The huge problem with Mint is that you can't create savings categories. If I want to save for a car and a gaming PC, and a house, I have to create actual savings accounts at my bank to be able to track it. This downside was a huge miss in this review.

Are you aware of any apps that can integrate apple pay (not apple card cuz we dont have that too ) or maybe allows uploading my bank statement then converts it into transactions in the app? Also do any of these apps allow exporting my data or budget plan?

If I could suggest one thing to improve your videos, please refrain from tapping or hitting your desk while you're recording. The sound was really prominent when I was listening on my headphones (and I often listen to YT in the background while I'm working) so it is being picked up by your mic more than you may realize! @@ryanmcgregorr It's usually a symptom of having your mic on the same surface you're leaning on, not so much the bangs themselves being picked up, but the sympathetic vibrations it sends into the mic set up. A lot of streamers will have the mic on a separate table, or clipped onto the desk. This is actually why Joe Rogan or other comedian podcasts have the mic on a boom arm, because you can bang the table and the vibration is muffled before it reaches the mic. Just a thought!

Ryan, thank you for the video and I have one question I can’t seem to find an answer to anywhere… and I apologize in advance for what will be a long comment because I’m not quite sure how else to explain this: I have been using the same Excel spreadsheet for my personal budgeting for about 12 years now, and it’s just so time consuming. I’ve been looking for an app that is simple and intuitive, But I still have yet to find one that does one particular thing that my spreadsheet does…. I have built-in what I could only call a “projection“ calculation… Basically, at the end of each column in my spreadsheet (each column is Separated by month), the last field shows what I am projected to have left over at the end of the month. When I start the new month, I have a field that “rolls over“ that amount left over from the previous month… I can click and drag the spreadsheet to the right side of the screen and project literally into infinity what kind of money I am projected to have (based on current income, bills, spending)… Of course, I don’t need to go that far into the future, but this is very helpful for me when I’m trying to make certain goals by the end of the year or even a few years in advance. Are there any apps that do this that you know of? Thank you!
@BobBridgesbob
@BobBridgesbob Жыл бұрын
I started using YNAB earlier this year and it does have this feature and I love it. If you look back at the video, you will see the categories that have the "green bubbles." That means that you have money available to spend in that category. So say for example you allocate $400 per month for groceries. As your transactions are entered and categorized as groceries, that amount will go down. But at the end of the month, you might have only spent $350 on groceries. So you will see $50 still in green for your groceries category. And as you roll over to the next month, that $50 will carry over to that same category for the next month. It's just automatic, you don't have to do anything to make this happen. OR you could take that $50 at the end of the month and reallocate it to somewhere else in your budget that was short. I really love this feature of YNAB. The other feature that I love is to be able to allocate money out in the future. So, like when I bet my bonus at work every year, I allocate that money out in the future for expenditures such as my mortgage, vacations savings, emergency fund, etc, etc. I really like Mint too and have had it for years, but I found the budgeting feature pretty confusing. So that's why I stared using YNAB earlier this year. I still my Mint account active and go back to it from time to time. I do like the reporting in Mint a lot too. But it doesn't have that rollover feature you asked about and you can't create savings categories (Emergency Fund, Vacation, Down Payment for new car, etc) without actually having a new physical account for each one. I see that as a big miss on Mint's part.

@@zazzlezzz nahh. Especially in the topic of finances there are a lot of location exclusive resources, apps and rules. Me from the UK it's fairly hard for me to find appropriate managing personal finance videos if I don't type "(finance topic) UK", because a large amount of them only apply to US and/or Canadian audiences regarding the resources the video provide

I've been hearing a lot lately about Simplifi. Would love to hear your thoughts on Simplifi as it seems to be getting more and more popular and gaining traction. Have you tried it yet?

Hi Bob, apologies for the late comment. I have checked out Simplifi, and while it does offer some nice features, I can't rationalize paying $5.99 a month or $47.99 annually. Simplifi doesn't offer much of a different experience from free platforms like Mint. YNAB on the other hand offers a completely different experience, which I could rationalize paying for. Thanks for watching!

I just tried to link my (major) bank account in Mint and got an error message. I did this in Truebill in seconds. I’m trying to compare the 2 but honestly not feeling so great about Mint with this experience.

@@ryanmcgregorr well, it's an affordable (+-35€) perpetual licence of a desktop software that comes with a mobile light version for the phone that synchronizes with the desktop version. The mobile app for the moment, and i've been using since 2018 comes free with the buying of the software. You can try the desktop software for 1 month at full capacity and after 1 month with some limitations. About the software itself one can import bank statements directly to the software without giving any bank permissions to the app. Then you can create accounts, categorize, generate reports making a budget and keeping track. It's particularly effective for synchronizing a family budget as once you enter an expense it synchronizes with other mobile app and desktop on the same user profile. At the end of the year, month, week i keep track of every expense so every single Euro is well spent or well saved. For you as an youtuber there's an affiliate program at least on the Portuguese version, bottom page, under Social, "seja afiliado". For Cons i would say the mobile app is very limited, lack of development and updates, and the way the software works one can have multiple operations but have to be of the same type. Cannot have Income and expenses on the same transaction. This software made an huge difference on my financial education but don't take my words on it. This is just my personal opinion not financial advice, what works for me may not work for others. Cheers
