Thanks for the video. I am using the Action 4 on the helmet and a X4 on the front to get a bit more versitility. What I like to do is use one of the 32bit float recordre for my microphone (not use the recorder as the microphone). Instead of connecting it to the camera just attach it to the back of the helmet with a magnet or velcro or something. Just seems to have not only 32bit float but better pre-amps for theaudio. One thing I didn't see mentioned that I think is important to share is by using the mic adapter on this camera it no longer supports USB data so you have to pull your Micro SD card to copy the files off. This is what I assume based on my research could you confirm? That is a big deal I hate dealing with micro cards. I was really on the fence with the remote, it was less the cost and more the functionality that stopped me. I think I'll just continue to use my phone if needed. Something Insta360 does that DJI needs to do is allow using the GPS data when you edit your footage on your PC. Forcing usage of the phone app is a huge let down for a content creator that cares about quality and efficentcy. I found a way to work around this, but its a paid software. If I find a free way to do it, I'll be sure to share the knowledge and make a video about it.

So the reason I added sugru mainly was to secure the adapter as I noticed with a little pressure pushing down from top it unhinges and won’t work. So more to secure really

Hi Nick I’m surprised you’re bypassing the use of the DJI Mic 2 transmitter so freely. In effect it is a wired mic set up, as it records a backup. That audio via the DJI lav mic you’ve got should sound as good as the adapter. There may be more chance of interference or connection issues with the adapter even with the Sugru around it. If you haven’t, could you give it a go and provide test clip with the mic 2 transmitter and lav mic set up? Cheers, Len.

Did I miss it or did you explain how you record the engine sound? I’ve recorded a few bike tours with a GoPro but since upgrading to the GoPro Hero 10 a couple years ago the camera has been hit or miss with recording sound and I lost interest and stopped recording my rides due to then unreliability of the GoPro. I could be tempted to use a DJi camera as I’ve used the first generation handheld unit in the past and it was great. I’ve also used an Insta360 but that camera is more suited to snowboarding and skiing.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and preferences so generously, Nick! I enjoyed this video just as much as your other, more motorcycle focused material. Now, if memory serves me well, I do believe you too are a Triumphista. Do you by any chance also have the Triumph Connectivity Module fitted to any of your motorcycles? And more interestingly; if you do, can you say anything about the compatibility with the Action 4 cameras? Triumph themselves mention GoPro very briefly in their Connectivity Module prints, but I get the impression they do so more as an example than as an explicit commitment. I did notice your mentions of the DJI remote in this video, which may indirectly answer my question, but since I am a hopeless optimist I just have to ask anyway 😊

Hi and thanks 🙏 so triumph system only works as far as I am aware on go pro. I do not use the triumph connect at all as had issues trying to connect and failed so don’t use it sorry. Battery on remote is only 2 hrs though due to gps function so I hope DJI enable us a firmware so we can switch that off to enable longer life.

Great info Nick, thanks. I'm new to vlogging and have bought 2x Action 4's and the DJI wireless mic (one in my helmet and one in my wife's), but I like the sound you are getting from the lav mic much more, so I might try that instead. I've also got the same remote, and it works fine as long as the cameras don't go to standby when I have stopped recording, as it will not wake them up again if using it to control multiple cameras. I have contacted the DJI forum to see if this can be changed in a future firmware update. How do you get over that problem?

That was awesome. I've been searching for some info on this adapter, as I was considering the DJI Wireless Mic2, or this. I wanted to hear how the 3.5mm adapter sounded - it sounded great. I also wanted to see if the 'waterproofing' issue could be solved. Question - I've heard you can't output the footage through the USB adapter and that it is for power only. Is this true? Are you getting your footage straight off the card? OR using the USBC out on the adapter? Please let me know, if you have time, as it is a major concern before pulling the trigger on the adapter, as opposed to the Mic2. VERY BEST REGARDS, CAM FROM NZ 😄👍
