Lazy susans have been around forever because a good susan properly installed is still the most elegant and cost-effective use of a difficult space. I tell my kitchen clients: "There are no *good* blind corner cabinet solutions. You may choose from a list of increasingly bad and expensive blind corner cabinet solutions." Half-moon, peanut or figure-8 shelves sacrifice 50% of the cabinet volume, and they are just as likely to dump stuff as a susan is. Shuttling baskets require six actions to deploy. This hardware can run up to $1500. A full round susan is accessible with a 9" wide diagonal door; a pie cut susan with double-hinged door is superbly functional. Either costs about $100 per cabinet for polymer shelves, $200 for wood (plywood, and yuck) shelves. As Jo notes below, back access is the best solution to a peninsula corner cabinet. You can create a pullout on heavy slides if under a bar overhang, so you don't need to crawl. As Jo says, these spaces are great for occasional dishes & serving trays, table linens, and rarely-used gear like chafing dishes.

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better kzbin.infoUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

Or that could be some mini office drawers, or a drop zone/charging station from the other side. I look at my corners and know I can do better things with them from the other side of the cabinetry, not use them for the kitchen at all! One backs onto the dining room, and the other the main entry to my condo. So glad designers like you are starting to be more flexible and less precious about dedicated kitchen functions for those voids.

Hi Sheila! Thanks for watching!! I’m happy to hear you are enjoying the videos ☺️ I suggest using a square wall corner cabinet. These days it will have a double hinged door almost like a lazy Susan and you will be able to see & access the full cabinet. I hope this helps!! ☺️

Hi! Love all your videos! Thank you very much for sharing. In general, by adding more drawers to the kitchen cabinets is more expensive than doors?
@TheMaterialBar
@TheMaterialBar 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarel! Thanks for watching! Yes, in general drawer boxes are more expensive than standard boxes with doors since the drawer hardware for the guides is more spendy and it's just more work in the factory. Don't forget though how much more functional drawers are, so maybe worth it for your kitchen?? Good luck and take care!

If it was like a Peninsula area, personally I would ignore the corner from the inside of the kitchen, use up the most space on the adjacent cabinets and then add a cabinet accessed from the overhang side for storage.

Wow! These are great solutions ! I have one corner in my kitchen design and builder suggested to place the sink there. What are your thoughts?
@TheMaterialBar
@TheMaterialBar 3 жыл бұрын
If you end up with the sink very close to the corner you may not be able to utilize the corner at all. I've did a few kitchens with the sink in the corner and sometimes the layout will not give you another option. I don't thinks it's an ideal spot as you are limited with the size of your sink. The larger you want it the further it has to sit back in the cabinet and / or you'll have to cut into your cabinets.

Help! I’ve been banging my head trying to figure something out. My corner cab has my sink. Ergo I keep cleaning products under it. But it’s always getting messed up. I had created boxes for organizing in the interim. But I need something! The cupboard door is angled as well. It’s a really big cupboard. I want to use as much of it as I can. I worry a standard lady Suzanne won’t be good to push up into my sink and the bottom of the cupboard. I like the pull out idea but is there a way to have a pull out on each side? I can’t really fit 2 layers of cleaning products due to their heights and clashing with the sink. They can fit around it but not under. Hoping you have advice.
@TheMaterialBar
@TheMaterialBar 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shannon!! Thanks for watching and leaving your comment. I also store quick reach cleaning products under my sink, well let me correct that...my husband because he's the chef in our kitchen - HA! I like to first cut in a sink liner as it helps prevent keeping my cabinet bottom protected from liquid. Not just in the event my plumbing should ever give up but also from cleaning bottles cleaning. In every sink base I've ever had I have a sink liner like this installed first: www.amazon.com/Resilia-Diamond-Plate-Under-Black/dp/B07G59DVRX/ref=sr_1_20?crid=E5QNWR2TA69K&keywords=sink%2Bcabinet%2Bliner&qid=1655875722&sprefix=sink%2Bcabinet%2Bliner%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-20&th=1 And then I have at least one of the cleaning pull out organizers installed on top of it. Keeps the sink liner nice in place and I love pulling items out towards myself. These organizers have a smaller top tray to help keep clearance for your plumbing: www.amazon.com/Under-Cabinet-Organizer-Tksrn-Basket/dp/B08S7BFH8W/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=sink%2Bcabinet%2Borganizer&qid=1655875804&sprefix=sink%2Bcabinet%2B%2Caps%2C135&sr=8-2-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExNUxMT1hBV05RVTdGJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzA4NDA0MkJKUjlFODZLMTY1SCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzY1MDMzMlRQME1FOFdSRE9TOCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 It's always important to measure the clearance space you have in your current sink base though to make sure everything will fit. I hope this helps and thanks so much for watching!! Kerstin

You know it's a bit tricky...you end up loosing a lot of space surrounding a diagonal tall unit sitting in a corner. I know most designers usually shy away from it. Hey Tamara, thanks for tuning in!! Not having a corner base at all, or "VOIDING" the corner is also an option and will give you more room for larger cabinets on both sides of the corner. I have used cabinets that have only two shelves inside. The door has a piano hinge and opens wide. I found the cabinets good for large items. I also have used them for upper corners.When you have a piano hinge on the door you have great access to the cabinet. I really hate the lazy susan cabinets and the uppers with the angled fronts.
