but it was a bad decision. If they ever make the 6c/s cover the tabs I will buy it again. Until then, I can never say it's my favorite. Tabs are a BIG DEAL for head shavers like me. Having those tabs nick your ears, OUCH ! Rockwell, go the extra mile and cover the blade tabs ! Come on !

been using the henson for about 2 weeks now. I am using the mild one but it is phenomenal to learn with. Minimal nicks are great for learning technique without being in too much danger if you do something wrong. Got my CK6 soap, brush, bowl, and blades. Been trying different blades and I hate to say it but more aggressive blades still give me crazy irritation and cuts. I know it comes down to technique (which is pretty bad right now) but the RK blades that came with the Henson give me a BBS shave and have not even nicked me once.

@@OhioShaves Hi, I tried asking this on the wicked edge group on Reddit but my account didn't have enough karma so it was removed. I am using a variety pack to test different blades with my Henson mild. some blades (same brand/blade) last 1 shave and some last 7+ shaves. is that normal in your experience? As an example it has been with Perma Sharp, Astra and RK blades where I have had some last much longer than others.

Good comparison shave. I find that I get a closer shave on my neck if I use my non-dominant hand to stretch the skin a bit tighter. I think cartridge shavers would like the Henson because the shaving angle is built into the head. I agree that for that much growth, the 6S using the R6 plate would have shaved more efficiently.

Yeah, actually it's called the "Leaf Twig," and I own one. I bought my Hensen AL13 when it first came out and ordered it in that military green color...stunning! If you look at the blade reveal, check out how the top cap bends the blade to an almost extreme angle. At first, I thought the blade was going to break, but that's why the Hensen is such a forgiving razor...all that bending ensures that the blade edge is aimed directly at your facial hair. The blades I used back in the 1960s were thicker and stiffer than the blades today, which are very thin and flexible (the reason why you can snap them in two). The only other razor that attacks facial hair as efficiently as the Hensen is a slant razor (there are many, but I like the RazoRock "German" slant best). I only use the Hensen when I have one day's growth. Otherwise, I only use the most aggressive razors I've been able to find. Even on adjustable razors, the first thing I do is crank them up to 6 and shave all three passes that way. Even then, 6 isn't as aggressive as I'd like it to be. I love the Leaf Twig even though it's not as aggressive as I would like. With the right blade, however, the Twig does a surprisingly good job. I also own a Rockwell T2, and I agree with you that the handle is very heavy, but the way I hold it mitigates most problems: I let the bottom of the handle rest on my ring finger and use just my index finger and thumb to maneuver the razor, and I find that it does a terrific BBS job. Other than calling the Twig "Thorn," I enjoyed your review. Keep up the good work!

Picked up the Twig based on your reviews and reading on some forums. First shave went well, but I left a little more hair than I'd like just because I was a bit scared lol. Second time, I tried to get a lot closer and ended up getting a lot of irritation going over areas way more than I should have trying to get the last bit of hair and it just seemed like it wasn't working. Maybe I need a sharper blade? Was using classic German Wilkinson Swords. Felt plenty sharp the first shave but not so much the second. I also struggled finding the right angle. Anyways, just ordered a Henson medium with a bunch of different blades that are known to be very sharp. Looking forward to having both of these on hand to learn for the future.

I went with the Thorn because of the smaller head size and that I use a new blade every shave, which is usually twice a wek. You do have to maintain skin tension and angles more with the Thorn than razors with a tighter gap, but the shaves have been super close with a first pass against the grain and then some touch ups to get it to where I can't feel any stubble.

Which did you like better, + or ++? Is there any benefit to using a more aggressive razor/blade combo on very short stubble? I just shave when i do and beforehand i trim everything down with a philips norelco one blade. Also, which Rockwell 6c plate is most similar to the ++? I believe you said previously that the + was similar to a 2 or 3 plate. Pretty new to wet shaving. Own a leaf twig and king c gillette. Leaf twig probably gave me best shave ever. King c gillette does give me some irritation even though it's supposed to be mild, maybe it's my technique? Idk. I'm planning on getting either a henson or Rockwell 6s next. I am thinking the Rockwell just because it gives me several options to play around with and im not sure yet if id prefer the + or ++ Henson. Btw if you're interested in +++ al13, i believe it's available at shave nation and the razor company. Thanks great shave!

Buy the Rockwell. It’s my favorite because you have so many different options. Henson revised there razors last year. There mild is now the medium and the medium is the aggressive. They still offer the AL-13Ti which is titanium. To my understanding the mild was just not aggressive enough for most people, so that’s why they revision took place. I do need to reach out to you Henson shaving to see if this is correct. Going through their website they do not offer a +++ version anymore. @@OhioShaves Oh boy, just had an amazing shave with a voskhod blade in my king c gillette! I think maybe the key for me is to make sure I clean everything more frequently to reduce irritation because I have very very sensitive skin. Yes, i think i will be purchasing a Rockwell 6s in blue before the Henson. Hope you will be doing a + vs ++ and ++ vs 6c videos. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the reply, David!

Personna med prep and lab blue (comfort coated) are the same blades made in USA. The only difference is that med prep blades are going through an extra sterilization process. All the other personna blades are made in Germany.

Is the angle of the razor handle the same when you use leaf and Hansen razors?
@OhioShaves
@OhioShaves Жыл бұрын
No. It is different
@phillipmossing8712
@phillipmossing8712 7 ай бұрын
If I may give you some advice... you are using your fingers and wrist to make you strokes which are very inconsistent... once you find your angle you have to lock your fingers and wrist and stroke with your elbow... also... you can't compare razors using both hands fairly because your dominant hand will always do a better job.

For some of us who are new here who may have felt like we were really doing well with using creams like Cremo, how big of a difference will you think we will see by jumping to Stirling or other high quality soaps?
@OhioShaves
@OhioShaves Жыл бұрын
It will take your shave to another level. By using a good soap or cream with a brush you are going to have a slicker surface to work with for the razor blade to glide across. It's a complete game changer.

considering the leaf thorn for head shaves. Have you tried it? And did you like it. I use my Merkur 39C for botn and love it. Just a bit time consuming on the head for now, the leaf thorn looks easier. Great vide as allways!

Hello, David, I recently purchased Henson Al 13 ++, the company say to fully tighten the razor handle after putting the blade, do you tighten the handle fully or this can be left a bit looser also, kindly tell and now coming to the razor, I just couldn't find anything so special in Henson as a razor i.e Gillete 7o'clock Sterling razor available over here in India for just Rs 100/- or one US Dollar roughly over the counter in small shops has an old Gillete Tech type head with a minimum blade exposure like Henson is a way better razor as far the shaving quality is concerned, any way wish you all the best and hope you will solve my query, thanks.

Welcome. I actually noticed the same thing on the medium aggression razor. You have to torque it down to get the blade to seat perfectly between the top cap and the base plate. You just confirmed that for me as well. Thank you much. I’m going to bring that up with my next shave using the Henson razors. The mild Henson razor is much easier, it just goes together like it was meant to be. 👍

Hey i know this is an older video so you might have a different technique by now but to solve the problem of that curvature on the half de blade. Instead of snapping it in half. While its still in the package i take regular office sciscors and i cut it in half. And its faster that way in my opinion.
