FYI...Koss is NOT an off brand! They've been around since the 50s and are the inventors of Stsreophones! Their headphones were once found in every radio station in the country! A legendary company (located in my hometown of Milwaukee!).

Koss has been making these for decades, for RadioShack under the Optimus brand and then under the Koss brand. In the 1990s they made the same great neodymium drivers with titanium-layered diaphragm headphone modules as the RadioShack Optimus PRO-25 and they were black with metal/leatherette headbands and an 8 foot cord. Then RadioShack replaced them with the Optimus PRO 35 which looked more similar to the PRO-25 with the same drivers, black frame, and metal/leatherette headband. Next was the RadioShack PRO 35A which were the exact same gray headphones that Koss now makes as the KTX Pro1. The RadioShack PRO 35A had a little lower build quality than the ones that came before but were significantly more comfortable when wearing them all day long. For a short while at the end of the RadioShack brand, Koss sold these as the Koss PRO35A before renaming them the Koss KTX Pro1. I have owned and loved all of these variants. They last a really long time if you take care of them and when the foam pads wear out it's easy to replace them with fresh pads that Koss still sells in 3-pair packs.

I'm sorry, but the moment you said that Koss was "off-brand" I became a bit repulsed. Sure, Koss doesn't always produce quality products, but the ones that are have usually become iconic to many people across the nation, I mean, they did invent the stereophones after all. All the way back in 1958. Calling these headphones "cheap" is also a bit unfair, considering these are "budget" headphones, and you should be glad that you get some good sound from something as low priced as this product.

Bought my first pair of Koss headphones back in 1990 and to this date I still haven't heard a better pair. The bass is unreal it sounds like you are in a car booming especially if you can get a snug fit.If you are a basshead and you know what to look for as far as specs then these are the headphones for you.

Kiss is by no means an off brand. They are not appreciated for what they are. They invented the analog and binaural headphone. They made the first headphone that didn't require an amp or external power.

This is a review done by someone who is not familiar with this brand. These same headphone were once sold with RadioShack branding on them. They were not new when this review was made... I remember having these headphones in 2004 when they cost $50 from RadioShack. Great brand and has been for decades. Side note: the portapro hasn't changed its design since 1984 and people still buy them till this day.

Dude: You kept referring to the Koss KTX phones as being "cheap." To me, cheap means poorly-made; don't waste your money. Then, you turn around and talk about how great they sound. Just so you know, Koss has been producing quality headphones since 1947; you gotta assume they must be doing something right. It's not good to judge something only based on what it costs. More expensive doesn't necessarily mean higher quality. I have a pair of the Koss KTX's; they are great little headphones. I would highly recommend them.

I agree that these headphones are better than most expensive headphones. I will have to disagree also. Koss has been making cheap products for awhile. Not to say that they don't produce a few quality products, but there's no consistency in their production. I wouldn't put them in the class with a name brand product because the quality of their products is inconsistent. Nearly all of their products are made of cheap plastic and are visually unappealing. The KTX's don't stand out when worn, in fact, they can actually cheapen the look of your outfit when compared to some of today's more sleek looking headphones. They sound incredible, there's no denying it but they are in appearance and outer build, cheap. Of course the old saying, "It's what's inside that counts," couldn't be a more appropriate statement. Koss stuck with what counts in the internal build of these headphones, but you absolutely can't tell that just by looking at them. The price is not what makes the headphones cheap, but the build quality. I agree totally with you and couldn't recommend these headphones more. I actually tried to give a pair to one of my friends (a professional musician) and he admitted that the sound was awesome but he also said that they looked like I bought them from the dollar store. I try to be honest in all of my reviews, and my honest opinion is that these headphones are inexpensive, cheap, and sound absolutely amazing, far better than most popular headphones out there. I didn't mean to come off so strong though, I really do love these headphones. Thanks for the feedback, I may redo this video and explain myself better! Thanks again my friend :)

Thanks for your response. I guess when we're talking about headphones, the best way to go is just put them on, and listen to what they have to offer. Let our ears decide, not our eyes.

I didn't mean to offend you, if I did sorry. I'm just stating that when most people think of name brand headphones, they think Beats, Bose, Sony, Monster, Sennheiser, and even brands like Apple and Samsung....but not Koss. That isn't to say that these headphones aren't as good (or even better), it's just to say that most people don't recognize them as a name brand. For the record, I think the headphones are some of the best and lightyears ahead of the competition in terms of sound quality and price.

Good headphones but the ear pads wear out in less than a year. I bought replacement pads but how do you install them? I pulled the remains of the old ones out but its not obvious how to remove the retainer ring to install the new ones.

I really can't help but think that you've never had any other Koss headphones if you're calling them "offbrand"... etc in your video and comments. You mentioned brands that people think of when headphones are mentioned... and yeah, Beats might come to mind for me, and then I laugh to myself about how bad they are... but then I feel sorry for people that buy them thinking that is what high end audio is supposed to sound like. Personally when I think of quality headphones, the following brands come to mind: Grado, Koss, AKG, Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic. My first "real" headphones were Koss HV/1A, this is after I had some Sonys that were all boom and not much else. I moved along through a few different sets (more Koss as well, loved them all), including Grado 325s... and would still be there if not for my husband (and that's all I want to say about that because it's depressing), because they were some of the best can's I've ever heard... anywhere... ever, and I was friends with the owner of a high end audio shop so I heard more than my fair share of headphones. I'm currently running Koss PortaPros, because they're amazing and my son is begging for a pair for himself because he loves the sound.

+Criterion515 I concur with you and it's sad, but today when people think of high-end products, Koss is not a name that comes to mind. It's unfortunate because people are missing out on some of the greatest headphones you can buy and at an amazing price! Koss is a name often forgotten because it's a brand that does actually make some low-end products. You can find a barrage of their lesser quality headphones at dollar stores, and the build quality on those is subpar. That is what ruins the brand name. And to be perfectly honest, the look of their headphones are not the most eye catching either. They look somewhat cheap with their plastic build, and people today want the sleek, futuristic, high-profile looking devices, which is why Beats and Monster are making a killing selling their headsets. I am in no way saying that Koss is not a remarkable brand, because I am in love with my KTX Pro 1, but I can assure you that no one has ever complimented me on how cool they look. I have to offer to let people listen to my headphones and ONLY then are then sold LOL! I am however sorry if I misrepresented the brand and I want you to know that I have full confidence that Koss is one of the best headphone makers out there. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and I'm glad that you love the PortaPros! Those headphones are very attractive and sound phenomenal! Happy New Year's my friend!

@@xpcornerph1735 the RadioShack Optimus PRO35 (not the PRO35A) were black with the same metal and leatherette headband as the RadioShack Optimus PRO25 that came before it. The PRO35 was then replaced by the RadioShack Optimus PRO35A, which was identical to the (post-RadioShack) Koss PRO35A, which Koss later renamed to the Koss KTX PRO1. All of these headphones used the same neodymium drivers with titanium-layered diaphragms, that's why they sound so good
