Thank you. I am still using this method and no complaints so far.

yeah, thats good. how thick is it?
@FlyBeee Жыл бұрын
The mat is about a quarter of inch thick. It is made up of vinyl strands that are interlocked so it sort of makes this cushion that helps protect against hail that I have received in the last three years. If you get larget sized hail in your area, may want to get the rubber pad to go under the mat. I found one in large size and is listed in description of this video.

500 IQ bro❤ For larger hail, I was thinking of Buying a Thick Comforter from Goodwill
@FlyBeee Жыл бұрын
Thank you! :) I appreciate the kind comment. Very good point about large hail - it is only a matter of time when it happens where I live. I too have considered options including buying a used comforter or rug, however I have leaned more towards using a large Yoga mat like this one (amzn.to/3oWzpJl). It fits the 4-point criteria I discuss in video to make it easy to deploy and wrap up - and to layer under the existing cover I have. This is not yet tested in large hail so can't comment on the results yet but in theory it checks off all key points. In terms of cost, a couple of these + this RV mat is still less than half my insurance deductible! lol

@@FlyBeee yoga mat is a great idea!! Or even those foam puzzle pads used at kindergartens. I just have to find some that are not puzzle shaped. Thanks for the help bro and I wish you can keep your car safe. If your car does get hit, wait 5-6 months because that’s when the prices drop. My insurance paid me $4k to fix it, I waited till October and only paid $1.8k.

Does it scratch the paint? This could well be genius. I'm looking for a 12'x'18' one

Thank you. I live in south and we get hail quite often and going through insurance to fix damaged vehicle is hassle so I've looked for hail protection methods for many years (including this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2G0lZmvfK55frs , lol). The four criteria I show in this video and using the vinyl mat has turned out to be the winning solution for now - as least for me. Good Q about paint. From counter 5:40 of this video you can see how paint looks - this is after using this method frequently for almost three years but the paint on my vehicle is not scratched (or at least I can't see any scratches). I unfold this mat (counter 2:10) and then fold it back when the whole thing is still on my car. Makes it easier to deploy and unwrap anywhere I am at. The mat is made of vinyl stands knitted together - this criss-cross knitting creates a sort of cushion that helps absorb the impact of hail but due to holes in knitted mat the dust in dust-storm passes through and deposits on the vehicle. If you get dust storm followed by rain/hail , unfold the mat while it is still on vehicle and don't drag it on vehicle to protect paint. I hope this helps. Best wishes!

I would assume if it’s raining that would prevent deeper dry scratches. Not saying it wouldn’t scratch but possibly not noticeable from a distance

Thank you. .. I tested it for two years and it has worked pretty good for me. There is storm system active today over in my area and am about to put this on my car. I have listed the mat and bungee cords in description of video - But If you need this in a hurry check your local Walmart - some stores carry it. The bungee cords you can get from any hardware store. Good luck!

Looks like the prices have shot up recently - they typically do over summer months but this is quite a large increase. Walmart and many other retailers are out of stock for this mat. BUT, northern tool shows inventory at old prices! check them out. (northernTool.com) Best wishes

I have used it personally for more than two years and the video is of actual hail storm with the size of hail you see in video. I have had no issues. the vinyl mat is made of vinyl strings intertwined which creates a bit of cushioning which absorbs impact from the size of hail seen in video. For large baseball size hail it would not work. This is my go to setup I still use today during spring storms.

I don't know if you tried it and it did not work, or after watching the video you feel like there is no way it will work. I have used this continuously for the last three years and will likely use it tonight also as my area is under severe hail threat. Understood that for very large hail it will not work, but in hail storms in last three years it has worked.
