Is there a budgeting app that has settings to ping your phone when a transaction hits whichever account was used, asking you to confirm the budget category it should go in?
@rebeccariordon4627 ай бұрын
depends what you mean by ping, but YNAB will prompt you to categorize every transaction that and approve every transaction as they come in

Simplifi has lots of notification options you can turn on for email/text. They also let you choose categories to set as a watch list. Monarch lets you set it so you can choose what transactions you need to review to categorize. Or you can let them automatically categorize. EveryDollar forces you to review every single one

@BrittanyFlammer2 ай бұрын
Majority of the apps/websites are on a subscription plan. Which I hate!! I liked it a lot more when you could make a one time purchase and have it for life. No longer. EveryDollar has a completely free version you can use on your computer. It doesn't link to your accounts and it has a simple budget that's pretty easy to follow. Most of the apps let you manually enter transactions and don't require you to link your accounts. BUT, they pretty much all require a subscription fee.

Which app would you suggest for self-employed individuals?
@BrittanyFlammer3 ай бұрын
That depends...are you asking as a budgeting app for your business or as a budgeting app for your personal life? Any of them would work for your business budget and any of them could work with your personal budget. Self employment is a little trickier because you don't know exactly what your take home pay is going to be every month. If you like spreadsheets Tiller is great because you can have up to 5 budgets (so you could have a personal budget and business budget). If you are just trying to do a personal budget, then Monarch is probably the best because they let you do an annual budget (you can map out months you might know you make more/less money). They also show you your averages for the past 3 months.

YNAB is a little better because it is focusing on the money that's been deposited into your account, not projecting what you think you will make. BUT, you can technically use any of them with inconsistent income... it's just a little more complicated. I would say Monarch is the next best with inconsistent income, but it's not free. EveryDollar is the only one that is completely free and would work for budgeting.

curious how you manage expenses and credit card related to travel/work?
@BrittanyFlammer9 ай бұрын
Sure. For work, I keep everything completely separate. Separate bank accounts and separate cards. I personally use a spreadsheet to track all of my income/expenses and figure out what my 'take home pay' is from my work. Most of these budgeting apps only allow you to create 1 budget intended for personal use. If you wanted a separate budget for your business you'd have to 'buy' another membership. Tiller is the exception - it lets you create 5 budgets. For travel -we have a sinking fund for our travel. We set money aside each month, then when we go on a trip we use the money out of that sinking fund. We did try out a travel credit card this past year. It has been a positive experience because we got a huge bonus. But, we probably won't continue to use the card next year (the fee isn't worth it to us). I hope that helps.
