Nice vid today, Brendan and Jodie! Congrats on your new wheels! My dream car for photography is an Audi Q7. We rented one last summer to take everyone in the family on a Western States trip through Utah, Wyoming and Montana, to Yellowstone, Teton N.P.'s. The funnest thing we did with it was get up early in Wendover and drive out to the Bonneville Speedway before sunrise, to catch it coming up over the east end of the Salt Flats. One of the coolest things we've ever done as a family, and as a photographer. I took my P4P drone along with my Z6 and got awesome footage and images, too! However, now I want to get my Porsche 951 (944 turbo) fixed up to use as my photography car. It has a great hatchback area that is not too deep, so it doesn't strain my back when pulling stuff out of it. So my dream is to get that car going again real soon. Plus, it's a blast to drive, which is one of my favorite things to do, too! Hey, sorry I haven't been able to follow your videos as of late, but I was sick and in the hospital with a slight stroke, but I am doing better now. So did you get married already? I remember the engagement video, and that was great! The "we" sort of reminded me of married life so... I am married to a great woman for 20+ years now. Still going strong! Good luck to you both! You make a great couple! -Michael

Only down side of the soft tops is security. Very easy to have stuff taken out of the back. A large lockable box bolted to the floor in the back might help. Welcome back to the reality many of us all ready live in. A Car, wife, mortgage. Not necessarily in that order. Thanks for sharing again Brendan. And Congratulations.

Oh yeh - I got a Defender 90 last year (newer TDCi, not a TD5, and mines was a hard top - same colour though). Defender 90 will do all you want and more, and it's exactly as you described it - you dont want to drive fast cos it's a fun drive! Soft top as well - looks awesome with and without the canvas - good choice! Only thing I would say for me is I just wish it was a *little* bit bigger! it is SO modable - engine remap, suspension, roof tent, seats in the back maybe (not sure how legal that is in Portugal if it's not already fitted with them?? Not legal in the UK). Perfect photographers car indeed! They're back to basics cars (no air con, no ABS, no airbags, etc), but sometimes that's what you need - they're classics and it'll last you forever! Enjoy!

I owned my first car in my early 20s. I had it for less than week. It was a lemon (bought if from some guy who sold cars out of his yard). The engine basically caught on fire. I have not attempted to own a car since. Luckily, I haven't needed to. Living in a metro area like I do now means that I don't really need one. Congrats to you and Jodie on owning your first vehicle. I've owned my 1994 Land Rover Defender 110 300tdi for 10 years, I live in the UK and love the Defender, it's a go anywhere vehicle, but, I will stress that being a utility and heavy duty vehicle and taking it's age into consideration things will break and things will need to be replaced as with any old vehicle, don't be too worried about this though, the old Defenders are a piece of cake to work on and the joy of repairing your own vehicle can only be described as thorough enjoyment, get your hands dirty don't be afraid of it and that landy will last beyond a lifetime. You have made a good choice one life live it. And a little history did you know that the defender's predecessor was used by the Australian army in the Vietnam War?

I mentioned before, but I now ride a pandemic year Northern Cycle Industries, Norco VFR (very fast ride) road bike to trail heads to hike in and out for wildlife photography. I'm a commuter, not a vehicle owner, and right now staying off the buses, subways, and streetcars due to the pandemic issue. Besides it's fun to ride a speedy road bike in and around Toronto. Extra chuffed my Norco cycle is built in Coquitlam, BC and it's got a Maple Leaf on the back! 100% Canadian woo hoo!

The thing about land rovers is that they are slow, they rust, the engineering is primeval & who doesn't want one? (until you see the fuel consumption that is.) I remember driving a LWB Landy (that's the correct slang for one BTW) many years ago with a big heavy four wheel trailer and when it got over 45mph it was just terrifying, inadequate brakes, vague woolly steering and rock hard suspension. Yours actually looks as though it's never been on rough ground. Congratulations, I'm sure you'll love it.

Nice choice. Great colour, but it'll never be that shiny again. I bet the dealership has a valet just to polish up the cars for sale. Buying your first car is exciting. I remember my first car. I was slightly tempted recently by a Defender 90, but I don't really have a need for the off-road capabilities. I second/third the idea of a savings account for car expenses. Put money aside every month to cover repairs, wear and tear (tyres on that LR will be pricey) tax and insurance. I have had my own car since I was 20 and wish I'd done this from the start, it takes the sting out of unexpected repair bills.

@MrCareer7074 жыл бұрын
Reliability only depends on how much time the owner is willing to spend on maintenance, if it's maintained Reliability won't be an issue, I've owned my Defender for 10 years, it's maintained and looked after, in that 10 years its only ever broke down once and that was 3 days after I purchased it due to the clutch fork giving up, wear and tear affects every single car built, if a part needs replacing just replace it.
