Like what's going on with TMBH? You can support the show at patreon.com/tmbh if you're into that sort of thing, or you can not do that, which is also cool. Thanks to top TMBH patrons: Frank Phillips, Sarah Sims, Jake Purvis, Paul Vermeulen, Tyler Reed, Damon Easley, and Christian Grover!

Lots of people cannot read. I guess we should just say, keep in the word, as there are podcasts and audio bibles and Church. Not a snub, it's just that we want those who do not read, to understand clearly that it is not a requirement, in order to be saved, as the work Christ finished on the cross was enough, and we are not required to do, or not do anything, as it is by grace alone through faith that we are saved and this is not by works(Eph2:8) lest anyone shopuld boast or brag about it.

You version is great for having many bible translations. It really opens up using it on a tablet. I us an iPad. You can have 2 translations synced at the same time as you read. Some translations have reference buttons to press and can kinda cross reference and you can bookmark and take notes. To me, you version is great for general use and youth students. However, I came across the BLB app on my own recently, Awesome you reviewed it, and it blew my mind! This has so much and it was free! It just lacks some translations and hope they include In the future. The BLB is a great tool! Idk if it has maps but I haven’t come across any on the app, but they do have them on the website and are downloadable. I totally agree with you. I’m from the analog age and digital isn’t as personal as having the word right in front of you and experiencing it with your senses. It does feel way more permanent and holy in physical form. Words that stay.

Love the YouVersion and have been using it for years. The only thing I need it to do that it doesn't is sort my highlights by color. BLB is awesome & I've looked up the Greek during the sermon before the pastor gets to it. When you click on interlinear, I think you actually see reverse interlinear... once you get there, if you click on the word interlinear again, over the translation, you'll see the Greek in the original order & what it was translated to next to that. I use that a lot too. Also love the text commentaries.

You did not give YouVersion the props it deserves! At least in 2020 it's a great resource! But thank you for showing us BLB! I’ve been looking for something exactly like that! I wanted to be able to read different translations side by side. Some translations lose the significance of some words and verses so it’s important to get the Greek and Hebrew versions.

Matt: Your videos are engaging and informative. Keep them up. You really should explore the Blue Letter Bible app functions more deeply. The BLB search function (Boolean) alone is POWERFUL, fast, highly customizable and better than ANY “exhaustive” Concordance or any other Bible app that I’ve seen. Check out the notebook, highlighting and bookmark features, all customizable. BLB is best used/experienced on an iPad and then copied to your iPhone thru the iCloud backup feature. And it’s F-R-E-E, but if you use it a lot, consider donating thru the app or on their website, which contains even more tools not (yet) in the app.

I love my physical study Bibles, but I find having a good Bible app is quite handy when I'm out and about, having a conversation with someone and I need to find a specific verse. I don't want to lug around my physical books for multiple reasons (they're heavy, they kind of need a tabletop to be used which I usually don't have in the contexts I use the apps in, and I find that books tend to get get ruined and have pages crumpled when I put them in my bag, and I really don't want that to happen to my Bibles).

How did you miss the Olive Tree app??!! I'm a 20+ year user and you can't beat its versatility. I began purchasing resources while using a Palm Pilot in the 1990s and have been able to bring them over to ever device I've had since. Powerful note-taking functionality, which syncs to all your other devices. Another advantage is that all your resources (or as many as you'd like) are available to you offline.

BLB (website) is awesome and YouVersion is great because you can highlight like crazy in any colors you wish. Then on the YouVersion website, you can dual-column parallel translations next to each other. BLB's awesome twin brother is BibleHub (best for comparing a squillion translations verse-by-verse at once)-I use both of them equally when diving back into the original languages. the other best one I've found is... Google! If all you remember is a piece of a verse, Google it, maybe throw an asterisk in there in the place of a word you forgot and you'll find that verse in no time.

I would check that. The Study Bible app is an amazing study Bible with great commentary. It takes a one-time $4.99 fee for the in-depth commentary, but it is SO worth it! Again, doubl check on where you got the app from. That just doesn't sound right there.

A lot of people at my church are into the Olive tree app but I just couldn't bring myself to put money into buying any of the books on it. YouVersion is actually more similar to the first one you showed. I've been using that for a while. They have a Huge range of plans but it's true it's more devotional style, though some are sort of study style. YouVersion does offer a LOT of versions though, in a massive range of languages and they do compare so if that's what you want then it's cool. What I like is you can also connect with friends and do plans together and share milestones and stuff. I like that esp right now whilst we're more isolated. (I've also never seen an add or been asked for money.) That fourth one might want access to pics for reasons similar to YouVersion. For that you can create screenshots of verses with backgrounds and save them. It would need access for that.

A great Bible app that I have been using the last couple of years is the free app MySword. Haven't tried BLB yet (I might after this video), but what makes it better than something like Youversion is firstly all the study tools (Dictionaries, Commentaries, maps, Lexicons, Cross-references, multiple translations and ability to compare them, Interlinear versions for both Hebrew and Greek, Strong's numbers, equivalent of Greek and Hebrew concordance with Strong lexicon, etc.), secondly the search functionally (I can find any Scripture that I only half remember or do a Topical Study based on keyword search), thirdly that once you download the modules they are on your phone and you don't need a constant internet connection to read the Bible (advanced users can also convert modules from e-sword or The Word to use on app using online tools or you can download from the community). Also there are features like being able to copy a verse range and using your phone's text-to-speech to read the Bible to you and the interface is pretty user friendly (if the user interface was more friendly and easy to use I might have used MyBible instead, but I like and can navigate MySword easily and it's very customizable although a few features are reserved for deluxe users).

e-sword is by far the most useful and easy to navigate, especially for the Strong’s & cross-referencing accessibility as well as its search function allowing you to look up and compare quickly all uses of the original Greek & Hebrew. It’s not flashy but it’s hugely practical, and very fast. I like Olive Tree for its Reading Plans, as well as its notes & tagging functions, and Bible Gateway for its audio Bible plus its ease of copy and paste functions

E-sword has an incredible app that even syncs your notes across devices and computers. Also, probably has the most free resources. Been using it in some way shape or form since the 90s! Also, Logos is incredible for serious in-depth study of scripture but there are a couple things to buy with that software. I spent some money with them years ago and have been enjoying the apps on phones and tablets ever since. Hadn’t heard of BLB so I downloaded it and am anxious to try it out! Thanks!

I use Youversion, BLB and the Grace to You Study Bible. I use Youversion for reading plans, BLB for the concordance and commentaries and the Grace to You Bible because I own a hard copy of the MacArthur study Bible and it's nice to have if I don't have access to my hard copy. Plus the Grace to you Bible has pretty much every sermon from John MacArthur.

I agree with you & do the same. I was recommended the BLB after a learning experience with Titus 2:5, my youth pastor set me straight bc he has Greek resources from going through seminary. I asked him where I could get Kione Greek resources, that was when he told me about BLB.

I use MyBible - it has many translations in czech (idk much about English translations, but it has like 190 translations). It can split screen for different translations. It also has some advanced stuff, but i don't use it. It seams like it's similar to blue letter one

I use e-Sword mostly. Unfortunately they have separate version but I loved it so much when I used it on my dad's PC years ago so I bought it for my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Great amount of included content. I also bought the Amplified Bible module. I also use the open source CrossWire clients, I have Eloquent on Mac and PocketSword on iOS. I also used MySword when I had an Android tablet, the first one to support truly interlinear view on mobile. Also really easy to view definitions and grammatical explanations. Crosswire also has HUGE repositories and great resources. Of course I have YouVersion's Bible App and BibleGateway for more languages. But YouVersion's app is really heavy, and after 20+ translations downloaded it's starting to lag so much. I also use NET's Lumina, which is obviously restricted to Lumina, but it's very well designed app and it's really easy to read ALL NET's footnotes. I also have Blue Letter Bible and BibleHub apps. But they are dependent on internet connection. Also for some of these apps, the iOS and Android versions look different. So that's a consideration. And of course, Logos app and Accordance are also pretty popular among "experts" like James White

Definitely not Matt's mom here... I like the BLB, specifically for checking out the interlinear version and going back to the greek. So many verses have a different or stronger meaning. For example, John 21: 15-17 where Jesus asks Peter if he loves him 3 times. In modern translation, it's just kind of a weird story, but in the greek Jesus uses a few forms of love, and Peter only responds with one. Interesting to dig into.

If the app needs to be able to store information locally, then it needs that permission. It is a badly worded permission request.
