Hi, I use the GFX50R in much the same way. I recommend the PC-Nikkor 35/2.8 as another alternative to the TS Canon lenses - it's a LOT cheaper if anyone already does not own the Canon TS lenses, and works with a dumb adapter as the Nikkor is fully manual. The PC-Nikkor 35/2.8 is a very sharp and clean lens that easily matches the resolution of the sensor, and thanks to a big imaging circle it does not need cropping. Wider focal length lenses (below 50mm) are generally a problem for the GFX, as they tend to have small image circles, and cannot be used except in the GFX 35mm Crop mode. the PC-Nikkor is an exception. I also enjoy the Series E 100/2.8 as a portrait lens, it's very small and light, and recently picked up a Nikkor-H 85/1.8 for $35 in a lucky coincidence.

I also have the 50r for the same reason, using vintage M42, OM, C/Y, FD, and a lot of Nikon F lenses. One of my favourites to use is an old Canon FD 55mm f1.2. If you set the 50r to square format and the film simulation to Acros, shooting at f1.2 gives a really unique look Also, if you still have the 50r but no GF lenses, the 35-70mm is excellent and a cheap entry to GF lenses. I got mine brand new for €499 when Fuji occasionally do their sales, and for that price it's a steal.

It’s a great camera, however I went for a Leica SL (Type 601) for vintage lenses. I think the FUJI has the edge when it comes to the sensor, but the Leica has a much better EVF and build quality. Most strangely the unloved Leica is cheaper! Lots of interesting options.

I have an inventory of vintage Nikon F, Pentax M42, and Leica M full-frame lenses. Most are manual focus prime lenses. I would like to get adapters to attach my vintage lenses to a Fuji medium format digital camera. Is there a significant difference in the way the different Fuji medium format digital cameras handle vintage full-frame lenses? I am especially concerned on how well they will handle my widest wide-angle lens (14mm f/2.8 Nikkor D) and my most expensive Leica lens (21mm f/1.4 Summilux).

May I ask…when using different focal length lenses via adapter, is there a setting so the viewfinder adjust to that focal length. Apologies if you mentioned this in the video.
@matejphoto
@matejphoto Жыл бұрын
The GFX 50R does not have optical viewfinder. So in the viewfinder you see what the sensor sees. If you have a lens that really only covers 35mm film (e.g. 36mm x 24mm sensor size) then there is a setting for that. The 50R is really a very versatile camera.

@@matejphoto Thank you very much for your reply! I ordered a used 50R...that I hope to make my dedicated "digital XPAN". I understand that the viewfinder and screen both display the 65:24 aspect ratio, when chosen.

What about using an xpro2 or xpor3 plus some focal reducer that adapts to some old vantage lens, would that be a similar solution to this? :)
@FuyangLiu
@FuyangLiu 2 жыл бұрын
For now, I have an xpro2 with a simple adaptor to connect to old Nikon 20mm (as I like the 28mm full-frame equivalent feeling). But there seems no Nikon F or Canon FD to Fuji X focal reducer (booster) to allow me to use a 28mm lens on it directly. Otherwise, the whole package could be even smaller and I could get like one step brighter image :P
@matejphoto
@matejphoto 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that would work but the focal reducer adapters sometimes don't work with older lenses because the lens elements in the adapter bumps into elements in the lenses.
@FuyangLiu
@FuyangLiu 2 жыл бұрын
@@matejphoto That's true, and that is exactly what I encountered when using Canon FD lenses with a reducer to Sony E. Not sure if there is any reducers for Fuji yet...

Why not use Hasselblad V lenses instead? You can't beat Zeiss glass.
@matejphoto
@matejphoto Жыл бұрын
Short answer: I don't own any V lenses. Long answer (just my opinion, could be completely wrong): I think the V lenses will give you good quality but it won't have the "funk" factor. Since they were designed for full 6x6 format, the apertures are not that bright. For top sharpness and optical quality I am building out a Canon R system. For me this is for the vingate/unusual look. But I can see people being super happy with using V lenses on the 50R. But wide lenses will be an issue.

I know I’m quite late but I pretty much only use my current camera for photography of cities and landscapes/sunsets and etc.. I don’t shoot portraits so would this be a good camera for me or should I go with something else?
@dxps26

With the GFX you'll have a challenge finding wider lenses to accommodate city/land scapes - see my comment above regarding the PC-Nikkor 35/2.8 - it's one of the lenses you can easily use on the GFX. Unless of course you are buying Fuji GFX lenses, which start at 23mm. They are expensive but almost universally rated as the best money can buy for medium format.

@@dxps26 Would you recommend this camera over a Fuji x-t4 or Sony a7iv?
@dxps26
@dxps26 2 жыл бұрын
@@cptbutterbeard9779 In reality all 3 cameras are in different sensor classes altogether (APS-c/Full-Frame/Medium format) so doing a direct comparison is not fair. There's a few things to consider - 1. do you like the Sony 'look' of how it renders colors (saturated) and details (very clean) or do you have a more 'film' like look in mind? 2. how much time do you want to spend in post-processing to get images to look exactly how you want? 3. are you going to print your work to large sizes (20+ inches) 4. Lens choices matter - what focal lengths do you see yourself using? What will a 10mm or 24mm lens in each system cost you? is a Tilt-shift Lens available or easy to adapt? How good are the telephotos/Zooms in price/performance? The Sony A7Riv is a very good camera, it's technical prowess is second to none. the E-mount is also home to a huge number of lenses, both Native and adapted. The XT-4 is much cheaper, lighter, easier to travel with and has the advantage of a good number of excellent, affordable X-mount lenses from Fuji, plus easy adaptability to old manual lenses The GFX is Big and Expensive - but it produces absolutely incredible images and a trait it shares with the XT4 is the JPEG engine Fuji has - I don't even bother editing RAW anymore because it's able to produce the results I want in-camera.

07:08 Why do you wish that the LCD flipped out? You don’t tell us. This is one of the reasons I bought the 50R, as flippy flappy pull out screens are slow, obtrusive and conspicuous. This screen on the 50R is perfect.

For when I want to shoot vertical shots from lower/higher angle. But you have a good point about how it looks. But when I use the 50R, the subject is very aware of me anyway (or I am taking a picture of a landscape).

$2000 is about the going rate for a lightly used one both in the USA and Switzerland. If you are in the US, check fredmiranda.com buy and sell forum and you will see that about $2000 is a going rate. You might have to be patient for one to come up for sale. Then then is or course ebay or local sellers (particularly if you are in a big city).
