Great analysis! Actually, one of the biggest takeaways from this lesson isn't so much about the theory, but how when writing solos (or in this case, a blues song ending) we don't have to be limited to what key the song is in, or what scale/mode works best - but that is the framework around which the notes can be used to add colour and context. (After years of learning scales and theory that is something which is a lot easier said that done!)

A great observation! The most effective way I have found to “thinking bigger” is get my students to abandon all scales, and think about music. Scales are not solos and yet everyone carries the idea that in order to solos, you need to learn a scale.
