Update April, 24, 2022: The tripod still works fine, but I tried the monopod feature and it fell apart after 1 use lol. It's the part at the bottom where you can hook something heavy underneath the tripod to keep it stable. That part is glued in place, and came off easily. It's very cheaply made. Back on the farm we had a three legged dog. We called him tripod. Strapped a Kodak Brownie onto him. Photos were a tad blurry. Printed to B&W. Abstract impressionistic. Ended up in an art exhibit in Uzbekistan. Sadly tripod went to bipod then monopod. A grave stone marks his final resting spot. On the cairn are the words “Stumped in the End”.

The Benro Aero S2 is the travel tripod to get. It has a fluid video head with a handle for smooth pans, rubber feet and spikes, turns into a mono pod, has a leveling head, its not flimsy, and has a hook in the center if you want to hang some weight on the bottom of the center column, and it has latches instead of twist locks. They make an S4 and S6 if you want a bigger one, but the S2 is the travel tripod. About $180 US $15,000 Canadian.

Been looking for a nice tripod, one of my issues are always the heads. I prefer a ball head with a locking plate, instead of the flash/light tripod style plates where you slide it in and tighten a screw. Do you know if these Aero tripods from Benro have anything like that? I noticed the aero 2 is also more of a video tripod with an extension arm.

I have the Peak Design tripod (carbon) which I got during the kickstarter for around C$600. Honestly, it's not perfect, but I love using it in comparison to travel tripods like the K&F one here. The main reason is it deploys more easily and quickly in comparison to conventional tripods which require the legs to be inverted in the stowed configuration. Full marks to PD for thinking outside of the box.

@@juanselobo I still use it pretty regularly, often without a head, there are cheap manfrotto style plates and clamps that I will screw directly to the legs. Quite often there is little need for any tilt and you can use the centre column if you need to pan. I also use gimbals which can place a camera anywhere. Being well balanced is always best. Carbon fibre is very light and strong, having large diameter legs gives good stability.

That's what I thought, until a foot broke off. And that was the aluminum model. So now I can only extend it for two segments (the leg with no foot is retracted and I can't get it out) and it's basically useless. I'm never going that lightweight again.
